I support capybaras unequivocally. alpacas on the other hand are the unwitting participants in a speculative bubble created by a truly bizarre variant of the work-from-home pyramid schemes which have been preying on the dumb since time immemorial and while I don't condemn the animals themselves I must condemn the highly suspect nature of their recent popularity (much like DG's)

I didn't start out meaning to end on a putdown but by the time I finished that run-on it was right there in front of me so I picked it up and ran

ha ha, I think I have seen bits of those infomercials! I always think that my MIL would totally get into that if she had a tv. Realistically, though, she'd probably just want an alpaca so that she could use it to create her own fibers for knitting and weaving.

yeah the problem is those commercials have driven up the price of the animals up above the total revenue you can ever realistically expect from the price of the wool itself in the thing's lifetime

That sucks, but on the other hand, it will probably stop MIL from ever buying an alpaca. Because there are already a lot of things in that house that we wouldn't know what to do with (including multiple cats and dogs). I can only absorb so many pets when the time comes!
