i'd say a good half the teams in the league evaluate draft picks on the assumption that raw athleticism is always more valuable than demonstrated skills on the court, because they assume skills can be taught. they overlook how hard it is to un-teach bad habits or to rebuild a player to have good habits. hoops skills are instilled by endless repetition and muscle memory and if that repetition has been laid in poorly it's an uphill battle to overcome that. 'projects' rarely pan out as desired.

heat have traded away picks or just had bad ones for a lot of the riley era but recently theyve had some late lottery picks and done well with them

they didn’t have a great run in the bron era basically only picked norris cole & shabazz lol

it’s prob a bit unfair to judge the warriors based on playing two of the fiveish best teams in the league but it’s not clear to me how they’re gonna beat good teams
