I am not sure where it is now..my name Marissa Marchant comes up alot on these boards.
here is a comment I just left...

Hi, I don't know if anyone is reading this. It is better to sing well then to sing on tune all the time.
Even the best sing off once in a while. I don't have a pitch shifter nor do I want one. I don't want to rely on talent buttons.
You must read my gig section, if you don't start supporting artists by writing positive messages about them all over the internet I will change my stage name and titles and you will never find me again.
You people have two months. I will get a new breed of appreciative people. Comments..like ..." I am growing tired of Marissa cause she isn't a celebrity." these are mentally abusive comments coming from people who are lowlife.
If you google search me, you will see why we don't have good music on the radio anymore.
People are truly abusive to artists..and not supportive of them.
]the radio sucks and it is because of the masses..they suck..
the only people who suck and who sing off key all the time ,, are the masses..

Please notify all people on this site, that they can't just abuse artists and get away with it....

bg (creamolafoam), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Not everyone is slandering and insulting people.
people don't insult people who sing really really badly with pitch shifters.
There is more to singing then pitch.
Like emotion, passion and having a sense of musicality. but no, the masses don't insult people who can't sing.
I don't cry over idiots who slander and gang up on artists.
I know there are great people out there who are not lowlife.
You are just one breed of people. when you Google search me..this is just one group of masses.
there are other groups of people who are not abusive of aritsts.
This doesn't bother me. the only people who lose out on cultural growth are people who like reality shows and the radio.
bye now..Marissa

I work hard on what I do, because I value it.
But I don't care if certain groups of people don't value what I do.

things are coming together for me. I have tons of studio gear and waiting for my last piece..
I literally sleep with my instruments...and I love music.
other people's music too, if it something with passion.
inspiration etc...
some commerial people have been good in the past.
you judge..musicians shouldn't be worshiped..but they should have some kind of respect shown to them.
I just don't think some people who are making millions right now deserve it.
I don't think they eat breath and sleep music. I think they have other motives.
anyhow...
I am not weak..I can deal with negativity..to a point...
but why should I put up with my name being defamed?
rich people can pay to control google searches.
I can't ...this is abuse.
and there doesn't seem to be much positive ..but I know there are many great people out there would not abuse me like this...I know this..groups of people who are more gentle, polite and kind. ]]

some receive abuse mail from time to time, always the same people disguising themselves. It comes a time, when enough is enough because there are other groups of people that could be exposed to my music and they would be more kind and polite.
This has been going on for too long.
I have learned alot from being on the net. I think staying positive is the best deal as much as possible...and being judicious.

first off one guy says I am married with kids when I am not..and he says I am married to the guy from the doors who they claim is still alive..lol.
then they post my name on livejournal.com and make believe that I made up that account...
they go on different sites making up stories and exaggerating things...
and posing my identity...
I don't think I went on a million messages boards to defame anyone.
I did say that I don't think some of people deserve to be living in million dollar homes when music isn't their whole life...
These peopel don't eat breathe and sleep music..
they are into money, image and whatnot...
not music.
they don't really love it..it is not in their blood.
they don't deserve to be living in zillion dollar homes while other people who sleep with their instruments are being abused...and ignored.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:59 (eighteen years ago) link

marissa, in all fairness, what do want from people?

generally speaking, people DON'T care about artists until there's $$$ involved. unless they actually DO like their music, then, it's different. but, for the most part (say 75%) people are indifferent.
then, you have the 25%(i think i might be exaggerating the actual percent, it's probably much lower), who DO care about music, but don't agree about the music itself.

so, i don't know if you want the agreeance or the caring, which is more important?

suggestion- play out, A LOT, everywhere. build a tride n' true fanbase, there you'll find the positivity you seek. otherwise, ridicule's everywhere. care if you want, i'd suggest not...fer sanity's sake.

all the rest are me...saying things to support what I am doing, since no one thinks I am worth anything.

No one.
I am even afraid to go on indie boards because the people there are extremely abusive and not supporting people like myself. since i know that very few people are saying anything nice about me...and I know that I am really the only person who cares about me,...I think I should try again to attract different kinds of people under a different name, unless I see a change in the google search soon.

the major label people want your money attention and time, and they dont' want you to focus on people like myself. they hire people to defame people like myself.
like comments " I am growing tired of Marissa because she isn't a celebrity" that was most likely posted by someone from a major corporation.
these people make sure the negativity is posted about people who they think they want to become famous or popular. they want Jessica simpson to be popular even though she isn't writing music.
and John Mayor, even though he isn't jimmy page or someone that is unique.
they are ignoring all kinds of people and then go out of their to defame them on the net. they are so threatened by people like myself..and will spend their time monitoring the net to keep their products popular.
they want the music on the radio to be popular, not people like myself.

marissa marchant, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I meant they don't want certain people to become famous or popular...
and they are very threatened by indie musicians that have more talent then people they promote ..who can't write, sing well or play instruments.
I am not the only one they are defaming on the net...google is being paid to monitor the net...to create images....
and images that are negative about artists ....
and positive images about people who are not artists.

even if I had the most incredible recordings known to man right now..the corporations are being paid to monitor the net and like they control the media, they are controlling the net and images and impressions...
they are so aware of eveything I say, and will delete and monitor things that they feel are threatening to their agenda.
they are very aware of me, their agenda is to make sure people don't find out that women have alot of talent in composition...
this is about power and domination, and control..the net is about suppressing people it isn't about freedom..the net is being dominated.
I have seen themm delete comments that would have helped a musician or helped promote me...
things that are very positive about me.
they don't want it to get out in the public that music industry doesn't sign talented people ...

this is all done on purpose, they know they are ignoring new talents..and making sure their message and music doesn't get out in the public...once a corporation is aware of someone who is a threat..they are paid to monitor the google search daily. they see the net as a threat....
they need control...
they want to tell YOU who is cool.
Who is not.
no freedom, or little.
I make a bet if people went really crazy with spreading positive comments about me on every message board imaginable...it wouldn't show up under the Google...
meaning no Matter how many people might have said positive things , I would never know about it, cause it is deleted.
Some people are blacklisted..
Because they have an agenda....
not just to control the media and net..but not to promote artists.

they didn't feel threatened..but this site..
you have said very positive things...and if you notice only the negaitivity shows up under Google..
they must have my ip...this is kind of sick..I notice when people do say positive things...and no me saying them....The Google Search never allows the positive things to show up under my name ...this is problem..these people are not supportive....
they don't understand why I have insulted some major label artists. well some of them, didn't return my huge compliments...when I have met them ...
or had contact with them, the other reason, is because they are just spiteful.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:55 (eighteen years ago) link

This is kind of weird. I was reading through this thread and started to notice something about Ms. Marchant's prose stylings that was kinda familiar. Google provided a bunch of other places where her name had come up, either in bizarrely located self promotion (like Vegetarian or Holistic medicine message boards) or Blog comment spam using assumed names as her own fans. The writing was the same throughout, especially the almost total lack of capitalization and mid sentance paragraph breaks).

So now I gotta ask: Marissa, are you also the person(s) who was going off on I*a and H*lly from NdG a few months back?

