Mary, wait 'til they start asking if you have all those reference books memorized. Then drench them in hot gravy.

Heh. We ate dinner now he is telling a story about geese. Let's get through dessert then I can hide in my room claiming to do "homework."

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 November 2005 21:54 (eighteen years ago) link

It was suggested that teh Florida woman who slept with her student should receive the death penalty.

The topic inadvertently turned to Mexicans from Geese. How to classify them as indigenous. But then who would run the Walmart.

?????

LOL WTF

The colonel sounds awesome! you should lighten up! fuck bright eyes!

howell huser (chaki), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:26 (eighteen years ago) link

I've been to Wal-Mart twice already today--my two visits for the year--and I didn't see any geese.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Ha. I made it through and am safely with Conor, Chaki! Does anyone want to enter a fake marriage with me so that I can orchestrate my own painfully awkward family dinners?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh I'm full. My brother-in-law made fun of my piled-up plate again this year. (I just don't like getting up for seconds.)

Stephen, did you see the video of the turky fryer fires on boing boing today?

I'm going to see a movie this evening- most of my day was nice & quiet. I picked up some cranberry sauce at the grocery store and baked two pumpkin pies this morning. So my Thanksgiving lunch with my doggie was cranberry sauce, a nice salad with avocado, and a slice of pumpkin pie. Yum.

Turkey fires! http://www.boingboing.net/2005/11/23/firefighter_tests_tu.html

lyra (lyra), Friday, 25 November 2005 00:01 (eighteen years ago) link

Lyra, those are great! I sent 'em to my dad when he first suggested this frying misadventure, but since he's a scientist the possibility of fire only made it more appealing.

we talked about meth all throughout dinner

and my aunt talked about people dying in freak accidents in nebraska

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 25 November 2005 01:30 (eighteen years ago) link

We just had a Griswold-worthy dinner. My mom didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or decapitate everyone in striking distance. My 90-year-old grandfather threatened to "punch that guy right in the face next time I see him" -- "that guy" being the one who recommended the horrific restaurant we ate at. My father nearly choked when I said "I swear to God we're eating Swanson turkey." I guess we should have known things were going to be bad when we walked into the restaurant and the sign said "Dress Code Enforced: After 6, men must wear shirts with sleeves." Oh, and the first waitress I saw had a ginormous gauze patch above her eye and was exhaling cigarette smoke out her nose when she asked for our name.

got home from work and just put some green beans in the oven.
my roommate has prepared a fantastic feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and, yes, sweet potatoes w/ marshmallows on top.
thanksgiving at 1 am with roommate >>>> crazy insane family thanksgiving!

I made a vegetarian b'steeya today. It went over REALLY well. I'd never made it before, or indeed anything with phyllo dough...

my big thanksgiving tour-de-force last year was a risotto with duck meat and porcini mushrooms. one of the most expensive dishes i've ever prepared, but the crowd went wild so it was totally worth it.

i was so nauseous all day yesterday, i didn't eat a thing, but i just made up for it. now i think tomorrow will be another day for fasting...

It's all just as good the next day, piled up between two pieces of bread. I have eaten the proof!

mmm that sounds good. It might get really soggy though--maybe stick more bread on top, or even lasagne sheets, and turn the whole thing upside down partway through?

nope, it was awesome. the potatoes and chickpeas absorbed all the liquid but didn't get mushy at all. i hate to brag but damn i'm good, and if thanksgiving was a gun i'd be clint eastwood

and then up at 6 a.m. to get late registration at circuit city for $7.00

T.O. Sourpuss, Friday, 25 November 2005 19:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I did not have turkey yesterday, but today I cooked for myself for the first time in a long time - chicken and asparagus - and it was good!

youn, Friday, 25 November 2005 20:13 (eighteen years ago) link

We grilled duck quarters and my sister's fiance brought a STUDENT HAM. That's a HAM prepared by STUDENTS. We referred to it as the "snack ham". And now we all say "d'oh". And it still smells like duck in the garage. Maybe I should've took the grill all the way out to the DRIVEWAY. Whatever, the boy is going to bring me another beer.

chicken and asparagus

Please say it was preserved asparagus because in no part of the northern hemisphere is asparagus in season right now. Ai freighted vegtables are worse than patio heaters.
