10. FUTURE SOUNDS OF LONDON - EVERYTHING EVER (except "papua new guinea")

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Mo'Wax Artists Reunion = "Smug-Fest"?

That sounds about right....

jsoulja (jsoulja), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:08 (nineteen years ago) link

9. FSOL - Papua New Guinea

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:08 (nineteen years ago) link

8. suck my cock, lee

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:08 (nineteen years ago) link

pole - 1
warp: 1992-present

Them's fighting words.

Also, Come With Us is genius. And while Geogaddi may be better, MHTRTC is also essential. It's not just about "Roygbiv". I mean "Turquoise Hexagon Sun", "Kaini Industries", "Happy Cycling", "Aquarius", . . .

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:08 (nineteen years ago) link

7. Your place or mine?

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:09 (nineteen years ago) link

6. Strongo's cock

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:09 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, overrated by your mom

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Although the rare 12" MOW remix of his balls is classic.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Am I at all right in guessing that not-dancefloor-oriented = overrated for some posters?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:10 (nineteen years ago) link

No, no. Judges also overrule any appearance by "Dead Cities" on this list.....

jsoulja (jsoulja), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:10 (nineteen years ago) link

She's a naive Catholic school girl, man, give her a break.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:10 (nineteen years ago) link

5. dntel - the one with the ambulance on the cover

4. prefuse73 - something something vocal uprock narratives

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:11 (nineteen years ago) link

3. THE MOTHERFUCKING POSTAL SERVICE

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:11 (nineteen years ago) link

No, Dead Cities belongs here, though not the Lifeforms EP.

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:12 (nineteen years ago) link

THE RACE FOR NUMBER ONE IS ON; WHAT HAVE THE BOYS BEEN SAVING??!!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:12 (nineteen years ago) link

1; Kompakt. All of it.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

That was premature.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

2. Massive Attack Blue Lines

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

We can make Outkast "electronic" if we try.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

oooooh Alex!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

1. portishead - dummy

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Maybe jess is right and it's the Englishman in me that can't take some of these posts.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I just put on Sub Rosa vs Kompakt to spite you. (5 xposts)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I was thinking "Blue Lines" might be a Top 5....

jsoulja (jsoulja), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

blue lines should really be number one

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:15 (nineteen years ago) link

1. portishead - dummy

AARRGH.

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Actually, I think Dummy was spot on. And I like some of Dummy.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh wait, jess is right.

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I was hoping for a stunning more overrated last second record to beat it, jess.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I actually agree about Blue Lines though. Mezzanine is a masterpiece but BL gets so dull, esp that 'hymn' at the end. Dummy, however, = undisputably classic. "Wandering Star" is great.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

...but the only Portishead album to qualify here would be the live one, because the atmosphere at Roseland was just so......Ikea.

.....and don't say "like their music"!

jsoulja (jsoulja), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

okay, i'll start you off..

K.....

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

...i.....

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Dummy!?!? B-b-b-b-but

noodle vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:17 (nineteen years ago) link

-1. Global Communication - 76:14

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:17 (nineteen years ago) link

...d...oh, i give up.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Music is appalling when you really think about it.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:19 (nineteen years ago) link

the only thing i hate about 'Dummy' is the ORDER - i always listened to it this way:

Mysterons
Sour Times
Strangers
It Could Be Sweet
It's A Fire
Numb
Biscuit
Pedestal
Roads
Glory Box

makes more sense afaiac

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:21 (nineteen years ago) link

the eponymous sophomore is kinda under-rated actually

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Don't tell me you don't listen to "Wandering Star"...

otm mark w/ s/t though

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:23 (nineteen years ago) link

(i kind of feel like naming stereolab in tom's absence, but "emperor tomato ketchup" started sounding great to me a couple months ago)

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:28 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't mind Jess including Dummy because it probably is shitty "electronic" music (if great pop).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:29 (nineteen years ago) link

and while I think the follow-up was overrated at the time, I think there's some cool shit on that. For some reason it makes me imagine a black-and-white video of the Wu-Tang chopping off heads with those scythes.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:30 (nineteen years ago) link

You do know that "Elysium" is Geoff Barrow's not so veiled tribute to the RZA?

Lazer Guided Mellow Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:32 (nineteen years ago) link

that might explain where I started to associate the two together. Actually, I think it was more about how the album sounded like reviews of Wu solo albums I was reading at the time.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Exit Planet Dust
Endless Summer
As Heard On Radio Soulwax pt 2

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Junior Boys-Last Exit

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:37 (nineteen years ago) link

I'n surprised nobody mentioned Photek.

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Nobody better be hatin' on Modus Operandi, y'hear?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 3 June 2004 22:43 (nineteen years ago) link