I prefer not to, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:00 (eighteen years ago) link

some of you might think I am imagining things..but I would like you to try it...try making lots of positive comments about my music on different message boards and it won't show...
Harmony Central ..the people there said wonderful things about me,
How come that doesnt' show up?
a guy from San Fransicao posted a great article about me, and that doesnt' show up....
they just make it look like they are not doing this...by leaving a few good comments first..just to cover their tracks...
If you people by the hundreds when out of your way to post positive comments on every board that posted negative...months later..the negative comments would only be there.
No matter how many positive comments people make..which is more then two...none of it shows up under google search..only places where I complimented myself.
This is not good. I shouldn't be complimenting myself.

not to rob it..
ahahha.
but I noticed that they only allow 10 or so rows of messages to be posted with my name attached.
and they don't allow anyone to become famous or known, if that threatens their agenda...
There are more talented artists out there even signed ones then Jessica Simpson and they ignore them too...
but ...I am not only saying this...
They have deleted comments that I made about great artists...
and big compliments that I made about unknowns...
people who threaten them,...they allow certain comments to be made if the person doesn't threaten them. I wrote great comments about some great guitarist...that doesn't show up under the google search. they allow only 10 things and they make sure that it doesn't look too legit.
They put my name near William Hung..and the endless comments about how I am insane.
and awful...but I do know that real people complimented my work, other then myself...
And that should show up under google...
it doesn't.
only insults...
Why did they sign William Hung and give him exposure?
when they have so many real musicians out there working their ass off.
for the same reason , they defaming my character on the net and hiring people to do so.

As part of his argument Turing put forward the idea of an 'imitation game', in which a human being and a computer would be interrogated under conditions where the interrogator would not know which was which, the communication being entirely by textual messages. Turing argued that if the interrogator could not distinguish them by questioning, then it would be unreasonable not to call the computer intelligent.

Turing's 'imitation game' is now usually called 'the Turing test' for intelligence.

Unfortunately I am very positive and upbeat about talented people.

but they don't want that to be known or these people to be known.
I am very positive, but the people around me are very negative about music , about originality etc......

do you feel that the music industry right now is very positive about investing in talent?
Micheal Jackson is not wrong about a conspiracy..
but he was part of it...
and is now letting people. know about it.
anyone who signs with these people becomes part of their agenda...
which is not to sign composers or virtuosos...and to make women look dumb.
..and to make black people white...they don't sign very dark blacks..and micheal jackson has been mentally abused ...and what is sad..you don't see that...this is why he ruined his face...and lightened his skin..if you haven't noticed all the very light skinned blacks /half blacks in the music industry?
they are extremely bigotted and prejudiced.
They haven't signed one extremely dark skinned black person.
and that is unfair..because they have talent too.
This is evil.
I am sure that Micheal has really been a tortured soul.
They pick on him because alot of people messed him up as a child and now they want to call him a freak...it is really sad.
this poor guy was abused...
he was a child star and I can tell that micheal jackson has really been mentally abused...not saying he is without fault...

I believe you are out there..numbers of you..I love vinyl and quality..I am getting some icons to back these festivals.. but have to have extraordinary talent.. any style of music.. any race ,, age...female..male..disabled...any nationality is accepted.. thankyou...don't feel scared to contact me..if you know anyone who is a genius..don't be jealous of them..tell them about this ad.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't read comments hardly at all from any boards, here is the reason.

.......
the people have NO depth, little maturity and the only kinds of words you understand is things like suck my dick.
you know little about anything except courtney love and brand names like edie brickell..
whatever her name is. there is more to music then listening to major label people.
and if you keep focusing on only stars on t.v..you will miss out on cultural growth..
corporations are educating the masses or encouraging cultural growth.
I don't listen to any major label artists anymore, because the world is too big and filled with so many interesting musicians.
I don't see any reason to focus on these people when there are so many seriously talented people who are not brand names.
edie brikell doesn't play instruments does she?
sings in one octave?
the commerical is o.k sometimes...nice production..but there is more to music then listening to these pop stars..
that is why I want to cater to a more mature audience. I mean emotionally mature.
I want to go on obscure boards and cater to people who are opened and freethinking...
people who are constantly focused on the media personalities and comparing me with media personalities are people I avoid.
I don't see any reason to focus on the media at....
that seems to narrow and boring for me.

marissa marchant, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:03 (eighteen years ago) link

bland.
don't turn me into a bland pop, folk star...
I am not bland.
...I think that most of the music biz is very boring, just like reality shows, movies that were already made ten or twenty years ago...
remaking old movies is something that they are doing because the people who now run the media have very little upstairs.
that is why they don't accept new fresh and original ideas.
nothing is fresh,
nothing is new, fresh, alive, passionate...I suggest you go on some obscure boards and listen to some flamenco or some people who are not commerical who sing and write passionate music. America is bland. the people are boring. the culture is dead. UK is boring too. both cultures are boring and dead. No passion, no romance..no beauty.
we are living in such a bland time in history.
but it doesn't have to be that way if people are really not focusing on the bland rehash of the media.

you will be shot (you will be shot), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:37 (eighteen years ago) link

when I was a kid I was a little bored of the media..I bought a record , it was from france...the band was Kornog.
they are obscure..on green linnet records.
I like breton music because of the greek bouzouki which is absolutely hauntingly gorgeous and the music is very dark at times..irish music doesn't do that much for me, but America sells it ...
they decide to sell it..
I also like or love an instrument called,
chinese GU ZHENG, THAT andreas vollenweider uses sometimes.
this instrument is also very exotic and gorgeous and sensuous. then I love FLAMENCO....these virtuosos are some of the most under-rated right now.
they are the most passionate ...but i like the people who play flamenco who are less commerical and not as slick..
it depends...
I love listening to obscure world music, bulgaria...and it really does something for me to listen to this music.
I have an encyclopedia of music in my house and anyone can go to the library or go on line to explore world music ....
it is very interesting...alot more interesting then listening to clone music ...with the same instruments over and over..I like to listen to alot of different instruments...
there is much obscure music..I sometimes look for medieval music on the net...
I listen to commerical people, mostly classical rock..but after awhile I need to look elsewhere, I can't keep listening to these people they shove down my throat...
music was not meant to be a product..but something that was done to bring people together in a warm sort of way....
not just to cash in...

marissa marchant, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:39 (eighteen years ago) link

I apologize for using strong language on here. I am just getting a little sick of the attitude..
I am not on the net to be mocked.
I am not in competition with commercial people.
That is why I want to change my stage name. and I have been many stages in my lifetime.
This country is going down the tubes.
the media is into control. I just want to make a living. I am not looking for big bucks and I am not looking to dominate.
that is why I want to go under a different name and just post on obscure sites in different countries.
I had more pictures. right now < I am moving , I can't find my photos in the boxes...I had photos..then I took them down...does it really matter to people what I look like. Men don't give me attention no matter what I do...
and everyone thinks Jessica Simpson is hot, and Courtney love is a better musician and Sarah Mc.laclahn. Alot of people think that anyone who is not famous must be inferior..so why fight against this...why don't you people just listen to famous people and forget about me..I am happy just doing my music for people who don't talk about the media. believe it or not, there are some people who are not into the media..and I want to find them and get a new name..and forget about the media, the commerical world and all this phony trash...I don't want to ever mention their names again.

Elwyn Chow (I say we take off and nuke the), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 01:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Marissa, what exactly will changing your name do? You will alienate many of your current fans, and anyone who *wants* to hate you (for whatever weird reason) will have no problem figuring out your new identity. Say what you want about the lack of kindness of the online community, but Internet users are a savvy bunch, and very little skips past the collective consciousness.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 01:46 (eighteen years ago) link

someone made an important comment.
or an intelligent comment.
I think I have become very angry not just at corporations, but at the majority of people who just have adopted this apathetic attitude about musicians and artists.
the corporations have created a culture, and this culture is very hostile, berating and abusive not to mention disrespectful to artists.
If they create a culture that learns to disrespect artists..then that is something to be angry at.
but you can't just express angry toward these power hungry thugs.
They want docile, limp, quiet people who walk on eggshells. they like to intimidate people to shut up, so they can dominate...]
well, I might decide to change my name in a couple months to start over, not talk about commerical people and not go on commerical loving boards. I have been speaking mostly about obscure music..occasionally I will make a comment about a commerical person...that always show up under the google...the obscure people don't..but this is a learning experience. I made some mistakes ...
I posted my links in places that were not good for me...
that is my mistake...live and learn...
but 39000 people in one month were abusing and hassassing me in december 2003 because I spoke out against our culture. wow, that says something...it says people don't like people to speak out, and to think differently.
that means if I am not a clone and I think different thoughts then what the media tells me, that most people think there is something wrong with me.
that is sad.
I am not into dictatorship and censorship.
It bothers me that dictators are censoring our ability to make choices, by eliminating choices.
I just want to remain very low key actually....
and if people don't start doing something to counteract the defamacation. spelling>? then I will take down my site and start over...

