At least the song doesn't have all the clipping like Death Magnetic has. At least from what I can tell.

Just listened to this in the cold light of pretty buzzed.

Kind of great/everything I wanted.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 05:00 (twelve years ago) link

you know. Despite all the table jokes, the horrible mix, the fact that it does sound like it belongs on the hobo with a shotgun OST with dialogue from the movie I get the impression that I'm going to come out (shudder) 'liking this'.

owenf, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 09:31 (twelve years ago) link

If Rick Rubin produced this, I'm guessing we would've heard. Too bad, because a Reed/Rubin photo would be nice.

Corn Maze to the Dark Side (Eazy), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 13:46 (twelve years ago) link

Turns out Rubin's already working on their next record, per Metal Injection.

just got this update from FACEBOOK
"‎'The View' is Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World tonight on the BBC. He will be spinning it at 7:30 PM in the UK!"
do not know who the fuck Zane Lowe is! But he knows what's UP.

tylerw, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 17:48 (twelve years ago) link

Enjoy some love:

Is Zane Lowe joking?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 17:49 (twelve years ago) link

Alternately:

zane lowe c/d?!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 17:49 (twelve years ago) link

pro:

his manner is kind of amusing/lovable. It's like every record played is something you NEED TO KNOW ABOUT, he's kind of like a bossy schoolteacher, he barks out his spiel in this weird stentorian manner. It makes me laugh, plus I like his bizarre enthusiasm. I'd probably really like his show, but for:

con:

the music he plays is utter shit. Except once in a while he plays a decent metal track.

So I guess dud, really. You?

In 30 years, will music snobs pretend to like "Lulu" the way they pretend to like "Metal Machine Music?"

thirdalternative, Wednesday, 28 September 2011 13:05 (twelve years ago) link

What's this "pretend to like Metal Machine" crap? I love Metal Machine; even used to fall asleep to it when I worked weird hours. It's white noise with style.

Maybe I'm not a music snob and thus escape your comment, but I think it's only snobs and weirdos that have even heard Metal Machine Music in the first place.

I'm comfortable with being a weirdo, by the way.

yeah, MMM is pretty listenable. first time i heard it, i thought i'd have to turn it off after a minute, but it can be kind of a relaxing record.

tylerw, Wednesday, 28 September 2011 14:42 (twelve years ago) link

Metal Machine Music is indeed awesome.

I do not hear the Lungfish similarities by the way. I get the idea of the similarities: spoken-sung vocals, list-like lyrics (in the chorus especially), and a riffy, repetitive backing, but sonically and execution-wise it sounds nothing like Lungfish. It sounds like if someone asked me to make up a slow Metallica riff off the top of my head and tack on some Lou vocals with a time limit of 30 minutes for the whole exercise.
