ILM Ballot Polls for 2020 and beyond -- the ordering, timing, "I would have voted if I'd known about it," etc

I’m not running J Dilla, if anyone wants that one.

You do a great job of upkeep on this. The list is so insanely long now, I'd have something like a one-month window where people can check in and say "Yes, I still want to do this," and if you don't hear from someone, or they say they've lost interest, drop that from the list. You can delete me for Wussy, for instance--there wouldn't have been much interest in the first place, and by now there'd be almost none. I'd like to the Canadian poll, any time starting in March, and that's it.

I'm hesitant on removing anything from the list, unless asked by the original poster asking to be put in the queue but do understand the concern. I think you asked me to remove Wussy before but forgot. I will removed that from the list along with Chris L request.

Austin, I hear you and that poll will be a lot of fun but I'm on board for Super Furry Animals next as that one is in such high demand and I have put it off for too long. It will be done this year.

Was thinking about this, and it feels way too massive to tackle. How would people feel about a female-only country poll? If there's interest, I think I have time to run it but would need to get it done before the last week of March or wait until later in the year.

Would love to see the Herbie and Aphex polls this year, but it's probably going to be 2027 at this rate

I mean, is there any percentage in keeping up a rigorous schedule at this point? I feel like unless it’s like there’s a chance 2 artist polls will have significant overlap it’s not gonna harm either one, and more often than not there’s no poll running at all. I’d say if you’re up for running a poll go for it and fuck the schedule, a remnant of a bygone era.

polls happen irregularly enough now that i don't see the point in keeping a list of reservations when there's some that have been there for years and years - originally there were so many people who wanted to run polls that it made sense to have a schedule, but now we have the opposite problem. if someone wants to say 'i want to run X poll sometime in the next few months' then that's good but we probably don't need anything more than that.

i like the idea of a Canuk tunes poll. it would be interesting to see how non Canadians view the stuff Canada has pumped out (not always penetrating far beyond our boarders).

and if a NIN poll ever happens i'd be glad to help out with images.

I think Serge Gainsbourg works better for me as a listening thread rather than a poll.

Canterbury Scene I'm still up for, but don't have time right now. May do later in the year.

(xpost) I hit my 50-day limit on supply teaching at the end of February, so I'd be ready to start a Canadian poll later next week. But if someone else has been waiting for a gap, you go ahead.

I can probably start the Aphex Twin voting thread but actual results will probably take a while - possibly may-june. So maybe I can keep the voting open for a month or more lol.

If not I can start the vote thread around May.

Still very broad. Howzabout 1950-69 or 1970-89. A lot of fun to be had there.

Not opposed at all, JF, just more passionate about the idea of a Women In Country poll. If more than a couple people say they'd vote, I'll start next week with the goal of a rollout the third week of March.

I'd certainly participate in a Canadian songs poll, but I'd be concerned that, with a relatively small number of voters with wide-ranging tastes, it might end up atomized - dozens and dozens of single votes for interesting artists from 70 years from all ends of the country. On the other hand, if we impose a limitation (such as "only underrated songs" or only from a certain time period), that's probably going to further limit the amount of ballots that could come in. So, a conundrum.

So a poll where we can vote for the complete works of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Carli Rae Jepsen, Rush, Grimes, Feist, Shania Twain, deadmau5, Michael Bublé AND Drake?

Plus Oscar Peterson, Dream Warriors, Deja Voodoo, Skinny Puppy, Anne Murray, New Pornographers, Martha and the Muffins, Tanya Tagaq, Harmonium, Triumph, Gilles Vigneault, AND the Rankin Family!

And Organized Rhyme.

I think there's a wealth of stuff for a Canadian poll. (Though I'll admit to being at least a decade out of touch.) I'd try to gently suggest that voters limit themselves to one or two Neil/Joni songs--that would be the biggest danger if left unchecked, I think, that it becomes Neil vs. Joni--but, obviously, vote for whatever you want.

Or Neil/Joni/Carly Rae Jepsen--she seems to be popular around here.

i'm not in a position to tell ppl what is canadian and what isn't, but for myself there's a difference between those, like neil and joni, who decamped to california 50 years ago, and those, like the hip/sloan/~RUSH~, who did not