Are you guys really having fun with this? This kind of beatdown shit is really boring to me.
-- deej.. (el...), August 3rd, 2005.

deej, with all due respect as a friend and a peer, I find your posts here to be the most offenisve as I *know* you're not a created character...you're a real live person.

Read the thread instead of coming in here and assuming EVEREYONE is beating this "person" down...and more imporatantly, read her, uh, "responses", and what she's, uh, "responding" too.

I think Marissa Marchant is a character, not a person.

I've said time and time again I am a fan of this character.

She has yet to acknowledge that (because that's part of the character), and you've yet ackowledged those in here who have praised and/or supported her. What's worse?

If I'm wrong about her being a character, that's okay...she's not reading and responding to _anything_ that has been said...just rant after rant after rant.

That's what I'm enjoying.

She doesn't even take the praise...she just goes from delivering her one dimensional speech to saying "suck my dick" and back to the one dimensional speech.

If she actually cared about what she was saying, she'd quickly see that ILM is FILLED with obscure music threads. She might even enjoy them. Who knows, maybe she could become like the female Geir or something, always chiming in with one or two points thread after thread.

The character is brilliant. The people taking it seriously are part of the act. One can't exist w/o the other...

But deej, remind us again to stay out of the 50 Cent threads with our "50 Cent sucks" responses...because your response here equals that (albeit, with good intentions...just without thorough actions to support those intentions).

Hopefully you know I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but there is another side you seem to refuse to look at in this.

OR - She is a crazy person, and we are picking on a crazy person. But she said she wasn't crazy. She said all the people on the internet are crazy!

It's a character. Enjoy it. Be part of it or leave it alone.

PapaWheelie, unless you mean "she's a character" in the sense that we're all characters, then you're wrong. On the evidence, Marissa's a person & she is roughly "like" her net persona. To speak unkindly to her is, yes, the same as speaking unkindly to someone's face. Deej is on the money. This thread is mainly kids seeing one of their own with a broken limb & stomping on the limb repeatedly, presumably to prove to themselves that they themselves aren't lame.

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, if you know for a fact that this person actually exists, then I am wrong about this "character" business.

But still, she isn't responding to what's being said by people here. She's using this as a platform to say the same thing she's famous for saying (i.e. the current state of the music and entertainment industry sucks, and her music is made BY A VIRTUOSO, therefore is worth $1000 per CD).

The whole thing is a joke to me. I like the joke. Some people on this thread are asses (ILM has asses - shockah), and some weren't. She hasn't ackowledged much of either. Just ranting. Unprompted.

Now I'm making the same points over an over.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:38 (eighteen years ago) link

And I do feel these points I made are overlooked in this debate to get to the bottom:

She doesn't even take the praise...she just goes from delivering her one dimensional speech to saying "suck my dick" and back to the one dimensional speech.

If she actually cared about what she was saying (ie prasing those who like obscure music), she'd quickly see that ILM is FILLED with obscure music threads.

The bottom line: she's either a character, or incredibly negative and obstanate person (possibly crazy, yes). All while some (many) ILM'rs are assholes.

I'm at least trying to make sense of it rather than taking sides while ignoring everything on the table.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:56 (eighteen years ago) link

One thing you have to understand. I am NOT the underdog.
I have a expensive home studio, I have original ideas.
I am not lacking in imagination.
I don't have a broken limb.
There is nothing wrong with ME.
The people who are signed are Underdogs..that is why they are signed.
They take the people who really don't have originality or creativity that can make for a lasting career. They are losing millions of dollars a year, they laid off thousands at Sony.
/they were just sued for paying some radio stations to play their music.
They are the only people with a broken limb. You should feel sorry for people who have NO soul.
People who lack a soul, care about image, looks and skin colours, and nose shapes..and nationalities, rather then hearts, souls and orginality. I am not a person who is losing. I hear original music everyday. But the public is losing, because they are finding it harder and harder to find anything that is original.
But if the kids never heard oldies and classical music etc..it would be all fresh to them.
I have a fifty thousand dollar studio in my house..I don't have an easy life at all...and tomorrow I am back to work..no time for the net. But my dislike for people who are not opened to anything outside the walls of the media, sort of disurb me.
You go off on these subjects that make no sense. I am Marissa Marchant.
I am saying the same thing here as I am on my gig section. that should tell that I am Marissa. and I am not afraid to tell people to suck my dick..because I don't have a dick.
ahahhahahah.
but I do have more of dick then most men I meet.
Men are so weak and frail these days.
I am not weak and frail...I am handling being mocked and abused for years...
I can handle it..the question is...I can do better then to expose my music and heart to filth...
but

i think some people on this board work for the music industry.
they try to counteract anything that is against them..or seemingly insulting to them.
I really think your number is up...the jig is up...you have been found out, they pay people to come on these boards..Instead of investing in artists, they pay people to protect their agenda against artists and unique artists.

Hi Marissa.
I hope things are okay with you.
Why don't you do a gig somewhere? If you did, I'd come and so would a lot of other people. I can't speak for them, but I'd pay a small cover charge to see you play and promise to be respectful. I still occasionally listen to your music. Try not to care so much about what other people think about you; it tends to be counterproductive.
Anyway, best of luck. Let us know when you're playing live in NYC.

My two bits: Don't let worrying about what people think interfere with the far more important and pleasurable work of making music.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Off topic, but maybe more interesting to some:

How do I wash an old or antique quilt?

First, I would never wash an antique quilt in a washing machine, at least not one which has an agitator as the quilt will get wrapped around the agitator and will more than likely be ruined.

I would also never wash a quilt containing wool or silk, nor would I dry clean an antique quilt. Wool and silk are especially fragile. Dry cleaners use strong solutions and are more likely to hurt a quilt rather than save it.

Also, there must be no damaged areas--areas where you can see the batting poking out, rips, or places where the dyes (or other things) have eaten through the fabric. These are too fragile to withstand cleaning.

Most quilts in good condition (without damage mentioned above),can be cleaned first by vacuuming. You need to get a screen, fiberglass window screening available by the yard at your hardware store works well. Tape or sew binding on the edges to prevent the sharp ends from pulling threads or snagging the quilt.

Prepare a large table, or the floor by laying down a white sheet. Place the quilt on top, then the screen on top of that. Take a vacuum which is set at the softest suction possible by adjusting the air flow and hold the vacuum OVER the quilt (not directly on it). The vacuum will suck up dirt without pulling up the fibers. The screen helps prevent any damage to the quilt and holds all the fibers down. Vacuum the entire top of the quilt, then turn it over and vacuum the back side. This often is enough.

Some cotton quilts may be cleaned in the following way, but it is important to test the quilt to make sure that the dyes are stable.

Test each of different fabrics as follows: take a try Q tip and rub it over each of the fabrics. IF the color transfers, then it is likely it will run. If it passes this test, then dampen the q-tips and rub it on each of the fabrics. If it comes off onto the q-tip, then it will run.

If you have come this far without it running, then for the discolored spots, you can mix up a solution of non-chlorine bleach, specifically, I would use oh bother...Oxydol? It is in a blue container...and it is a really good addition to your washing...darling daughter is singing in my ear and I am having a hard time remembering. I'll check in the basement later. Spot treat the areas using a spoon or a piece of muslin to tamp it on.

