I could be wrong, but I think you're overestimating how strongly people feel about that record. I'd be really surprised if it makes the top 10, but also maybe top 15?
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:27 (seven years ago)
i would rather see robyn place top ten in your poll tbh friedrich neechy
― goats eat grandma (NickB), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:28 (seven years ago)
if Robyn really had 30+ voters she'd be like top 3 but i don't think she'll get that many
― ufo, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:29 (seven years ago)
Cheers for that nick!
― Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:30 (seven years ago)
lol I meant 30+ in age
it's not quite as good but "where we come from" which is ALSO from 2018 is definitely worth listening to as well.
Listening now. The looping and editing seems more foregrounded on this one, not quite as seamless.
― jmm, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:30 (seven years ago)
oh lol xp
― ufo, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:30 (seven years ago)
Sorry I was busy, countdown will resume in about 10 minutes.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:31 (seven years ago)
I think Janelle Monae will win actually . Just a hunch.
― Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:32 (seven years ago)
she won't
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:32 (seven years ago)
i'm a gonna win
― ciderpress, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:33 (seven years ago)
i have a feeling we're gonna party like it's 1975
― simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:34 (seven years ago)
being on the west coast, I appreciate this delay
― octobeard, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:34 (seven years ago)
they should call it the 1976 when you're there
― ciderpress, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:35 (seven years ago)
I tell you one thing, I've got no idea what will win metal poll.
― Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:36 (seven years ago)
I think we only have 9 ballots but I haven't seen them
1975 = 5 x 5 x 79, therefore numerologically they have either placed 5th or 79th
― imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:38 (seven years ago)
every vote for Autechre should be assigned 4x the points, if this poll was truly fair

Daphne and Celeste
Cameron Cook: " By working with Daphne & Celeste’s notoriety and, it turns out, actual charm, Max Tundra is able to project his idea of what pop should sound like in 2018 onto an essentially blank slate. Instead of a tired pastiche, the three musicians have created one of the most weirdly compelling pop collaborations in recent memory."
Tim Sendra: "Hooking up with D&C proved a genius move by Jacobs, and the same is true for D&C. It's a surprising and decidedly odd combination that works amazingly well, like olive oil and ice cream. Daphne & Celeste may not save the world, but a listen to this album is sure to make the world a better place for about 45 minutes or so, and sometimes that's enough."
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:46 (seven years ago)
AHAHAHA *cackle intensifies*
― imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:46 (seven years ago)
And here's me thinking there'd be no surprises
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:46 (seven years ago)
this is the fake joke, right?
― Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:47 (seven years ago)

My number 3. Max Tundra, Daphne & Celeste forever
― imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:47 (seven years ago)
a pleasing listen but i didnt go back to too often
― nxd, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:48 (seven years ago)
I'll add that few people get how to make the sort of melodic, breakneck pop I love better than Tundra, he's sort of a genius and this is sort of his masterpiece
― imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:49 (seven years ago)
I knew it! Good album.
― kitchen person, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:50 (seven years ago)
ok fine i'll listen to this album, jeez
― simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:50 (seven years ago)
i wanted to love the idea of 'max tundra makes a Pop album' but i only liked it and didn't feel the need to revisit it much. cool enough to see it place though
― ufo, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:52 (seven years ago)
if I'd ranked this would've been #1
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:53 (seven years ago)
Is this how you apologize to LJ after putting Baby Shark in the tracks poll, no way did 13 people vote for this
― frogbs, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:54 (seven years ago)
― breastcrawl, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:54 (seven years ago)
13 people voted for it because it's good and they liked it
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:55 (seven years ago)
lol i think i voted for this yw lj
― Mordy, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:56 (seven years ago)
I totally called this as placing 20th! It is about as infectious and kitsch as it could be and there are a thousand wonderful synth hooks. A.L.T.O, Taking Notes and Somg to a Succulent are highlights.
― tangenttangent, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:56 (seven years ago)
I realised this would place when I looked at the track ballots. A euphoric feeling
― imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:56 (seven years ago)
Song...phone posting
― tangenttangent, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:57 (seven years ago)
Maybe I'll write-in Simmy in the metal poll...
― jmm, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:57 (seven years ago)

Tracey Thorn
Dave Simpson: "The lyrical mix of emotion and wisdom is matched by the elegant dignity of the soundtrack, and producer Ewan Pearson places Thorn in the lineage of classy electronic torch singers from Alison Moyet to Marc Almond."
Rob Sheffield: "In her excellent new solo album, with the droll title Record, the Everything But the Girl chanteuse tells tales of mid-life angst with the same wry wit she's had in her voice since she was a sullen Brit-punk kid."

― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:01 (seven years ago)
Yay for Tracey in the top 20!
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:03 (seven years ago)
a delightful, proper album that gathers detail and momentum as it goes. also one of the ilmiest albums i've ever heard
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:11 (seven years ago)
i have been putting off listening to the daphne and celeste all year and i'm sorry!!!
Totally deserved placement for Tracey Thorn. Record is one the best albums of her career for me. Up there with Walking Wounded, A Distant Shore and Out Of The Woods.
― kitchen person, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:13 (seven years ago)
I never got round to the D&C album. I liked the first Max Tundra single but wasn't blown away, is there a notable step up? (I also liked their early bratty stuff if that has any bearing on matters.)
