For me, that's like a picture of Simon and Garfunkel back together. Or Lennon & McCartney... er, possibly.

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 03:49 (eight years ago) Permalink

I was all set to say this video is about how great a Daphne & Celeste world would be. But the world has already been D & C-ified: costumes made out of butcher paper; tattoos (?) that resemble Kim Fowley's on the cover of Snake Document Masquerade; rejects from the cast of Forbidden Zone. And where the hell exactly is the elevator?

Lennon & McCartney...

I remember how I used to run home from school as fast as I could, put MTV on, and pray to god that they'd stick this on so I could sneak in a quick jerk before anyone else got home. I was eleven years old. Fond memories.

seriously not doing your ears' reputations as not being made of cloth much good here guys. pomplamoose?

u have wiked together fiords (imago), Sunday, 29 March 2015 20:41 (two years ago) Permalink

Thought it sounded more like a downtempo track from the new Madge album tbh.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 29 March 2015 20:44 (two years ago) Permalink

as much as it pains me to say it, my opinion of this is much closer to imago's than "this might as well be pomplamoose" or "it's awful"

rather surprising in a very good way actually. never thought i'd see them do music together again, much less that they'd come back with something this good.

idk who max tundra is but perhaps i should? the production is memorable and beautifully detailed

yep, this is the kind of song i not only enjoy on first listen but instantly want to revisit/reabsorb

dyl, Sunday, 29 March 2015 20:56 (two years ago) Permalink

I don't hear anything even approaching Pomplamoose in this.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 29 March 2015 22:04 (two years ago) Permalink

I just meant that it's annoyingly precious and self-consciously "quirky".

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 29 March 2015 22:17 (two years ago) Permalink

it's just pop music

if anything, max tundra heard pc music and thought 'i can do this better', but it's not too precious imo, just quite exuberant

u have wiked together fiords (imago), Sunday, 29 March 2015 22:59 (two years ago) Permalink

this is p good but even if it wasn't I wouldn't care much because it'll wind up lots of different kinds of dorks

As a fan of both Max Tundra and Daphne and Celeste, I find this to be a bit "meh". I think I much prefer this Perfume song which blatantly knocks of off Max Tundra, than Max Tundra working with an actual pop group:

MarkoP, Sunday, 29 March 2015 23:30 (two years ago) Permalink

oh i've long been a big fan of that perfume song, if that's a max tundra knockoff i may indeed have to look into him more

I like the fact that something came out of Max's weekly "hey [Twitter handle], work with me!", I like the un-compromisingly Max lyrics (stuff about synthesis, "The Third Policeman"), the high-heels as high-hats, the uncool chords, and so on, but it does sound kind of diluted, Max Tundra's standard level of weirdo would make for better girl-pop imo

got a long list of ilxors (fgti), Monday, 30 March 2015 12:27 (two years ago) Permalink

what it loses in 'weird' for the sake of accessibility it makes up for in depth of craft and enthusiasm imo, but yeah I do hope for a whole album of this stuff, with moments of increased intensity

The Max Tundra influence on k-pop is truly one of the examples of quality always finding a way to impact the world. A prophet always being disbelieved in her hometown and all that.

same, and i think it's really selling it short to explain its appeal as pc music-esque

(ftr d&c were on the more obvious part of the spectrum of pop that was successfully critiquing or poking fun at itself, i.e. what pc music has been trying and largely failing to do from afar)

katherine, Monday, 30 March 2015 16:54 (two years ago) Permalink

I think that all that was said was that some Max Tundra stuff is kind of a PC Music precursor, rather than the track is PC Music-esque?

ineloquentwow (Craigo Boingo), Monday, 30 March 2015 17:34 (two years ago) Permalink

Also, judging from his Twitter, he does seem to be a legitimate fan of the PC Music stuff as well.

MarkoP, Monday, 30 March 2015 17:40 (two years ago) Permalink

i was sort-of responding to this: if anything, max tundra heard pc music and thought 'i can do this better'

but yes he does seem to be a fan, i read some of the joint interviews with him/daphne/celeste yesterday and he said that if he were to make a year-end top 10 for 2014 it would basically just be the pc music soundcloud >:|

pretty disappointingly bland to be honest, especially given the lyrics calling out lazy songwriting and this is mainly four chord dirge?

doesn't really take advantage of what daphne and celeste did and/or max tundra's ability. i would love this to be more like parallax error squeezed into a more of a pop sensability but still bursting at the seams. i can imagine something akin to a more "progged out" sophie?

also not into the fact that all the pretty clunky lyrics are so max tundra-ish. fair enough, he's probably writing, but it seems a bit disingenuous coming from two other singer's voice? much like that little shout-out section in you or i alone... that's clearly all in his voice right? or are daphne and celeste also fans of educating marmalade, ariel pink, infinite jest, black dice and captain beefheart etc. etc.?

i love the idea of this collaboration but so far it just seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity for me unfortunately

linee, Saturday, 10 February 2018 22:25 (one week ago) Permalink

also not into the fact that all the pretty clunky lyrics are so max tundra-ish. fair enough, he's probably writing

all the original Daphne & Celeste songs (bar covers) were written by the people that conceived the Daphne & Celeste project. D&C 2.0 is a Max Tundra project. so.

You and I Alone was good, and they said in an interview that they were fans of a lot of the things Tundra referenced in the lyrics too, but BB is pretty dull yeah