Draw some cold or at most tepid water into the bath tub...put in approx. 2 T of Orvus paste (you can get this at quilt shops, from Clotilde, or from some Livestock supply places (cheapest there....it was originally designed for washing Livestock--it is straight sodium Lauryl Sulfate and is gentlest on your stuff) into about 4 - 5" of water. Buy one of the Woolite or CArbona "dye mops" to absorb dye which leaches in to the water...as a precaution. Lay the screening on top of the water and place quilt on top. Put dye mop on top of that. Pat the water through the quilt, not wringing. continue patting. Do not let the quilt soak as if the dyes go into the water and resettled, that is what contributes to the running of the dyes.

Drain off water, and run cold water through until the water comes off clear and no suds.

Press water out of quilt. Use towels to blot more water out. Lift the quilt on the screen (textiles are at their weakest when wet) and lay the quilt flat to dry...either on top of a clean sheet laid on the floor or outside. If you are putting the quilt outside to dry, cover the top with another sheet so that nothing falls on the quilt. Inside, put a fan on the quilt. After the top seems dry, turn it over and let the back side dry.

they are aware that the president is not that hip, that MTV is fake and that reality t.v sucks.
They are in touch with the real world. congradulations Jmeister.

Marissa, there isn't a single person on this board that doesn't agree with you, yet most of them still feel your music to be a bit bland; perhaps a retread of Loreena McKennitt's stuff from the very early '90s but with less flair still. You've also found yourself in the very unenviable position of swimming in a pool of sharks, and we're often just waiting to rip a poor little seal to shreds... why? Because we're a bunch of strong-opinioned pricks (sometimes) who like to really get at the root of how music and culture affect one another. The truth is, most of us have nothing to do with the music industry, at least from a major-label angle, (some are journalists, but we're hardly part of the "industry" per se) and contrary to what you might think about how we "support" artists and art, we actually fucking love music so deeply (it is called I Love Music after all) that we're just basically insulted when crap artists foist their junk onto us and call it music and then demand certain respect for their less-than-worthy output. (search threads for the name Michael Costello... we just couldn't seem to kill that kid... good sport, he is, and i think many of us have grown to like him around!)

Despite the fact that I, and many of us here, find your songs to be incredibly tired and completely the antithesis of what challenging, kicking-against-the-pricks music should sound like (believe it or not, that's what we're really trying to get at), I'm sure that with all the ravenous music consumers on the net there is indeed a place for you where you will find a supportive fanbase. But if it hasn't yet dawned on you, the I Love Music board just isn't that place. When it comes to promoting yourself, it would serve you well to do a bit of research before you put your name out there and when you do put your name out there, recognize that you'll never be able to control what happens to it once you have.

I am moving to New York again, not the city but another city in New York State.
It is a very cultural city considering it is in the usa. hahah.
I am packing my things and we redid the lights...I was thinking some lead paint fell into my drink while we were redoing the lights.
So I had to throw up my whole dinner ...
to avoid any lead paint poisoning.
Yes, I have to move to a bigger and quieter house to record and I have my fairly large studio ..especially for a home studio....
So I am concentrating on that. I won't be living in a big city like NYC cause it costs too much for large space and nothing is quiet. I have a 650 pound sound booth...but my piano has be recorded in a regular room.
My house has to become the studio.
I don't have a Van..and a group of dudes to travel with..so I don't go from town to town, paying for the gas...
I am just singing weddings, parties..and whatever comes up..right now..I haven't been trying to connect with other musicians..because I have been doing this for years..and alot of musicians snub me off..and act elitist and snobby, like they are all too good to play for me ...of course it depends..but connecting with really with it people on a cultural level..is extremely hard to find...take care all.

ONe more thing before I go, I plan on going on alot of foreign boards and even russian and asian boards..to promote my music. I am very frustrated with the Avalon company, but I am about to move.
I really don't have to brainwash or defend what I do, or even correct people's opinions.
I don't have the time to think about what people are saying every minute. I am mostly focused on the music...and the instruments.
If someone doesn't like it, they can go find a different flavor.
I am writing some different music right now, and it sounds nothing like what I was writing...I tend to not like to repeat the same thing too many times or the same type of music.
I have a Blue Tunes Called...Page blue..I can't wait to record it, and it is in open tuning.
It sounds nothing like Celtic music or Asian music.
Either does Green Tea, Flyer saucer and Busy is he..I would love to get a real drummer that kiss behind to play and record with me on Busy Is he...
??if you would like to be supportive help me find some talented people who could play on these recordings.

marissa marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 02:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I attract alot of jazz musicians and fusion artists from around the world. Mostly jazz and classical musicians like me. I do play some rock,,but I need a real drummer.
I am writing in different languages right now, spanish, french, and italian mainly and of course English.
I am writing music and not just for English audiences.
I love other langages...as I studied voice in many of them.

Grace jones and Seal are exceptions...
but they do mostly project lighter skin people are beautiful..and you know it...
they are signing women who sing black music and replacing real soulful black singers.
they are also signing alot of half blacks and giving them grammies.
I think you know they are catering to lighter skin people, and people who look anglo.
they are very prejudiced.
Seal is an exception and they haven't gone mad with promoting this man...Not like Ricky Martin, because they are focused on image and not on music.

marissa marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 02:27 (eighteen years ago) link

marissa marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 02:28 (eighteen years ago) link

the media is prejudice in general..and they pighole people and they promote light skinned people as beauties...
they promote certain nationalities as beauties and others as intellects. They are bigotted. they don't let women play jazz ...real improv....
which none of the women are doing in the entertainment industry. They don't play jazz.
They are very few jazz musicians who actually play an instrument.
This is sad, that they can't relax and stop focusing on skin color, nose shapes, and sex ..to just focus on music.
they are very uptight people.
some africians compose classical music, and they ignore them.
I don't like bigots.

it would be very very difficult to find me...
You don't know where this website is do you< no.
and I planning on making a different name cause I don't think this other name...
and not promoting it much right now..but I could go on the most obscure boards and you will never find me. I don't think I have made real fans on the boards I am on. This is abuse and it isn't nice..and there are good people I can spend my time with. There are very few very nice people on these kinds of boards.
If you were so saavy you would be able to tell me what my other stage name is...
you can't...
I will do anything to get rid of you people , as I think you are mostly insincere and not a good bunch of people.
Some of you are good..but most of you re dirt bags.

marissa marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 03:21 (eighteen years ago) link

The person who did that album Mer De Rats, is Nicolas Quemener of the band Kornog and Hudel etc....I know it is him because he is weak, and frail, and I wrote many nice letters to Nicolas, and he is a very difficult person. I told him I had a rat and mouse in my house one day. ..and said they were my friends. I was joking. I had left a little food out by accident. Usually my house is clean.
very clean..but I live in a very wooded area.
This is a reason why men do not support female musicians.
I play guitar, and piano, and congas.
..and some electric instruments. And voice is an instrument.
Nicolas is not a very warm person. He comes from France and is more like the Irish, English then a Frenchman. He comes from Brittany. He is not a warm person, like alot of Latin French. Nicolas thinks he can go all over the net and post insulting, abusive and mean comments about me...and he is doing it with other people.
why? I play guitar, so does he, and he can't be supportive of what I do, just insulting ususally. but he sort of gives compliments.
Nicolas is full of himself.
And really has a boys club in france, they only allow women to play accordian and harp...nicolas is uncomfortable that I play the guitar....
Nicolas is the only person here who plays rat. I like Crispin Glover.

Marissa Marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 14:47 (eighteen years ago) link

It is always the same people over and over again who post on these boards that is why I am thinking of getting rid of these people. It is o.k that some people don't like my music, but it is the same people saying the same things all over the net and trying to make is seem that alot of people agree with them...when it is just one or two people.

this is called defamacation. These people have NO life. They are jaded musicians or want to be musicians who can't accept people who play alot of different types of music. It is obvious that I don't sound like Loreena Mc. Kenitt.spelling????whatever..
She plays celtic music that is about it..and harp...one instrument. There is no comparision. I am a progressive musician.
I play fusion...she doesn't. she doesn't play jazzy music..or classical, or rock alternative...and what you see on my site is not all of what I do...
just a fraction...but you some of you don't like it...stop harassing me about it....

