I will imagine Deftones are exponentially a bigger draw than Monk metal, like not even close

lol Monk metal does that already exist

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 1 October 2020 14:28 (three years ago) link

It better.

pomenitul, Thursday, 1 October 2020 14:29 (three years ago) link

Yeah I guess Deftones might be the bigger draw in 2020? Tbh I have a hard time translating ilm love for legacy bands into what their real life rep actually is.

many xps but really loving the numun album. getting big books 'lemon of pink' vibe

global tetrahedron, Thursday, 1 October 2020 15:36 (three years ago) link

i mean a bigger draw than a jazz reissue is like the lowest bar to clear in the world

Shortly after midnight, Deftones’ “Ohms” enjoyed a brief stint at #1 on the US iTunes album sales chart. Machine Gun Kelly’s “Tickets To My Downfall” quickly seized the throne, however, and remained in the pinnacle position through Friday morning.

By Friday afternoon, the new Deftones album had returned to #1. It holds the top all-genre spot as of press time at 1:50PM ET.

“Tickets To My Downfall” follows at #2, ahead of Carrie Underwood’s “My Gift” at #3, Joji’s “Nectar” at #4, and Granger Smith’s “Country Things, Volume 1.” Each is a brand new release.

And I will gladly pay attention to none of them.

The Deftones review is so well-written.

This week's Sunday Review was about Teena Marie’s album “Irons in the Fire” (it was quite informative, as I only knew her from “Lovergirl”, which is perfectly placed next to Billy Ocean’s “Loverboy” on my Best of the ‘80s mix) – does this mean we may one day see Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam’s “Spanish Fly”, The S.O.S. Band’s “Sands of Time”, or Five Star’s “Luxury of Life” on the ‘Fork?

one can only hope

The Teena Marie review is great (I feel like an, er, broken record, lol).

p4k should branch off into an oldies site that just does Sunday review type stuff 7 days a week

flopson, Monday, 5 October 2020 03:59 (three years ago) link

honestly, they should just wait 20 years before reviewing new albums, and then give ‘em the retrospective treatment.

(btw, brad – your Prince review is tremendous!)

Their "classic album" last Sunday was the infamously slept-on 21 by Adele. Hmmm.

Critically it was stepped on.

the sunday review is often a very good, slept on record. but iirc the idea behind it was to feature any noteworthy album, good or bad, that's not in the review archive.

(not making a judgment on adele: i have only heard that one really awesome song that everyone loves)

Yeah, Brad's review of "Sign 'O' The Times" is up there with Michelangelo Matos' 33 1/3 book in regards to the best written works about The Purple One. Reviews like that are why I check Pitchfork each day.

"Disco, invented by people whose existence was uncertain, was a way to turn fantasy into fact."

The conditions of their existence may have been uncertain, but they did indeed exist.

Half the Western world owns a copy of it, and it came out relatively recently. There's no need whatsover to be poring over it yet again when that slot could instead be used to tell us about a great record that relatively few people know about.

Review don't exist simply to tell people that records exist though

I'm with jon123 on this— it's really, truly not in anyone's interest to read another goddamn thinkpiece on fucking Adele.
