Kerm, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I always thought this sounded like a really good idea because then your hand would be a yummy snack for whenever you needed it.

jessie monster, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:59 (sixteen years ago) link

What happens when you finish your hand?

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 10 January 2008 01:31 (sixteen years ago) link

then you qualify for a good parking space and a helper monkey.

jessie monster, Thursday, 10 January 2008 01:56 (sixteen years ago) link

your fried is dumb as shit.

among most entertaining thread reads ever.

roxymuzak, Thursday, 10 January 2008 06:55 (sixteen years ago) link

an ex girlfriend's mother did, in all seriousness, do this once.

she used to dip her hand in the (turned off) deep fat fryer and flick oil into a frying pan for the breakfast in the mornings. one day, someone turned it on first. not very nice.

darraghmac, Thursday, 10 January 2008 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Dan, did you remember to leave a mint under the pillow for our new thread friend?

John Justen, Thursday, 10 January 2008 16:35 (sixteen years ago) link

why is my thread here?

Richard 3, Thursday, 10 January 2008 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I did not need to watch that

Anti-Cop Ponceortium (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 9 September 2020 15:02 (three years ago) link

a co-worker at LJS accidentally dipped his whole arm in a deep fryer. he was so fucking tough about it, it was unbelievable. i was right next to him, making hushpuppies, and then i heard him make a sustained grunt, and then before i knew it the franchise owner was there, they're rushing to the hospital, they're cleaning out the fryer, etc. meanwhile, on the other three fryers we continued serving delicious breaded fish, chicken, and shrimp to whoever's willing to pay

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 15:03 (three years ago) link

sorry CaAL - figured reposting a video in the 'HELP! My friend stuck his hand in my deep fryer' came with an implicit health warning

オニモ (onimo), Wednesday, 9 September 2020 15:31 (three years ago) link

disappointed that no-one responded 'madness' to Richard 3

this is a hell of a short story

"sustained grunt" is haunting

shout-out to his family (DJP), Wednesday, 9 September 2020 17:21 (three years ago) link

a sustained grunt would be what i'd imagine you'd muster if transfixed by a longbow

imago, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 17:26 (three years ago) link

that's pretty much what it was like. he was extremely tough - there were cashiers in the front, 10 feet away, who didn't even know what had happened until later. even me, right by him - i don't think i noticed until a few seconds into it. it was the splash of all the oil onto the floor and fryer area that i noticed first

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 17:40 (three years ago) link

one of the big cliques in our school were the cowboys. he was older than me by about 5 years, but he was definitely a cowboy. as you'd expect, one big thing about them was toughness and not crying and just trying to be a badass. or not trying to be, i guess - they'd fucking burn their arms in a deep fryer and not even scream, that seems legit.