Marissa Marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 15:00 (eighteen years ago) link

It seems that very few people on this board are being supportive or kind to me.
This is just one more of many abuse threads with mostly sick males who have no penis, or testicles.
Hiding behind their computers.
Since there are very few people on any of these boards doing anything but insulting me, publically defaming me and my character. You will all lose out of hearing my new music. You could send money...but if you are not supportive on the internet, the money will not make up for the abuse. You are not that computer saavy because you are unable to find my other stage name right now..and I am going to make up another one and get rid of the name Marissa Marchant, My name is Marissa..but I will have to change my whole name to get this harassment and abuse to end. I need to expose my music to mature people. When you go on other sites...no one is insulting other musicians like this constantly.
I want to get rid of a few crazies who keep making up alias's and harassing me. People with NO life.

i'd genuinely love to hear some of your music, marissa, but your perplexing habit of barracking people before they've even heard you, on the assumption that if they did, they WOULD DEFINITELY LOVE YOU and throw away the rest of their record collections on principle, is making it harder for me to make the leap.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 6 August 2005 15:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I never said to make a one dollar donation to my ass. YOu obviously are extremely happy with Fiona Apple and jessica simpson and Eva Cassidy who doesn't write music..or didn't...
You are satisfied with this music. So since you are satified with the music industry...I think that next week is the day that I will permantently end the Domain Name of Marissa Marchant and find really nice people to connect with .I don't need you people as fans. There are many nice people on the net who don't go out and defame and make up stories about people.

marissa marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 15:37 (eighteen years ago) link

You are perfectly satified waiting for major labels to feed you...
you are not supportive of artists. it is not a compliment for me to be compared to Eddie Brikell, Fiona...Loreen Mc.kennitt.
..and eva cassidy.
Major labels don't sign really talented artists ....hardly at all...
especially now.
this is very insulting to me.
Why is it insulting..??? These people are bland...uninteresting...
boring..

marissa marchant, Saturday, 6 August 2005 15:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Marissa, I can honestly say I have never knowingly heard a note of music by any of the three people you mention - Fiona Apple, Jessica simpson and Eva Cassidy. They're not really famous in the UK - at least, not as singers or musicians, just as "American celebrities" for whatever vague reason.

And what's all this cant about the worthlessness of singers who don't write their own material? There's a world of difference between covering other people's songs and having songs written for you; and it's fairly easy to reel off a list of incredibly gifted singers who never wrote a song in their lives.

But I agree - there's a lot of incredibly boring music in the world, and if I had the talent to do so, I'd do my best to counter that dullness with some staggeringly original songs and jaw-dropping performances. As it is, I - and most of ILM - spend my days sifting through the shit to find the good stuff.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 6 August 2005 15:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Like Chopin and other composers who were great pianist and composers in one...you can find great singers like Barbara and great composers in one...like any instruments...there are people who are great singers and great composers in one person...so why sign people who are not great at either?
or just great at one thing....
it is called double virtuosity...and these people exist in the world...
It is important to note that is takes more talent to be multi talented...
and the music industry signs all these people who can barely sing and can't write most of their music.
or they can write but can't sing...
or they sign jazz musicians who can play well, but don't write well...
record companies need to stop being ignorant and sign multi gifted artists....more often.

I am tired of hearing about famous people in the U.K and America. It is tiring and boring.
Both countries and the people in them are mostly boring people.
I am getting tired of people comparing me to media personalities and hearing about these people....

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 7 August 2005 00:01 (eighteen years ago) link

what do you mean by one extra revolution 2 many? i like the song so much i have a hard time imagining something wrong with it (other than, i guess, the glorification of murder)

Lugoi, Sunday, 7 August 2005 00:08 (eighteen years ago) link

its a really reaaly great song. glorification of violence issue a non-issue. my problem with it is: incredible verse, fairly incredible short chorus, out of this world guitar solo which cools down, then back again with more incredibly lyrics, the chorus, creepy low-laying guitar solo leading up to something maybe more insane.....but then he just repeats again and then it ends. i think its a really odd structure choice for this song. it should have been much shorter or much much longer and slightly veering but repeating over and over and over again. but it was geared toward pop and blues structure, I guess. there seems to be some struggle on that album with making pop songs and wanting to make the songs he'd later write which were much more sprawling and a-structured.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 7 August 2005 00:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Gotcha. I bet part of the struggle for Neil was coming off the disappointing sales of his self-titled solo debut, and while he wanted to stretch way, way out (like he'd done with "Last Trip to Tulsa" and "Broken Arrow" on BS' Again), he figured he had to earn the clout to do that first. A sidelong "Down by the River" or "Cowgirl in the Sand" might have seemed too risky. Who knows though.

Lugoi, Sunday, 7 August 2005 00:50 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah that makes sense.

Most men like myself can live without women happily. I ride the bus everywhere without women, without making love, without any intimacy with a woman.
but I am happy. Most men love being with other men.
I enjoy spending my time with male friends, and I find being with women painful and unhappy.

Hi, I have turned down record contracts. I wouldn't sign with any major label. They would make my music sound trite, commerical, sappy and overly -produced.
They are not into Art....
Just like Crispin Glover..he turned down the sequel to Back to the Future.
Why? because he knew that his character would be over-played and it would ruin the whole purpose of his performance in the first movie. He is a genius.
Or just very brilliant.
He is independent.
I am not worried about my demos...I have a fifty thousand dollar studio and waiting for Avalon to send me this fantastic piece of gear....
I am sure I will do well.
I already have the atention of people in Venice, and people from different countries.
I sing in different Languages so that will help to broad my scope in the future....I am about to move to a quiet place so I can really record. But you won't be able to abuse me anymore, or have the benenit of hearing good, fresh, new music, because you abuse people.

marissssa marchantttt, Sunday, 7 August 2005 13:15 (eighteen years ago) link

this is really the artist, the former name Marissa Marchant that someone stole and registered under.

I would never sign a major label contract unless I had some artistic freedom.

they don't promote anyone who mixes world music into their music right now.
I don't play irish celtic music...
I play fusion and progressive music alot of the time, or some of the time. They don't have ANY progressive and fusion singer/ writers.
They would have me change my style to be more of a clone.
they don't allow for enough aritstic freedom in todays music industry.

They are overly producing their albums right now.
I don't like alot of the backround instrumentation....
or it is one dimentional..the whole album has the same instruments through out.
They just like piano, guitar, bass and drums...
There is more to music then just that.Major Labels and indies of suck will always be rejected by creative artists, unless they try not to be some predictable, clonish, and narrow.

marissssa marchantttt, Sunday, 7 August 2005 13:21 (eighteen years ago) link

You will always be rejected by creative and gifted artists..because you are narrowminded, clonish, and not open minded.
You people are just like the record industry people.

How does it feel to be rejected by one of the finest artists in the world today.
? MM doesn't give a flip about people like you.
MM is starting a new life with her fifty thousand dollar studio. She couldn't record in Boston. She is moving to a bigger house with quiet and you will not hear the end results of her.
because you are not encouraging.
I think she will find some drummers and other musicians where she is moving to help her. but you will not have the priviledge of hearing her new music.
You will only hear the same old remakes and reruns of old music and trashy, sappy artists with little imagination.
Of course, if the majors and indies decide to get a book out and become musically educated ..things might change.

Marissa, how does it feel to be possessed by a talent the magnitude of which is so sublime the wannabes on this site can only deride it, like so many jealous dogs barking at a princess parading down a golden street? It must be sweet!

