Yes. Your username. Is it Kel Polaris or Kelp O'Laris?
― Julian Osage Orange (kkvgz), Thursday, 2 December 2010 02:10 (thirteen years ago) link
It really has no significance... I go by different variations of "kelp" depending on website, and to separate them (for no particular reason other than that I can) I tack on a random word. Kelpolaris is just something I came up with after seeing the neighbor's Polaris parked across the street. Not that exciting.

I will admit to having perused the w4m/ce CL postings from time to time very recently. Thing is, I just got out of a six year relationship, which itself was on the back of another 3+ year one, so I'm ready to remain single for a good long minute. The trick is making sure said 'minute' does not also entail inadvertent celibacy. The main dilemma I've encountered in this situation is that, anytime u go on the internet looking anything nsa/m4w (CL included), ppl basically react like yr some gross old perv likely to end up getting busted by Chris Hansen or something. So fuck it, I guess I'll start going out to the bars on weeknights and such. I may not be looking for an official gf just yet, but fuck being alone all winter too.
fwiw, I only sent out a few responses CL (& never actually posted anything myself). Of the inquiries I submitted, I seem to recall a 100% spambot response rate, so I sorta got the notion that all these ostensibly skeezy, diseased & desperate humanoids trolling for dudes out there are actually, for the most part, purely fictional entities.
― kelolpapyrus (Pillbox), Thursday, 2 December 2010 02:38 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah to be fair I think there's some major gender/power dynamics issues involved w/r/t the perception of men seeking sex with a woman (creep!) or a woman seeking sex with a man (slutty nympho/prostitute!) versus a man seeking sex with a man (commonplace!)

since this thread has taken a non-fuckheaded turn:
I've had several NSA hookups from CG. A couple really great, where both of us were on the same page as far as what we expected, most mediocre, and one that was pretty much the worst "date" I've ever had.
― for the next throbbing minutes (corey), Thursday, 2 December 2010 02:55 (thirteen years ago) link
plain old hooking up is fine and all, but I'm all for having some of the basic courtship rituals intact, actually, just so long as boundaries could be agreed upon and upheld - alas, this seems to be an impossibly elusive concept at this point. It doesn't help too much that the last time I dealt with the whole loldating thing was in 2005 & now I'm in my thirties! things done changed.
xp
― kelolpapyrus (Pillbox), Thursday, 2 December 2010 02:56 (thirteen years ago) link
Can I just say from a female straight perspective, I dont find asking for casual hookups on the internet blind particylarly attractive myself. Doesnt mean the ppl asking for it are "unattractive" but the act itself is skeezy as, when there's plenty of easier ways to find casual poon, cmon. The internet's full of psychos ffs.
― Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Thursday, 2 December 2010 02:59 (thirteen years ago) link
See, that's the thing. You just assumed I was looking for 'casual poon,' when clearly what I am looking for bears more of a similarity to actual 'dating,' tho it is not quite that either. Actually, Trayce, you just upheld the very stigma I was complaining about. I guess it is unavoidable?
― kelolpapyrus (Pillbox), Thursday, 2 December 2010 03:05 (thirteen years ago) link
these ostensibly skeezy, diseased & desperate humanoids trolling for dudes - btw, in case this didn't translate, it was simply a dig at preconceptions of women who might look for casual suitors on the internet as being wayward, unclean or what not. really, just the same old tramp/whore stigma dressed up a slightly different way for the times.

there's plenty of easier ways to find casual poon, cmon.
Its been 6 years since I've been single, but I never found this to be true as a straight male. Casual "poon" (or even just "hooking up") was almost non-existent once I left college. 99% of the girls I ended up being involved with in any sort of casual basis were people I met through friends or already knew somehow. Striking up conversations with random strangers in public always always blew up in my face.

I mean, obviously I'm the common denominator there and it says more about me than anything else, but I've never really felt like I was horribly awkward in social situations. I mean, getting to know people and making friends? I'm generally pretty awesome at that. But if I've ever gone into it with any inkling of sexual attraction, it just never happened.
― one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 2 December 2010 05:43 (thirteen years ago) link
I was a little trite saying that, I must admit. I just always got the impression guys found it really easy to score if they didnt mind who they picked up at a bar, but thats a horrible generalisation and I retract it.

I like the section dedicated to people who passed each other on the streets or in the supermarket. Most of the posts consist of losers saying some variation of "Girl I saw in the red convertible last Saturday, damn you fine, are you readin' Craigslist?".

personals pulled
https://www.craigslist.org/about/FOSTA
In the most ideal of situations, a bill like FOSTA *could* play a role in fighting off sex trafficking. In reality though, the bill (as is the case here) is causing a chilling effect that gooses sites like Craigslist to close up at least part of their shop and actively hurts consenting sex workers who rely on the website. As drastic as it may seem, it’s easy to understand the *why* of Craigslist’s decision to avoid the consequences of FOSTA, but the question now is whether other sites frequently used by sex workers will follow suit.
