Ok but how do you know there’s a Casas thread and not an Orioles thread when I see the Orioles one in sna all the time
― half the population ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (gyac), Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:08 (ten months ago) link
Because the first gets posted on about twice as often as the second? Because I'm often at work when posting and my attention is divided? The bigger question to me is, why the fuck would you even care? I wasn't "complaining" about the lack of a new Orioles thread, just suggesting (before you pointed it out in that special way of yours) that someone start one.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:15 (ten months ago) link
been a while since I've seen anyone get this heated about the Baltimore Orioles
― frogbs, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:24 (ten months ago) link
Clemenza, you need to stop with this unprovoked shit. I posted a hr I thought was great cos other people who aren’t regulars to the other threads might like seeing it. If you didn’t like my post because not enough people are getting excited about Arráez, I don’t know what I should do with that, or indeed that it’s a problem. I’m not actually the only poster on ILB. Either way, cut it out, I’m sick of it. I’m here to post about the things I love about this game. I don’t care if they’re not the same things as you.Anyway, here’s Brayan “baby Pedro” Bello carving through a lineup with his special changeup that Pedro taught him. 💛💛💛

You're sick of it? Join the club. Just to highlight your hypocrisy, I'm pointing out that you're doing *exactly* the same thing you--"unprovoked"--whined about me doing a few weeks ago.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:28 (ten months ago) link
If you didn’t like my post because not enough people are getting excited about Arráez
That's pretty funny. I've been posting away here for ~15 years about things that interest me, with no real concern about whether it's of interest to anyone else. Arráez is having an incredible year, and I will continue to post about him. (I will start a separate thread in the next few days.) I'll have to try hard to not get distracted by the future superstar with the .215/.315/.395 slash line, but try I will.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:32 (ten months ago) link
Imagine not understanding how one bad month impacts a batting average. 🫣
― half the population ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (gyac), Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:39 (ten months ago) link
clemenza you’ve sure got a funny way of showing you do not like thread policing
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:44 (ten months ago) link
To underscore how annoying it is by doing exactly the same thing? Seems like a normal thing to do.
Sorry, I just don't see a future superstar in Casas. He's a 23-year-old first baseman, good-not-great minor league numbers, doing what he's doing in June. I know he'll get better, but I'm not seeing Frank Thomas.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:54 (ten months ago) link
And don't forget, gyac--whereas you have to deal with me, I have to deal with you + your amen corner.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:55 (ten months ago) link
Not everyone just looks at the batting average to evaluate a player, sorry if this offends, but it’s 2023 and there are advanced stats now. I don’t care if you are upset by that thread being bumped that often, or the title. Nor do I require Bill James to sign off on something before I decide if I’m allowed to like it, but if I did…
Despite all the merde that happened to the Red Sox in Tampa, Tristan Casas' 15-pitch at bat was REALLY something to see. Honestly, it changed my view of him. I was skeptical about him before, but I'm a believer now.— Bill James Online (@billjamesonline) April 14, 2023
― half the population ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (gyac), Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:56 (ten months ago) link
Did I post just his BA? Think I added the two most important measures of a player, his OBA and SP. But thanks for the heads-up on advanced stats.
Date of James tweet (which I did see at the time): April 13.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 14:58 (ten months ago) link
Yeah, April was his first month of the season which has the low numbers dragging down all the others since.
― half the population ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (gyac), Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:00 (ten months ago) link
Again, just bemused by the ever-moving goalposts. I was counselled a couple of weeks ago by one of your acolytes to not get too excited about Arráez; gushing every other day about Casas, though, perfectly okay.
You're right on Casas: looked at his numbers since May 1, and they are better -- .264/.367/.456.
If your BA thing is directed at Arráez, his OBP is also stellar, and he's almost slugging .500. And most of all--maybe the single most important thing a batter can do--he's not making outs.
Anyway, here is my heartfelt suggestion: from this point forward, neither of us ever comments on something the other person posts. I would be very happy with that arrangement.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:05 (ten months ago) link
And, if we can agree to that, let me say that I swear--on the souls of my grandchildren--that I will not be the one to break the peace that we have made here today..
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:09 (ten months ago) link
My “acolytes” are my friends, we talk about baseball on WhatsApp and irl, I have said repeatedly to them exactly how excited I’ve been to get into the game and have a new interest, and that I love them all for encouraging me in it and explaining things to me.I have zero beef with Arráez but I am a lifelong “don’t jinx it!” person. If he finishes the season at or close to .400, then that’s an incredible achievement, but there’s a lot of season left and the Mariners dropped his avg by .20 when he ran into their pitchers. That’s all. You can be excited all you want. Just don’t get mad at me for posting about players and plays I like.
― half the population ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (gyac), Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:13 (ten months ago) link
And the agreement? Can we can put that in full effect right now?
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:15 (ten months ago) link

― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:17 (ten months ago) link
Tracer: explain to me how the Baltimore comment from three weeks ago was any less "out of nowhere" than mine today? Please, map that out for me.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:18 (ten months ago) link
it's okay to stop whenever you want
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 15:20 (ten months ago) link
If you say silly things, I will point them out. Stop? I think I outlined a very clear arrangement above where we could stop forever. Thus far, no response.

cubs have swept the pirates in two separate series this month. that plus an 11-game winning streak for the reds have jumbled up the nl central standings again
― na (NA), Wednesday, 21 June 2023 19:29 (ten months ago) link
Yeah they’re 8-2 in their last ten. They would have swept the Orioles as well but they threw away the last game of that series because Taillon had another horrible start and they fucked themselves with risp.

The most impressive thing about this improbable streak by the Reds, I'd say, is that it's now longer than anything the mid-'70s teams put together.

sheehan:
The baseball season has to be more about the journey than the destination, more than just a seven-month slog to make one team’s fans happy and 29 teams’ fans mad. The Pirates’ hot start, the A’s seven-game winning streak, the Luis Arraez chase for .400, the Marlins winning 12 one-run games in a row, and yes, the Reds being in first place in late June...it’s all part of the ride, even if none of it lasts. There’s more to baseball than rings and parades, more to baseball fandom than winning the World Series. There’s the ride, and right now, the ride is amazing.

― Michael F Gill, Friday, 23 June 2023 22:42 (ten months ago) link
Great quote Tracer. As a Dodgers supporter it is vindicating that the world ignores the Dbacks (yes this is what toxic fandom looks like). Unbelievable that they just won’t lose. NLwest far from over though, going to be a great race between the Dodgers/Dbacks/Giants going into the second half.