Marissa is a nobody.
She has no status. she is just a woman trying to be a composer. LOL.
This is hoax. I make a bet Marissa didn't write her classical music.
Marissa is probably like all the rest who have husbands who write their music.
There is no such thing as a woman who is a composer.
and women are not good at sports either.
what are they good for? well, Courtney love was working whore.
That is what I would pay a woman for.
Not their music.
Women are worth one thing,
I pay them for their services.
That is all i do.,
women ..I don't take them seriously do you?
Marissa is a hoax. she never existed. There no such thing as a woman who plays instruments like this. I never heard of this before.
Therefore...she is a made up person.
she must have hired men to play on her recordings.
..and she must have made believe she is writing and playing.
Those videos...it was just a man dressed up like a woman, faking it.
there is no such as a woman who is really talented.

Women are nothing special. Men are great at sports, women aren't.
women don't compose music, they don't have the talent.
Men are brilliant, and great. women have LOW LOW status.

Women are nothing.
Period.
I am glad Marissa is not on the net. No one would support her. she is claiming she is a composer.

I have to laugh when I came on here.
Bela Fleck is a high profile guy. He is a man who has big status.
He is a celebrity.
why would a man like Bela Fleck be interested in a nobody with no status like Marissa?
He wouldn't.
Bela fleck clearing never came on here and said that he loved Marissa Marchant.
The man is a big jazz star.
Marissa is nobody.
Anyway, I heard that Bela is dating a well known Bluegrass musician.
bela fleck never had any interest in Marissa's music or Marissa's face.
What man would want something to do with Marissa?
She is making an album called "Sea of Rats."
Point blank. If you are still on here Marissa,
I guarantee you one thing. Bela Fleck doesn't have any interest in you.
and never did.
And you are just a record company reject.
I think you are right Marissa in taking your music down.
No one is goin miss you.

Not only this, Marissa is a reject.
She plays with Rats in her basement.

Marissa was a low brow. Some very very very very low profile woman with NO status at all.
She was clearly insane.
she actually thought Bela was looking at her, I read this somewhere.
Why would Bela stare at Marissa?
He is a famous man.
I think Bela is waaaaaaaay too good for Marissa.
Marissa is at the bottom.
She is very low in status. And Bela is a very high profile man. He is a big status brother. He has no time for little Marissa.
I also think she is crazy.
she is much less talented then Bela Fleck who won many grammies.
Marissa is nothing. I am glad she finally realized this and left us.

Marissa Marchant is a gorgeous woman! She said she was tall too. Why did someone distort her gorgeous face ? These men on here are so intimidated and jealous of Marissa.
There is not one woman as beautiful as she is in Hollywood or the media.
That woman is hot!!!!!!!!!!!
Bela must have no penis. I doubt that he has a woman this good looking or that his wife was this hot.
I think Bela Fleck is most likely intimidated by Marissa too.
What a whimp. I am an Alpha Male.
I just contacted Marissa and with hopes we can someday meet.
I am like this bozos.
It is said that when men can't deal with gorgeous women who are extremely talented, they opt to cut them down and post photos to distort her image. All of you men have no sex drive, and no balls.

Hey, you've all got no balls.
Not one man here is really a man. None of you could ask Marissa Marchant out. None of you can admit that she much hotter then the rest of them.
She's gorgeous. She has a beautiful face.
I 've seen other photos of this woman. She has this nicely rounded figure. What a knockout. She has a gorgeous pair of eyes.
Great lips.
she is stunning.
None of you men are man enough for her and call her crazy because none of you are with beautiful women.
You all have no balls.
You're not Alpha Males.

Men who distort beauty and insult it are pyscho.
These beautiful photos were distorted by an ugly male no doubt.
another male who feels uncomfortable with beautiful women. Marissa was not only hotter then all the women I see on M.T.V she is beautiful looking right now then every woman I see in Hollywood. No woman in hollywood has eyes like this and a face this hot.
She is a knockout. The women in Hollywood look like a sea of dogs.
they look manish, unfeminine and very blah!
I just contacted Marissa like I said.
I'm an Alpha Male, Bela Fleck and Crispin are not.
The other men on this board do not have a gorgeous woman, and insult beautiful and talented women because they are inferior men barking on the side of the street at a beautiful and talented woman.

You know Bela ends his acoustic tour today in Long Island. You know why? He lives in Long Island New York and is now home to practice with the other Trio, the jazz trio.
I received many prank phone calls from Long Island a few month back. The person wouldn't speak to me.
Endless calls. They changed their number when I tried to call them back.
They wouldn't answer the phone.
It went on for three months. This was after I gave my phone number to Bela Fleck. And now I am speaking about this on the net. Because I am angry.
This man is a whimp!
Even if Bela had some issues with me, he should be able to speak about them directly.
I don't respect whimpy men. It is o.k to be shy.
but this is just a symptom of a man who is not mature.
I am going to get rid of this whimp./ The end of the month I will have no phone number that he will ever be able to contact.
Soon, he will have no way of contacting me, because Bela is not man enough to phone me or talk to me like he is a real man.
I am infuriated.
He has a nerve to call me and hang up the phone over and over.
He is the only person that would have my number.
..in long island.
He Bela, you deserve this. You are not a grown man.
You should be able to deal with someone directly, if not, then the net is the only place to speak about it. I would want privacy otherwise. But you don't want to speak directly.
Games.
I don't have alot of respect for you.
I am sick of you.
who do you think you are?
I have taken my website off.
I am changing my email account in about three weeks.
You have three weeks or less to be a man.
Otherwise, who cares about you. There are alot of men out there.
I don't want a whimpy man.
It is a real turn off.
I am about to permanently dump you. I mean it this time.

I just want to be free of the games.
I think Bela might be playing a head game on the net and that he might have posted the first message under his name.
The man is a spineless musician who I don't respect, because he acts like a child, not a grown man.
I have to move on. same thing with Nicolas, he is a spineless man.
Bela has little backbone.
He is weak and frail, and he always tries to please people in the music industry, and doesn't ever make waves.
He is very spineless, cowardly, and he proved this by calling me endlessly on his cellular and hanging up like a little boy.
Bela is a little boy., and I am dumping him, because he is not a real grown up man.

Marissa M, Monday, 8 August 2005 12:25 (eighteen years ago) link

The problem with this thread is that if we simply say Marissa is mad, we're being bad-mannered and abusive, no worse than the people who went to rattle the bars at Bedlam and laugh at the inmates. Because Marissa is obviously quite an accomplished artist, and quite able to come online and express herself, not to mention move house, operate a recording studio, and so on. To call someone who did all that "mad" would be, itself, somewhat abusive. Is Daniel Johnston "mad"? He's a hero to many.

But if we say Marissa is sane, she becomes somewhat abusive, telling us we are "whimps" with no penises, vaunting her own beauty and talent to the skies, and so on. By the normal rules and standards of discourse, anyone doing that in a forum like this one is going to get mercilessly ribbed.

I think what's really interesting here is that we're in a confusing hinterland between those two situations. And that's also where Marissa's music leaves us. It inhabits a place exactly halfway between powerful and silly. Personally, I've always liked these hinterlands, these confused areas, though I have a feeling Marissa would rather not dwell there indefinately. In fact, perhaps it's a blessing that she doesn't acknowledge that she dwells there now.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 8 August 2005 13:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, Forksclovetofu, I must say I giggled a lot at your Basil Wolverton post. It did seem to capture the tone with horrendous acuity, without you having to say a word or look too mean. I notice Marissa seems to respond negatively to relatively minor slights, but find bigger ones curiously affirming, or just ignore them. But I'm heartened that she will end the thread not one iota more or less paranoid and angry and self-believing than she began it, despite all we've said. And that kind of oblivious, unconditional self-belief is (I speak from experience) a tremendously useful quality for an artist to have.

Momus (Momus), Monday, 8 August 2005 13:52 (eighteen years ago) link

The best part of this thread was how many aliases Marissa came up with to both love and hate herself.

Or when Susan co-opted one of my logged-out aliases to make it more surreal then it already was. Extremely surreal.

