Ideas for ILX

The purpose of new threads is to avoid unloadably long threads

but the purpose of cars is to avoid long walks, and yet we all sit still within them together on the way to work all the same

btw, this is closely related to the thread about how the mods did 9/11 (obviously true, it's more about why they did it)

We used to have One Thread, it was called Site New Posts and only mods could see it. It was technically problematic - it’s hard to do the security thing and make sure only 77 members see 77 posts on there. I loved it though, it’s a great idea.

Pretty sure not reading the thread before you post would not be an innovation for a significant number of ilxors

ILX should have a virtual Tip Jar, because tipping should be encouraged whenever a service is rendered. Then each registered user could have a running total of how much they've tipped ILX, just like each of us has a total of how many posts we've made.

i used to browse by board, then i moved to site new answers, and now i basically just sift through my neverending series of bookmarks. it's amazing, and tbh i'd do it for far less than the $35/hour i'm getting paid right now

I would be okay w/ letting some bookmarks fester at the bottom of a list, but arranged as they are I have some kind of disorder which compels me to keep clearing them out

let's just fire up mIRC and create a DALnet chat room.

also change who the AOPs are each day, and every time someone chats about the secret forbidden topic, they're permabanned for the day.

Is there a publicly accessible API? If people really want to test what it would be like, I bet it wouldn't be hard to build a Discord bot that just relays posts into a discord channel in near-real time. Probably wouldn't have functionality to post back to the website, but the bot could include the link to the thread so if you want to reply in-thread, you can click on it and post. Otherwise, if you would like to just comment in the "single thread only", you can just chat in Discord as the posts roll by.
