I can't rate Dani Alves, sorry- he's got great talent but his concentration is so poor- his delivery is just crazily inconsistent.

vieira had skills keane could only dream of. having said that, keane had that aggression and competitive edge that few if any other players have.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:58 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd have Keane and Vieira together, actually, them and Nedved. Fuck Zidane. No lazies in my team.

Cashley probably is the best LB shout but he's such a little cunt I just wont accept it. There MUST be better. I'd accept Evra at a push.
LAHM

Only other plausible left backs I can think of are van Bronckhorst, Panucci and (I think) Sorin
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:01 (fourteen years ago) link
None acceptable, including Lahm. sorry.
― DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:02 (fourteen years ago) link
LB Roberto Carlos
― tomofthenest, Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:03 (fourteen years ago) link
I would have xavi iniesta and zidane in my midfield vs SM United. fuck compromise!
― DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:03 (fourteen years ago) link
Yes, too many Premiership players in the team
― The Oort Locker (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:04 (fourteen years ago) link
Panucci's a rightback and was done by 2006 realistically.
Van Bronkhorst played for RANGERS.
Sorin has such fuckawful hair.
Lahn too spotty.
Carlos too old.

it's ashley cole. almost certain. need to go through italian national left backs to be sure.
zambrotta?

― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:08 (fourteen years ago) link
is this best now or best of the last 10 years? cos Keane, Vieira & Zidane are too old now as well.
― tomofthenest, Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:08 (fourteen years ago) link
how is twatley better than Roberto Carlos at his prime???? or Evra for that matter?
― tomofthenest, Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:09 (fourteen years ago) link
Best of decade, I think.
― No, YOU'RE a disgusting savage (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:09 (fourteen years ago) link
i think (without being sure) that it's of the last ten years. furthermore, i'm not sure if it is 'at any stage over the past ten years' or through the decade as a whole.
― DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:10 (fourteen years ago) link
btw twatly is better than carlos at his prime.
Twatley's a better defender than Carlos.
Carlos, like Zidane, is notable for a handful of amazing moments; beyond that he ran up and down a lot and crossed the ball to Cafu (who crossed it back) a lot.
― No, YOU'RE a disgusting savage (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:10 (fourteen years ago) link
kicked the ball too hard and too high A LOT
― DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:11 (fourteen years ago) link
Ashley Cole? OK, he's better than somebody like Lampard, but he isn't all that
― The Oort Locker (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:13 (fourteen years ago) link
maybe I'm just blinkered by not liking Cole, but I don't think I've ever seen him play conspicuously well. Solid and consistent I guess, but never "the best left-back in a decade" good
― tomofthenest, Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:13 (fourteen years ago) link
He is good, but he is definitely overrated
― The Oort Locker (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:14 (fourteen years ago) link
Demonstrates the paucity of great left backs, really

I think at the same time there's a tendency to underrate Premiership players because we see them every week including when they're a bit rubbish, plus a bit of grass is greener going on.
That said Zambrotta might be a good shout at LB. There's probably a Brazilian or two I'm forgetting as well.

Arshavin was pretty terrible in that game, if only he would cover Gibbs we wouldn't have conceded four.
