we have mr whippy!

NZ, land of elfin hobbits and friendly S&M ice cream.

fun facts about billy corgan and the smashing pumpkins would make my day. ned?

FUN FACTS:

Billy Corgan, being an obsessive goth boy at one time with no money, did some extremely ridiculous videos desparately trying and failing to be the Cure's "Lovecats" video:

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:37 (sixteen years ago) link

RR did you know they were importing sex slaves into that weirdass Roman nip-rubbing emporium under their hoop skirts?

http://www.mychemicaltoilet.com/smashing_pumpkins.jpg

Abbott, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I would not want to be behind Billy's squat pose.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:42 (sixteen years ago) link

(That said, the video they did all that for was a masterpiece of over the top insanity -- Aubrey Beardsley's designs for Salome meets Fellini's Satyricon via D. W. Griffith's Intolerance)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:43 (sixteen years ago) link

jesus that video was totally awesome, loved the beardsley influence. pity no one but the two of us seemed to like it ;_;

abbott, i did know that, but thank you anyway :0

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:44 (sixteen years ago) link

abbott, you could really make my day by telling me that you're ok and things are alright with you.

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:45 (sixteen years ago) link

OTHER FUN FACTS:

There's an extremely obscure Pumpkins song that still hasn't been officially released called "Germans in Leather Pants."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:45 (sixteen years ago) link

mine too, abbott, i have been thinking about you a lot. xp

estela, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm way good, considering. Things are really chill and productive. I always make things chill and productive,

I fucking loved that video a ton. It was the thing that got me to like that album, actually.

xxp

Ned are you sure this isn't their "Pink Litmus Paper" prank equiv?

Abbott, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:47 (sixteen years ago) link

see? double whammy of happiness and days made good if you are ok!

<3 <3 <3

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:47 (sixteen years ago) link

ned if you have this secret song, i would very much like it.

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:47 (sixteen years ago) link

also: ned, i forgot to tell you - i didn't get to go to the wellington concert ;_;

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I just put on their new album for first time. Someone plz tell me I won't be crushed w/remorse.

Abbott, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:48 (sixteen years ago) link

My fucking fiancé got to go to some private Boise record store 100-person SP show in high school...I think just after Adore. He just told me this like three months ago! "You knew I love the Pumpkins, why didn'y tou tell me?"""

"Forgot, sorry." That guy.

Abbott, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Yay for happiness! This is a good thing.

Ned are you sure this isn't their "Pink Litmus Paper" prank equiv?

Nope. It all has to do with the Starchildren...and I have that one single that is their only official original release. (I am, needless to say, not selling that one for love or money.)

I just put on their new album for first time. Someone plz tell me I won't be crushed w/remorse.

I regret to say I will not be that person.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Saw the Pumpkins...five times in the nineties? First time was late 1991, Hole opening, 200 people in a club show, Billy still had the long hair. Mesmerizing.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:50 (sixteen years ago) link

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

xp

I bet they're fun to see live.

Abbott, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I have said this before but if Billy hadn't been so stupid as to give this new band the old name I would just enjoy it as a neo-Zwan or something. But that combined with the fact that it just sounds...off...well, anyway.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Among other joys I do have the Mashed Potatoes compilation sourced from the full CD set and seeing as providing an Abbott with good cheer would be a fine thing, let me know if you need it.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:54 (sixteen years ago) link

i used to be an obsessed smashing pumpkins fan. i think i saw them 18 times or something. it's a reason i don't use my real name here. if you all knew it you could find a buncha embarrassing stuff from alt.music.smashing-pumpkins and listessa

jergïns, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:54 (sixteen years ago) link

...?

I do not know what this is.

xp

Abbott, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:55 (sixteen years ago) link

You do not? Ah, you are missing out. Behold!

jergïns, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, this is hilarious -- I completely forgot I reviewed this thing for the AMG:

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:57 (sixteen years ago) link

there are some good moments, but i'm still warming up to it. i liked the zwan album when it first came up but it sure as hell didn't stand the test of time (also tainted by memory associations with stupid old ex).

i like 'bleeding the orchid' and 'tarantula' and 'doomsday clock' but i still haven't really given it a good listen.

OMG jergins really???? i knew there was a reason i liked you so much!!!

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:58 (sixteen years ago) link

my sp love is more of a nostalgia now, rather than anything more serious. i don't even listen to their older albums all that much anymore.

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:58 (sixteen years ago) link

but there is nothing cooler than being in a car and a pumpkin comes on the radio.

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:59 (sixteen years ago) link

This is me, pretty much -- other things, other obsessions, older and newer. I'd be bored if I just listened to the same things as I did ten, fifteen years back. But most people stop where they are, I've realized.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 00:59 (sixteen years ago) link

i was obsessed and then burnt out really fast and hard, just after the mcis box set. i only listened to adore like twice and the other ones maybe once each. but when i was into them, i was IN

i hadn't listened to the old stuff in years. lingbert came over the other night with some golden oldies though. i've had beautiful stuck in my head for a few days :)

jergïns, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:00 (sixteen years ago) link

oh i love 'lily'! and also 'beautiful'!

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:02 (sixteen years ago) link

it was always wonderful when they played that one live

jergïns, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:02 (sixteen years ago) link

i can't believe you saw them 18 times. so jealous. i'm really hoping they CA again, so me and jordan can go see them.

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:03 (sixteen years ago) link

jergïns, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Rubes, what of Zwan?

wilter, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:08 (sixteen years ago) link

i haven't listened to it in a couple of years! honestly, whenever i catch a few bars of one of the zwan songs i cringe, because it brings back memories of the shit relationship i was in at the time, with this total moron. i have serious issues with music-related memory.

"And So I Died of a Broken Heart...CAUSED BY THAT ASSHOLE"

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:21 (sixteen years ago) link

haha no he was too much of a dick to break my heart. it's more like cringeing in shame and embarrassment that i ever dated someone who was such a loser and had an IQ of about 30.

sadly, he was australian, but i haven't let this colour my general opinion of all australians ;)

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 01:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I also <3 legwarmers. I still have one pair around here somewhere... no idea where, however. ;_;

Sara R-C, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:41 (sixteen years ago) link

go to sockdreams.com

mine were like US$12 and the shipping is FREE in the US!

Rubyredd, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Whoa!

Loooooove free shipping.

Sara R-C, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:48 (sixteen years ago) link

My favorite place to buy legwarmers: Grand Jete (oh, hells on not having the French accent aigu to place on there on this computer, but whatever) on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. I haven't been in there in years... sooooooo want to go now.

Sara R-C, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Also all this ballet thinking has me totally wanting to take a class again, although I think not doing it for 15 years would cause it to be a painful sort of thing to do. So tempted.

Sara R-C, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:51 (sixteen years ago) link

eleven years pass...
