Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 10:53 (fifteen years ago) link

DID ANYONE DRINK THE BOVRIL??

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 10:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Estie you know I heart you too, especially now you are a loser.

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 10:55 (fifteen years ago) link

mark c, 'estie' is esteban buttez's nickname, how much ignominy must i suffer in one day?

estela, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm sorry. Is it rude of me to have been waiting for you to say that :)

(but if you will choose an internet sobriquet then I don't think you can complain about any nicknames it may gather! What you need is a good, solid, real name, like Mark. Actually you don't, Mark's a terrible, dull name, I wish I'd thought of something witty when I re-registered)

<3 estela <3

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Rubyredd, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:45 (fifteen years ago) link

That's a pretty big cheer for a losing extract spread, rubes.

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:45 (fifteen years ago) link

WHATEVER

IT WAS PRACTICALLY A TIE

Rubyredd, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Rubyredd, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:46 (fifteen years ago) link

ELEVEN OUT OF FIFTY = nOT IMPRESSIVE

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I reckon real Marmite would have come last.

11 out of 25, Nick.

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:56 (fifteen years ago) link

PORK

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 11:57 (fifteen years ago) link

a scoreboard that says M vegemite B marmite V bovril followed by adding mistakes is not a scoreboard i can take too seriously.

estela, Thursday, 15 May 2008 12:01 (fifteen years ago) link

So who exactly are you calling a cheat, Lxy, Lingbert or Jergins?

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 12:34 (fifteen years ago) link

even though she wasn't there, and even though i <3 her, i am inclined to blame rubitchredd for this entire fiasco.

estela, Thursday, 15 May 2008 12:40 (fifteen years ago) link

how do people eat that shit on a daily basis? they were tolerably bad upon first smell and taste, but then the aftertaste and the....aftersmell? WOULD NOT GO AWAY. the longer i sat there, the more i wanted to keep lowering my scores. eventually i just gave up. i tried to kill the aftertaste with joffas and beer, but nothing worked. as for the ability to linger, all 3 foodstuffs are champs.

my description of the smell and taste was something like "yeasty nursing home and asshole."

Lingbert, Thursday, 15 May 2008 14:56 (fifteen years ago) link

btw my #1 actually ended up being vegemite somehow. it wasn't a clear winner in my head, more just that it happened to end up having the most points.

Lingbert, Thursday, 15 May 2008 14:58 (fifteen years ago) link

btw estela the expression on your dog's face was perfect for what was sitting in front of it.

also, the line "so i hit him in the face with a vegemite sandwich" doesn't sound so comical anymore. gross.

Lingbert, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:01 (fifteen years ago) link

So none of you actually liked any of the spreads? Maybe John Justen will come to Bovril's rescue.

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I reckon real Marmite would have come last first.

braveclub, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:06 (fifteen years ago) link

I can't even eat twiglets any more, they're just nasty.

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:11 (fifteen years ago) link

remy liked bovril

lol "real marmite" oh boy can't wait to try it

Lingbert, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:15 (fifteen years ago) link

but seriously, thanks to all who sent stuff. it was gross, but now i know. joffas are pretty good, though.

Lingbert, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:31 (fifteen years ago) link

i liked the potential of bovril. the execution was ... well, significantly better than that of vegemite/marmite. i kept eating it though, in the same guilty and perverse fashion in which i dip crackers in the oil that comes atop peanut butter. it seems like it would be a wonderful ingredient for a molecular gastronomer.

remy bean, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

vegemite was decent (if too salty) but the aftertaste lingered and lingered and lingered. neither whiskey nor soda nor water nor bread could clear it from my palate. i left my big scorecard at the lxy/jergz compound, but i believe i described the appearance as 'bloody boogers' and the taste as 'sweat from a dehydrated arab's scrotum'

remy bean, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:45 (fifteen years ago) link

marmite did not lead one to create crude, lewd, biological metaphors, just imparted sensation of eating something muddy, british, and very very old. like the schmutz that might've gotten stuck on the bottom of James Herriot's wellingtons.

remy bean, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Cheers Remy, and I'm glad you liked it!

Mark C, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

i think i had it years ago, on top of ice cream, on a dare.

remy bean, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:58 (fifteen years ago) link

my stomach still feels weird

jergïns, Thursday, 15 May 2008 20:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, i have had an interesting day today ... gastronomically.