Thread haters aboud were real though. I mean, sure it took some incredibly weird turns, but most often, at the hands of marissa herself (and her alises). Certainly speaks volumes for the artist/person in question, and speaks for the threads haters.

I'm still a marissa fan by far though - no joke!

I'm positive all the amusement of these threads about Marissa clouded this for me, but they did spur some questions and thoughts which haunt me in my dreams still: she wants to take on a different *stage name* right?
a) Apparantly, these days, she hardly appears on a stage at all
b) Will an 'extreme makeover' be accompanying this new name? I find it hard to believe Madonna - whilst still making music - will be untraceable once she takes on Joe Blow as her new stage name.
c) If in sixty years we're all gone, and this board is solely kept alive by contradicting Marissa-clones, will she be considered the female Syd Barrett?

Yes, I did appear on stage hardly ever, the reason is , I am tired of being put down and abused by other musicians or the people around me.
If you haven't noticed, our society is very comfortable with the bland and boring and ordinary.
Some people on this board have taken over my name Marissa Marchant and won't allow me to post in my name.
They are being mean to me.
This is about control and abuse.
I really believe that people don't want me to perform anywhere.
People kept giving me a hard time and saying they lost my cd's.
When I couldn't get a gig for six months in NYC and couldn't get a date, I realized that MEN are only interested in demeaning and insulting me through ignoring me and my talent or my looks.
Not only have I been told I am not good enough to play at small dives...I have been continually told by men, that I am not good enough for them.
I kept trying to get support and people kept ignoring me.
So I realized, that this is all a powertrip.
..meant to demean people who have talent and to exalt people who don't. when the guy who booked the clubs is a musician and he realized that I was getting alot of attention at the club and people were screaming, he gave me a very difficult time to come back.
Men are mostly in control, and it was very difficult to get bands together. women are not answering my ads. They to feel powerless, demeaned and intimidated by men putting them down all the time.
I don't feel that way. But female instrumentalist ..do not answer ads hardly at all for any instruments.
I mean HARDLy ever. Men are demeaning women so much, they don't feel hopeful about getting acceptance. That means their talent has been demeaned by so many men, that they don't call to try to get gigs.
Women often don't feel that good about themselves and don't support other women.
That is why you see so many women playing with men.
Women feel that their sex is meaningless and powerless without the help of men.
More or less. Even the lilth fair women, they all rely on men to back them up.
This is not right.
It means that something isn't right with men in their minds.
I believe that something is very wrong with most men's minds.
I am not the woman who feels this way./
They are into control. I am sure that a man keeps taking my name away from me.
Men are into control.
sick.
crazy.
I don't want to be rejected by men anymore.
I don't want to be at their mercy for acceptance, as they demean and abuse me and tell me that I am nothing. They have demeaned alot of women for thousands of years.
I have my own studio. If I ever get married or something or have a boyfriend, which I have never had, I may give concerts on my lawn or someone else's lawn. Men have been extremely unfriendly and abusive.
for years.
It is no wonder that the radio is mostly men playing.
or men playing for women.
Men don't like women who can arrange and write for themselves.
they don't like women who know alot about music.
And my music is very hard to play.
Men always need to be stars.
Norah Jones's husband writes almost every song and other men write her music. That is why she was signed. They love it when women look so sweet and don't write the music.
so I have given up on MANs world. I have created my own world on the net.
I don't have to go out and perform.
Men don't want me too. Just like they don't want to date me.
I have never had a boyfriend. And I have liked so many men.
They never want anything to do with me, once they find out about my music.
so I stay alone.
They like women who are not doing something much with their minds.
but I know that they'll be some acceptance for me out there. I am sick of being insulted by men.
I once played a gig in NYC ..the MC. ..he introduced me as Marissa MarSHIT.
and I didn't know the guy.
Men talk loudly in front of me while I was playing once.
I said..would you like to come up here and play?
the people were in shock that I spoke to a rude man this way.
Women stick up for rude males.
It is all so sad.
but there are nice men...just ..they are powerless..
the ones with power are not nice to women.
Alot of major labels know I am very good at improv..and they have no singers who are very good at improv...and they don't want to make women look too good.

marissa marchantt, Monday, 8 August 2005 23:46 (eighteen years ago) link

I have performed a decent amount in New YOrk and realize that it was a good ol boys club. And alot of men ignored me and insulted me and glorified in Men.
Not all though, but I felt very uncomfortable with men, because they talk alot about what women look like and not the music.
they also seemed to always act like what I do is meaningless next to someone else.
I have found men unfriendly and rude most of my life. Well, most men.
Nicolas Quemener is an example. I complimented this man left and right an advertised their band for years on my site.
He just went on I love music board and posted that fake cd cover, Mer Des Rats..Sea of Rats as a joke.
He thinks it is funny. and he also has a men's club. they love to play music with young girls over there in france. old men with young young girls on stage..and they don't allow older women to play.
Nicolas is now playing with a thirteen year old girl and making fun of me on the net as he plays with all men.
Men seem juvenile.
Men don't know how to be supportive of women's talent for the most part.
I wish more women answered my ads when looking for instrumentalists.
It makes me upset to know that so many women have such little self confidence and that men are beating them down so much that they don't go out and show what they can do.
It is sad. Alot of great musicians who are women, stay home alone and play for their walls.

marissa marchantt, Monday, 8 August 2005 23:57 (eighteen years ago) link

what it looks like from many movies and many websites I saw in france, You have alot of old men on stage..
and older men are allowed to be gray and wrinkled on stage, but the women are not allowed on stage passed a certain age.
The men are playing and singing with women who are twenty years younger then themselves.
I have been playing for awhile..but never was a go getter to go out and perform.
I felt demeaned and insulted by my peers as a teenager..and there wasn't any support for what I was doing hardly at all, not from my family or friends. Once in a while I had a good friend.
but all in all, I felt that people didn't want me to succeed and I felt alot of oppressed and hosility coming from men and women and my family.
I am young and I look just like my photos. I am not old and could get gigs..but even if I were old, I should be able to get gigs.
But men are giving me a hard time and women are too.
I am sure I am not the only one who is receiving a hard time.
People are no longer impressed by raw talent.

marissa marchantt, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:04 (eighteen years ago) link

I played alot of writers nights. The MC for the writer's nights would introduce me as "weird."
Crispin Glover a very under-rated talent is considered 'weird' not talented in many people's opinion. It is interesting that now the gifted and artistically talented are considered weird, not gifted.

Google search me, the word weird is coming up.
I am sick of this BS.

marissa marchantt, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:07 (eighteen years ago) link

some excellent posts. i think your statements are very very true particularly for the east coast which is hindered by a huge good 'ol boys network and tradition. There, women are allowed creative expression but only if they work off of traditions of the past, usually created by men. It is rare to find support for someone who wants to do original explorative work that does not rely heavily on past formats-you will come up against a lot of derision. It is different creatively for women (and everyone) on the west coast and in parts of europe. The mindset is completely different. Marrissa, I wish you the best of luck and truly admire your fortitude.

Not only is almost every movie promoting very young women with older men, the folk festivals in france are promoting very young girls on stage with old men.
this is another sickness.

Thankyou Susan.

yes, there's a lot of sexism in this world everywhere.

also wherever you go, you will find that the average person would rather eat buckets of shit than hold an opinion counter to others. it is much more important for most people to get acceptance than to express their individuality, even if it completely compromises their minds and their dreaming. you'll see that everyhwere in life, even on ILM! (gasp?) but as you speak out, you'll find people who are like-minded, who maybe could not say what you are saying on their own. its obviously a very hard thing to blaze your own (at the moment) lonely trail, but sounds like you're somewhat resolved that in the end its worth it.

