― Odysseus, Saturday, 11 March 2017 12:48 (nine years ago)
I could do Jimi Hendrix. What was the usual time frame before every poll started lasting four months? Two weeks voting, one week rollout?
― ArchCarrier, Thursday, February 9, 2017 1:54 AM (one month ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
I think some dude still wants to do the Hendrix poll himself, or at least that was the case the last time the idea of someone else taking it over was floated?
― soref, Thursday, February 9, 2017 2:04 AM (one month ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
eh go for it. i'm too busy for the foreseeable future to even lurk on ilx most days, let alone run a poll.
― steen vogue (some dude), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:15 (nine years ago)
I'm open and can definitely run a poll. I volunteered to run a cover versions poll back in 2013. Even though 4 years is not a long wait in ILM poll time, it would be a dynamite poll. Anything else on the list that people care to poll?
― kornrulez6969, Saturday, 11 March 2017 16:11 (nine years ago)
Jimi has to wait a bit. Now that the emo poll is finished I can finally start the sequel to my 70s soul albums poll: the tracks poll. Probably somewhere next week.
― ArchCarrier, Saturday, 11 March 2017 16:34 (nine years ago)
xp The cover versions poll sounds cool too. We can plan both polls so that the rollouts don't overlap.
― ArchCarrier, Saturday, 11 March 2017 16:38 (nine years ago)
What is the list now?
― Odysseus, Saturday, 11 March 2017 17:00 (nine years ago)
fwiw I normally like to err on the side of giving ppl as much time as possible HOWEVER what i noticed from the emo poll is that doing it fairly quick (1 week noms, 2 weeks voting/campaigning, 1 week rollout) is that it kept everyone's interest and attention seemingly nonstop for the month. i feel like extending any part of it might've risked peeling ppl off or ppl losing interest and then needing to regain it again. which is to say i've changed my mind and think if possible it should be as taut a timeline as possible (w/out being unreasonably quick).
― Mordy, Saturday, 11 March 2017 17:59 (nine years ago)
For a single artist, you don't even need a nominations period. Just "here is a link to his songography, now vote dummies!"

can someone please go, this can't end with Talking Heads. even if that is a great band to end with. i would do another one but it does take a lot out of me and need a bit more time before my next one.
Moka in the mood to do a poll?
― Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 03:15 (eight years ago)
I've got time and I like running polls so in the absence of anything else I'll run the Blondie if there's no objections. I can't do graphics though so if anyone would like to run that side of things that would be good.
― nate woolls, Monday, 19 June 2017 16:53 (eight years ago)
Blondie would be great! i signed up for that poll but replaced it with Jesus and Mary Chain, which i might run for my next one.

I've been waiting for about 4 years to run my next poll. I'd like to organize a Van Morrison one...he's a major figure with a huge catalog and deserves an ILM poll. What do you good people think?
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 14 July 2017 23:08 (eight years ago)
seems reasonable imo
― mookieproof, Saturday, 15 July 2017 00:12 (eight years ago)

― wtev, Sunday, 16 July 2017 10:34 (eight years ago)
so, replacing the Covers poll? seems fine to me, and you're near enough to the top that you'd be in the next roll call anyway. I say go for it.over in the billy joel thread website decided to do a listening thread for now but return to the poll idea if it still seems like a good idea after that's wrapped (which would be a few months at least). i've been in line for just shy of four years, so can I hold on to that claim ticket or is that weird?

― kornrulez6969, Monday, 17 July 2017 14:17 (eight years ago)
I have no idea what's going on with things being out of order, or if there is still an order, but I'm planning on doing the No Wave poll either in December/early January to coincide with the 40th anniversary of No New York blah blah blah
― sarahell, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 20:52 (eight years ago)
you'll be fine sarahell, the order is messed up anyways. just make sure no other poll is running, maybe bump this thread saying you are going to open it and off you go.
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 23:43 (eight years ago)
tbf up until recently it was still very clearly a line, and plenty of people are in it waiting their turn, just there's been some amount of ppl not being ready when their turn comes around and so we've done a bit of jumping down to ppl slightly lower in the list to respect that? i think?
― ﴿→ ☺ (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 20 July 2017 00:25 (eight years ago)
good point and i agree. we should keep the order as best that we can. there are gaps that i wish did not happen...
― Bee OK, Thursday, 20 July 2017 01:12 (eight years ago)
If I was down to run any of these I would have volunteered for a music video poll series.

They can be great, especially with acts that have huge discographies that you're not 100% familiar with. For me, the Kinks and Parliament-Funkadelic polls were momentous.
― kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 00:11 (eight years ago)
who wants to run a poll? we are in need for a new poll.
i was thinking about bumping Smashing Pumpkins for my next poll but because i ran Talking Heads this year i will wait and open that Mega one around Feb of 2018. i will probably run "Shoegaze/Dream Pop/Post-rock (Albums and EPs)" since we got a fantastic new Slowdive album this year and it's my next poll on this list.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:01 (eight years ago)
would be cool with a Glen Campbell poll
― Spottie, Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:04 (eight years ago)

― droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 16:38 (eight years ago)
The rare poll where I would, at the very least, make an attempt to relisten to the two Worldwide Hits box sets I got through once and shelved years ago. I would, before I die, like to be able to say I'm a bigger fan of Elvis's music than I am of Elvis, the Guy Who Changed the World. Who I'm a very big fan of. They're not quite inseparable.
― clemenza, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 17:16 (eight years ago)
