I mean, I look to the Ryan Adams thing. While I still don't think he's had the full reckoning he deserves, it was very refreshing to see that even when he tried to come back with a new album, it was met with complete silence from almost every major publication. I feel like that's why it is important to keep these stories out in the public eye, eventually it will hit a critical mass.

I remember reading some Rolling Stone profile of him back in ... 2015? Anyway, it was packed with enough self-consciously shocking stuff that it came off pretty enabling. Like, lol, that Manson, what a weirdo rock star, with his canister of Zyklon B, his creepily specific sexual demands and declaration that "anything can be crotchless if you carry a knife." He's so subversive, maaaan, just hiding in plain sight.

A band called McCafferty, who have only been mentioned once on ilxor on a rolling emo thread, has an abusive frontman. Many of the original members have just left the band. The google doc below contains many screenshots of social media posts and text chains. I get the feeling that this band is not big enough that the abuse will ever get any actual media attention.

Yeah Burger Records and all related bands have always sucked & rubbed me the wrong way, though that was always for aesthetic reasons I can't say I was particularly surprised when victims where coming forward with tales of abuse.

White people cosplaying as 60s-era garage pop musicians was cute for a few years, 2009-2010 or so. That it went on for another decade is truly bizarre and pathetic to me— my empathy and solidarity, as ever, with the survivors, but the whole thing has been creepy and weird since its nascent stages.

I follow him on Twitter and he's talked about getting sober in recent memory. Wonder if that had something to do with it.

Between Har Mar and Rhye, it really seems like there is some kind of almost pathological thread in between being a white dork who makes R&B

the whole schtick especially early was way more edgy, almost assaultive. i think i saw one of his first shows by chance, he was opening for Trans Am and Arcwelder (those were the type of shows he was getting because in those days he was "the guy from Calvin Krime"), but yeah he came out in his underwear and only a boombox then proceeded to walk around the audience (given that it was Trans Am there may have not been any women there) and grinding on dudes, one kid almost punched him and pushed him away

but the vibe was way more andy kaufman than loveable R&B scamp

yeah, I thought of Har Mar as less of white dork who makes R&B and more like ... a hipster

he's kind of the uber minneapolis hipster, has connections throughout everything, from his noise rock/punk/amphetamine reptile days to indie rock when he was sean na na, to connections to hipster R&B, local indie hip hop with har mar to neo-soul type respectable NPR new har mar stuff
