what I mean about 77 figuring it out is that just because it is serket cluhbaous does not mean it is a place for engaging in disapproved behavior. every time we try that it turns into epic fail, and I don't think that was the point of the secret board function in the first place.

of course how could a board called "moderator discussion" be anything but solid meta shit-talking but we don't even use that.

One of the pics that HH posted on that thread, it took me ages to find where he'd got it from. It wasn't just me he pulled that kind of shit on either, you know? Plus, he got asked to cut it out repeatedly, and didn't.

Likewise the s.e.o. spammer thing that he kept doing on HTML playground for ages, he got repeatedly asked/told to quit, but he wouldn't fucking leave it alone. Weird, weird dude.

don't use ILX to sit and trade gossip about other posters, former posters, speculation re: sex lives, criminal records, or other personal details and rumormongering. Use AIM or IdeaTree or whatever but keep it off these boards. When I or another moderator remind you of this for the umpteenth fucking time (kind of like we had to do with Heave Ho when he posted your ex-girlfriend's pics from flickr, or Pash's family portraits, or stalked jergins, etc.) don't play fucking dumb.

Tom is completely, 100% on the money here. Some of the more recent ocd gossip/scandal-mongering (to pinch a phrase from jhoshea) has been a bit OTT to say the least, especially w/r/2 people who don't even post here anymore. Some of it has actually creeped me out somewhat.

im of the opinion that tom has been overly heavy handed in his war on gossip.

i absolutely respect his right (and everyones) to object to gossip abt his own personal life. but hes been flying into misanthropic rage at the slightest hint of any scandal-tracking at all. which in a lot of forms isnt really gossip and certainly isnt malicious. im not sure why some cant come to grips w/the reality that in every community a certain amount of energy will be expended towards keeping track of whats going on socially. yr never going to have some rarefied situation thats completely abt ideas.

tom should consider easing back w/his critique and picking his spots more carefully. banning those nice young ringsnap men was just inexcusable. might want to think abt relinquishing the modship altogether - just for sanity sake. if its not enjoyable - if yr starting to take this shit too serious - whats the point?

i like tom more as a revolutionary than a despot.

I agree that my temp ban on those two was probably a step too far but I'll reiterate that it was a temp ban and over a frickin' weekend even so the butthurtedness here still strikes me as also OTT

it mainly came about because AFAIC everybody involved ought to know by now that meta rumor mongering is not approved and am quite sick and tired of people claiming to not have any understanding whatsoever of this or what it could possibly mean

and I could care less abt any gossip about my own personal life TBH since everybody basically knows or thinks they know the whole story anyway. Shit was on blogs. It's the fact that we have lost a laundry list of reasonably innocent, perfectly less-annoying-than-average posters because chatter about their IRL bidness started showing up here and/or they started getting harassed about IRL perceived drama, it's entirely unpleasant for everyone (and yes I've been guilty myself I'm not claiming to be a frickin' paragon here)

lastly I'm not the only mod and I do this strictly at the behest of stet and pash, so really pash's word upstairs is basically the last one on this subject

A bunch of the gossip/scandal-mongering recently has started to make me feel really uncomfortable. I've got to wonder if some of you guys realise just how this looks from the outside. I mean, I took a look at that thread that Tom deleted, and among the entries in Roxy's ideatree was a bunch of shit about this or that poster being embroiled in one of the "canonical ilx scandals", or embroiled in lunagate, then later on, this or that poster also being described as "creepy". There's a bit of a massive fucking irony there, don't you think? You might want to consider that I've been posting here for 7yrs, that I sort of know some of these ppl IRL, that I used to be on AIM a lot back in the day, nevertheless, a couple of pieces of gossip I've seen raked up in the last few weeks are news to me. Not very classy, eh.
