one distinct advantage of dating a dance nerd is being routinely subjected to digs thru beatport's deep house top 100

Liking the new storm queen, was amazing to see morgan geist on my first ever night in NY until being awake for 24hrs caught up on me

straightola, Thursday, 26 July 2012 11:36 (eleven years ago) link

anyone knows some melodic/warm/atmospheric house/techno that wouldn't sound out of place in a michael mayer set/mix? older tracks are welcome

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 26 July 2012 13:38 (eleven years ago) link

[Not totally sure about how mayer-y it is, but Yagya's 'Snowflake' might fit the bill. Also, you might be better asking in the bobbins of the past thread - Techno/House Bobbins of the past.]

neilasimpson, Thursday, 26 July 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

[although it mightbe a bit more ambient than what you're after]

neilasimpson, Thursday, 26 July 2012 13:57 (eleven years ago) link

yea, I realize this is a bit out of topic. anyway I think I can find them in the soft/sad techno thread

this is actually amazing, much and all as carl craig isn't reinventing the wheel. reminds me of quetzal.

Is this new Shed album as unimpressive to people as a review I skimmed implied? Starting to listen now and it's not grabbing me necessarily, but seems reasonable

your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 2 August 2012 14:54 (eleven years ago) link

This is obviously a superficial reaction, but calling your record "the killer" with a close up of a speaker smacks of disposable big room club albums. Seems kind of incongruous for a shed album. Oh yeah, the track and a half from it I heard in the record store yesterday sounded quite nice, at least to the extent that I went up to find out what it was.

EDB, Thursday, 2 August 2012 15:32 (eleven years ago) link

And good lawd does his ellipsis remix suck. Ok, it's doesn't suck, but given what Shed's capable of it should have been waaaaaaaaaaaay more interesting than a lot of unneccesarily skittery drum rolls over the same basic elemetns but made boring. True, you can't expect him to just keep making variations of big ass 4/4 beats over big ass piano/synth lines, but ellipsis could have gone from already achieving total heavyiosity to even heavier heavyiosity.

EDB, Thursday, 2 August 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

I love that remix! It's way better than the original anyway

Number None, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:04 (eleven years ago) link

nah the shed album is really good

he basically pulls this each time anyway - people who had been all over wax and eqd had the same reaction to the traveller, people who had been all over soloaction had the same reaction to shedding the past

i think as usual the production is amazing and the sound is super creative

* "with a close up of a speaker" as the album cover

Can't find a decent youtube, or a long enough sample but System of Survival's X-Pert (feat. Anna Gi) is a proper summer anthem.

It's someone singing a Whitney line, and I know which I'd rather hear on the dancefloor.

I prefer the underground mix.

no doubt

Several weeks on but I've only just realised that that record that seemingly every DJ was playing in Croatia was Julio Bashmore's Au Seve. First Bashmore I've really liked.

It's like a soothing acid bath, followed by a snooze in an acid blanket.

sounding good!! lol @ 'track david would play'

jabba hands, Thursday, 9 August 2012 11:48 (eleven years ago) link

So this Christian Loffler album is essentially a Pantha du Prince facsimile? At least is the impression I get 33% in, and, y'know looking at the cover/title/song titles. Not that I'm complaining, though!

so true. it actually reminds me of some of aphex twin's more low-key, melodic acid stuff.

^^ this popped to my head on a first listen too. especially that early stuff from 'classics' or 'SAW 85-92' where there was still a clear acid influence on some his tracks.

I think we had that one upthread, although it was cunningly hidden under a different name (rave/evar). Worth posting again though. My fave tune of the year so far.

neilasimpson, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:39 (eleven years ago) link

the Strip Steve album is pretty good, I was expecting a bunch of bangers like "Calcium" but it's more like funky disco loops

actually one drawback is that there's nothing that bangs as hard as "Calcium." but I like the album.

any thoughts about the controversial theo parrish's new track?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 17 August 2012 06:07 (eleven years ago) link

Which one? The Running Back release? What's controversial about it (I'm not questioning you, I just haven't heard it)?

formerly EDB (ed.b), Friday, 17 August 2012 07:19 (eleven years ago) link

this?

mmmm, Friday, 17 August 2012 07:28 (eleven years ago) link

yes, that's the one. by controversial I mean most people seem to hate it.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 17 August 2012 07:38 (eleven years ago) link

Thoughts? It's a track based on Kung Fu movie samples. I think it's something that TP could get away with in a set, I can't imagine hearing anyone else playing it out. I guess it will sell because it's got his name on it.

mmmm, Friday, 17 August 2012 07:42 (eleven years ago) link
