technological/practical "backward steps" strike again

weird ilx but sb (Doctor Casino), Friday, 15 November 2019 14:13 (four years ago) link

Gotta admit though, that the blurred Photobucket images make it more of a challenge.

Do we have a dictionary of ILX memes?

pomenitul, Thursday, 30 January 2020 12:16 (four years ago) link

Think I asked for an ILX glossary a couple of years ago and was completely ignored.

Wuhan!! Got You All in Check (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 30 January 2020 12:17 (four years ago) link

I guess ILXors are protective of their shibboleths.

pomenitul, Thursday, 30 January 2020 12:18 (four years ago) link

That's what I thought at the time, now I think it's more about a lack of ownership over this stuff and an ambivalence about giving an easy way in to what are perceived as low-quality posters. Also maybe people don't realise quite how much there is, I even forget that "otm" isn't really commonly used outside here.

Lack of ownership def, but I don't believe the above to be the case. It's more a question of: where to start? I believe there's a thread accompanying santorum.jpg, which covers some ground, but who has the time/energy/desire to compile all of ilx's memes?

looking for the website with the "bad teleconference call" simulator, with all the phrases passing through on a loop with droning music in the background. 90% sure this was a Karl Malone joint, maybe 2-3 years ago?

Doctor Casino, Friday, 20 March 2020 17:23 (four years ago) link

You are referring to Conference Call Dot Biz

inspired by Hendrix thread title... been wondering for a while, is there a thread featuring examples of guitarists/vocalists throwing to the guitar solo with a corny line? are there enough examples for this to be threadworthy? a fairly boutique enquiry, I will freely allow.

(IMO all-time best example being 'alright doll-face, come on and bore me')

What's the rolling "indie" jangle/pop thread of this year?

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 12:26 (three years ago) link

It was bumped four hours ago!

imago, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 12:39 (three years ago) link

tbf why bother with this year/decade/century?

hip posts without flaggadocio (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 12:42 (three years ago) link

D'oh, yr right imago!

NV: it's a useful way of dropping recommendations of a certain year into a thread of that year? Other than that, I've got no good answer to "why bother" when it comes to this, or to anything else really.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 12:46 (three years ago) link

ignore me being mean about jangly indie pop, i'm so bad at keeping it positive

hip posts without flaggadocio (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 12:50 (three years ago) link

You being positive abt jangly indie is another thing on ilx we can't find, it's cool :)

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 13:00 (three years ago) link

full disclosure: i have albums by the June Brides and Trembling Blue Stars and i saw a McCarthy gig once, yay positivity.

budo jeru, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 17:58 (three years ago) link

you could start a new thread, or put it in any thread at all #onethread

all cats are beautiful (silby), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 18:30 (three years ago) link