ALL HAIL LADY MARRISSA!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:30 (eighteen years ago) link

also weird is just another word for different. everything is weird that is different, until it reaches some level of acceptance or exposure... and then its normal or cool. right now people may be more comfortable acknowledging your weirdness rather than your innovation. but i can understand the frustration with that label. it is alienating. perhaps you can try "owning" it to some degree so when people allude to your strangeness/weirdness you just hear innovative. if it is all getting too much, perhaps a name change would be helfpul. everyone needs/deserves some level of acceptance and you're drive for that (w/o having to compromise too much etc.) is totally understandable.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:51 (eighteen years ago) link

thankyou susan for that comment.
/that was inspiring indeed.
Amazing, that no other comment on these boards was as mature and well written.
and you are a woman.
There are mature men, but it seems it is not coming out that often for some reason.
I am thankful for Nicolas and his friends for putting that cd cover together with myself and Crispin Glover.
He might be a man, but I think I should send this to him and a fan letter saying that we are also like-minded. He rejects parts. He doesn't just act for money.
He is very independent minded.
I should not have insulted him by saying that he isn't the most handsome man in every way.
He is attractive. but I am not interested in him as a man, just as an actor.
I respect men if they are talented, the way that men should respect women, and not be obsessed with their looks.
Not everything is sexual. And I shouldnt be garning the attention of just men.
I have tried to connect with women.
some women are very nice.
just like men.
I do wish that women would have been out there answering my ads in newspapers when I was seaching for musicians.
If women start playing music with one another, men start calling them lesbian.
If men play music together all the time, no one calls them gay.
Strange.
I don't care what sex is playing, as long as the person is talented and nice.
I have met some very nice men, but it is very rare to meet an enlightened man. They do exist.
Norway is cool. I might go an promote myself there. They are very accepting of women.
Like I said, if the Google seach changes and people somehow understand that if positive things are coming up under the name Marissa Marchant instead of alot of negativity, then I will put my site back up...good night all.
bye susan.

go to Norway, where they give out Pulitzer Prizes to women and they also just gave another nobel prize to a female lawyer in Iran.
They gave a woman from Austria a Pulitzer prize ..just resently for her incredible abilities at writing.
Norway is the leading country in the world in terms of open-mindedness, and progressive thinking.
They are pro-women, if you are not, go to an Iranian board.

marissa marchantt, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Pulitzer prizes are have more validity, then Grammy awards, especially these days.
The people of Norway should try to enlighten the rest of the world in their outlook on equality between the sexes.
Norway looks down on countries that don't respect women.
And Norway is giving awards to women for their minds.
I do not have feelings for Crispin Glover, but I like men who are sensitive and gifted in acting, just like I like women who are great actresses. I would love to write fan letter to a women as well,
but it is harder to find women that are blowing me away in acting and music right now...because men are so obsessed with having every women as girlfriend booty instead of a great actress or great musician.,
I wrote Lui Fang a nice letter.
when I find women who are working hard, I encourage them.
Even when it isn't music.

Men are being mocked as well. Crispin Glover is an independent minded actor, author and he is being insulted by alot of people, yet has a cult following. It is very sad and pathetic that one of the most talented actors of our time is being called , crazy and pyscho, instead of appreciated for his talent. People are also putting him down.
Any sensitive artist is considered to be pyscho by our over macho-focused society.

read this message that was found on Crispin Hellion Glover's site.
They mention that he is being mocked.
He is a very high-level talent. the first time I saw him, I was blown away. back to the future, with Micheal j. fox. He was the star of the show. ..mesmorizing. I didn't think about any other actor in that film after it was over, just his performance. He was very fantastic.
He stood out.

:::
Welcome to The Crispin Corner, a fan site dedicated to the tenaciously talented Crispin Hellion Glover. The main purpose of this site is to provide a wealth of information to whomever may want it, regarding Mr. Glover's films, books, acting career and other artistic endeavors. This site also seeks to represent Crispin as the wildly insightful and progressive person he is, without focusing or promoting any kind of social stigmas that usually accompany his constant (and admirable) refusal to conform to the standard narrow ways of thinking. His genius is not some sort of novelty to me, so whenever possible I limit the amount of materials that seek to do his work injustice by clinging to the belief that it's "weird" or "psycho". I'm of the belief that any honest and pure pursuit of ideas and enlightenment is noble, and that the continued efforts to bring that idea to others is of even greater nobility, and that people don't credit Mr. Glover with this often enough. So regardless of how other sites operate, this one simply seeks to reverently share with others what has helped widen my own perspectives. This site has been up for just about two years, and I'd like to thank all of the wonderful fans who have contributed in any way, even those who are just stopping by to show their admiration for Crispin Glover. The navigation is simple, located directly above this opening statement. This site was created March 17, 2003.

I have no idea who Marissa Marchant is, but I do know that Michael J. Fox was incredible in Back to the Future during the scene where he invented rock 'n' roll at the high school dance. Yes, Crispin was amazing, but Fox generated the biggest laugh of the movie when he dove into that Henrix-inspired guitar tirade while the white audience and Black backing band stood there in stone-face disbelief, and Fox finally opened his eyes and noticed what was going on. Great scene. Back to the Future is just awesome all around: actors, story, script, etc. -Justin

But I could sense that Crispin Glover is a genius and a higher level actor.
and he is.
Just because someone is not as well known, doesn't mean they are not more gifted then someone who is very well known.
I don't want to insult Micheal j, as I think he is very talented and enjoyable.
indeed.
Crispin Glover is a genius.
and that is why he is not as popular . there are many brilliant people who play in obscure movies and they are much more talented then the bigger stars right now.
That is because our society can't think for themselves.
they allow big money to think for them.
There are people acting down your street who may be an extremely talented actor, or something else. You are soooooo media driven. Why is that?
Why are media driven?

Hey Bela, if you are really on this thread. It is not a good idea to speak to me like this.
It is not very personal, and not very warm, because I am not sure if it is you or not.
I am leaving the 29th of this month and moving. My computer will be packed. I am changing my phone number. I want to start new.
I apologize for insulting Micheal J, and comparing him to someone who is extremely talented.
I think Micheal J Fox is very talented.
but not extremely talented.
I have seen very high level actors, and actresses and there are almost no one in hollywood acting on a very high level.
I could barely find clothing in the store today. I feel so sorry for people today. they are so lost.
they look so ignorant, so lost and without substance.
Why follow the media?
Crispin has a cult following. Maybe he isn't as well known, like Bela isn't as well known, but they both have big followings .
Not very well-known to everyone.
But Bela, I am not going to talk about you like you are a genius on here. You treat me like nothing. This is not treating me like anything as far as I am concerned. NO one believes that you are here.
Do you blame them?
I don't believe you are here for real.
I make a bet on 29th, I will leave, change my number, email..and start a new life and you will not blink an eye, and you will NOT call or contact me.
I just feel it. I am used to be alone, so much so, that I can't imagine anything else.
I live for my music ..I write and think about it every day.
I may not record that much..because of poor circumstances. but that is all changing..soon...the house that I am moving into is absolutely great!
perfect for what I am doing...and not totally isolated from the world..but big, nice and near a big lake...
Right now I don't live like trash, and I intend to do well with my music with or without you bela.
I am not waiting with baited breath. I really don't expect that this will turn out to be anything.
I am really planning on leaving the name Marissa Marchant behind and I am thinking of legally changing my name.
I don't like the name Marissa Marchant anyway.
I think this is very cold, and a cold way of communicating with someone if it is really you. This coldness if something that sends red flags up in my mind.
you don't know me.
and I don't think it is right to compare talent on the net...but I think that people should respect and recognize talent not just because the name is bigger.

WTF dude? the solo was VAN HALEN-inspired. Far more 80's and more white. He even plays a tape called "VAN HALEN" to wake up George McFly.

Are you blind? Every onstage move was inspired by Hendrix: behind the back guitar playing, crawling across the floor, kicking over the amp, etc. That is sooooo Hendrix. Eddie didn't do any of that shit.
