And here's me thinking there'd be no surprises

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:46 (five years ago) link

this is the fake joke, right?

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:47 (five years ago) link

ILM pulls through :)

My number 3. Max Tundra, Daphne & Celeste forever

imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:47 (five years ago) link

a pleasing listen but i didnt go back to too often

nxd, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:48 (five years ago) link

I'll add that few people get how to make the sort of melodic, breakneck pop I love better than Tundra, he's sort of a genius and this is sort of his masterpiece

imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:49 (five years ago) link

I knew it! Good album.

kitchen person, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:50 (five years ago) link

ok fine i'll listen to this album, jeez

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:50 (five years ago) link

i wanted to love the idea of 'max tundra makes a Pop album' but i only liked it and didn't feel the need to revisit it much. cool enough to see it place though

ufo, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:52 (five years ago) link

if I'd ranked this would've been #1

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:53 (five years ago) link

Is this how you apologize to LJ after putting Baby Shark in the tracks poll, no way did 13 people vote for this

frogbs, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:54 (five years ago) link

every vote for Autechre should be assigned 4x the points, if this poll was truly fair

Sorry, but that’s the Simmy rule and it can only be used once.

Wherever Simmy lands, add 40 imaginary points from me.

Yeah, I think the poll runners should multiply Simmy’s score by 2.5 or 3 for a fairer result.

13 people voted for it because it's good and they liked it

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:55 (five years ago) link

lol i think i voted for this yw lj

Mordy, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:56 (five years ago) link

I totally called this as placing 20th! It is about as infectious and kitsch as it could be and there are a thousand wonderful synth hooks. A.L.T.O, Taking Notes and Somg to a Succulent are highlights.

tangenttangent, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:56 (five years ago) link

I realised this would place when I looked at the track ballots. A euphoric feeling

imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:56 (five years ago) link

Song...phone posting

tangenttangent, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

Maybe I'll write-in Simmy in the metal poll...

jmm, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

i didnt expect this makaya mccraven to be so post rocky and tortoise/chicago underground duo-ish

Jeff Parker plays on it!

jaymc, Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:58 (five years ago) link

She’ll win it hands down

I would def buy Tracy Thorn Saves The World

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:01 (five years ago) link

Yay for Tracey in the top 20!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:03 (five years ago) link

a delightful, proper album that gathers detail and momentum as it goes. also one of the ilmiest albums i've ever heard

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:11 (five years ago) link

i have been putting off listening to the daphne and celeste all year and i'm sorry!!!

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:11 (five years ago) link

Totally deserved placement for Tracey Thorn. Record is one the best albums of her career for me. Up there with Walking Wounded, A Distant Shore and Out Of The Woods.

kitchen person, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:13 (five years ago) link

I never got round to the D&C album. I liked the first Max Tundra single but wasn't blown away, is there a notable step up? (I also liked their early bratty stuff if that has any bearing on matters.)

emil.y, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:14 (five years ago) link

^^^ this album is fucking awesome

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:18 (five years ago) link

ok so... this daphne & celeste record is basically uk perfume so far

10/10

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:22 (five years ago) link

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:23 (five years ago) link

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:23 (five years ago) link

love the Yves Tumor

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:25 (five years ago) link

Be sure to vote in this year's metal poll. It's the 10th anniversary and we just extended voting out til the end of next week.

The 2018 ILX Metal n' Heavy Rock Poll VOTING + CAMPAIGNING thread! NEW EXTENDED DEADLINE! Ballots due by Friday, February 15th 11.59pm PST

(Brad! Don't act like you don't know us xp! We also just added your AOTY to the noms list)

slack thompson (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:26 (five years ago) link

you ruining Brad's ilm cred? may as well out Simon too!

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:27 (five years ago) link

lol i have neither time nor interest in participating in the metal poll this year sorry y'all

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:27 (five years ago) link

emil.y - I loved that first single, but I still think it’s a step up. It’s much more varied than can be portrayed without hearing the whole thing though. It has a Captain Beefheart cover!

Yay Brad, glad you’re loving it

tangenttangent, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:28 (five years ago) link

tried to engage with the yves tumor record several times but it kept pushing me away.

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:28 (five years ago) link

uk perfume

The UK Perfume were a shitty indie band iirc

emil.y, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:29 (five years ago) link

D&C is more a UK thing than a US thing tbf - even discounting Max Tundra being British, the duo were way more of a thing here, we've adopted them haha

imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:30 (five years ago) link

Also thanks tt, I'll give it a listen. Not doing the intense listen-along thing with the rollout but am marking potentially cool things to check out later.

emil.y, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:30 (five years ago) link

wow

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:31 (five years ago) link

dece album but really?

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:31 (five years ago) link

Good stuff emil.y!

The Yves Tumor track that placed in the tracks poll was great. I wasn't so hot on the album but maybe the sequencing threw me? I'll revisit it

Oh look what's this. Very psychedelic start to the day

imago, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:32 (five years ago) link

That is inordinately high.

Matt DC, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:32 (five years ago) link

Maybe I'll write-in Simmy in the metal poll...

Missed my opportunity to make a Heavy K joke

breastcrawl, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:33 (five years ago) link

teh

ciderpress, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:35 (five years ago) link

I called this placing. Such a surprisingly great return after the disaster of the last album. My favourite record of theirs by a long way.
