hell get bigger and stronger and prob just have to deal with getting pushed around by stronger guys anyway everyones got their strengths and weaknesses so to speak

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:53 (one year ago) link

prob get a lot of minutes at the 4 to start but if he can consistently hold up playing center my god having a guy with his offensive game there would be freaking apocalyptic

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:59 (one year ago) link

they just need an undersized C to match his oversized PF and theyll be set

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:04 (one year ago) link

i bet NBA teams worried less about chet's weight than random ppl on twitter or whatever but to me the key is that he moves fluidly and doesn't have any injury history or seem like a notable injury risk as far as big guys go. "porzingis" was trending on twitter last night during the game bcuz apparently lots of ppl were tweeting "this is what porzingis was supposed to be before the injuries" but porzingis had a certain stiffness you typically associate w/ a 7+ footer. chet isn't a huge leaper or anything but he's a much more natural athlete than is normal for that size & that's more important than the fact that he's skinny

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 18:52 (one year ago) link

there will be tons of ppl on TV etc saying you just have to be physical w/ chet and toss him around & obv there will be some adjustment for him going up against 28 year old beast big men. you're not gonna want him guarding jokic or whatever. but it reminds me a bit of steph where you had ppl saying for years that you had to rough him up and get him off his game but he was small and skinny his whole life and figured out how to be great anyway, he wasn't going to be affected by guys trying to be physical with him. steph did get noticeably bigger to hold up more on defense, it's not like the strength aspect is meaningless, but it wasn't some cheat code to neutralize him as a basketball player & i think chet will be the same way

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 18:57 (one year ago) link

saw a nice dirk step back fadeaway from him. hard to stop that

Heez, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 18:59 (one year ago) link

the polish on his game for his age and extremely tall body is crazy, he was treating those utah scrubs like assistant coaches lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 19:17 (one year ago) link

His free throw percentages were really good that helps

i mean, if chet is KAT who can actually play defense he's one of the best players in the NBA lol

One contract signed today that stands out is the five-year $251M one for Bradley Beal. Negotiated by Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports, the Beal contract consists of a no trade clause. He is the only player in the league to have a true no trade clause.

hysterical basketball franchise

*pfunk voice* 🎶if i were a wizard of finaaaaaance/
i would probably spend it alllll on brad beallll/
i'd be busy giving him no trade clauses/
just to show I appreciate him being here🎶

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:20 (one year ago) link

ted leonsis should’ve thrown in his house and given beal his social security number too just to be safe

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:21 (one year ago) link

it's really sad. i had to tell this dude who was all psyched about them getting John Collins that he wasn't gonna save their franchise. nothing will

Heez, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:22 (one year ago) link

like its definitely a good problem to have, theyve got 2 1sts next year (and 3 2nds), but they have 8 1RP picks between 2024 and 2025 (and 4 2RPs), feels like theyll need to trade a bunch of those picks and have to take back suboptimal value for them. like u cannot choose a whole roster worth of players in a two-year time span, its crazy.

They only have one next year (the best of their own and the Clippers).

It is tricky though - I think they've mostly got a good young core already, who just need time to develop. I don't think 2RPs are much use to them at the moment. They did package up three protected 2023 1RPs to get Ousmane Dieng this year, which was a good deal. Dieng is pretty pivotal for OKC - if he turns into a classy wing/forward, he's like the missing piece to go with Chet/Giddey/SGA/Dort/Jalen Williams, plus Mann as a bench scorer and Poku as a whatever-he-is.

aphoristical, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:46 (one year ago) link

i think having all the picks is good its cool its workable picks are highly fungible

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:49 (one year ago) link

having 20 20 year olds in your org is maybe kind of weird but it seems to be working out pretty well for them so far

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:50 (one year ago) link

lol that beal deal is something else god bless the washington wizards god bless brad beal

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:51 (one year ago) link

no trade clause is the cherry on top pretty funny since the contract was nearly untradable from the moment it was signed

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 21:51 (one year ago) link

brad beal one of the most ????? guys in nba history to me, incredible talent who made a zillion dollars doing nothing while playing with no one on a nothing franchise, like some ABA guy whose name you stumble on and go “huh weird this dude averaged 26 ppg for 7 years for … buffalo?”

Clay, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:30 (one year ago) link

ehh feel like theres a couple good players like that per generation that are happy to just be the franchise guy

ciderpress, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:39 (one year ago) link

its not like he's an mvp level player

ciderpress, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 22:39 (one year ago) link

They only have one next year (the best of their own and the Clippers).

― aphoristical, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 4:46 PM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

ah this is what i get for using fanspo. so it looks like 2025 is just...3 1RPs? with swap rights with TWO teams for their own pick?

https://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/DraftTrades/Future/Thunder.htm

bananas

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 23:16 (one year ago) link

2024, OKC have:
Own; HOU 5-30; LAC; UTH 11-30

I imagine they'll need to keep kicking some of them down the road?

aphoristical, Thursday, 7 July 2022 00:08 (one year ago) link

Or they’ll trade them for the right piece

imagine for a second that you're mark bartelstein and you're like "hey can we throw in a no-trade?" and they say sure. god that must be satisfying.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:18 (one year ago) link

hey when you've got a guy coming off a season where you missed half the year and had a career-worst shooting from 3, youve gotta make sure and wrap that guy up for a quarter billi before the knicks try some funny business

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:36 (one year ago) link

this might inspire me to do a worst-run franchise c. 2022 poll

call all destroyer, Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:42 (one year ago) link

lots of competition this year

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:44 (one year ago) link

offhand i think there are 3 options, 4 if you're feeling spicy, but it would be fun to open it up to all of course

call all destroyer, Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:45 (one year ago) link

dont agree that okc will get less value back because they have to many picks. picks are a finite resource so if anything they can drive value up via cornering the market

micah, Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:50 (one year ago) link

well now i'm talking about it so i might as well do it worst-run NBA franchise as of the 2022 offseason

call all destroyer, Thursday, 7 July 2022 01:51 (one year ago) link

cannot get over this Bradley Beal contract, it reminds me of MLB 10-15 years ago when teams would sign 30 year old overweight sluggers who can't play defense to these insane 9 year contracts even though players fitting that profile almost always declined after 1-2 years and would usually become unplayable after 5. but the GMs wouldn't give a shit because they knew if they didn't turn things around fast they'd be fired anyway. actually this whole offseason has reminded me of that. they're making moves as if they knew the world was ending next year

frogbs, Thursday, 7 July 2022 03:07 (one year ago) link
