i just saw a family of american tourists outside my store filming an ambulance go by with it's sirens going. this is possibly one of the stupidest things i've ever witnessed.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:28 (eighteen years ago)

there's a 'this is a thread for when chicks show up' but it's mostly grady talking about shoes

-- jergïns

awesome

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

I don't get paid for this, but I do log hours and hours at my impressive rates doing this when I should be protecting the internet in a more bureaucratically acceptable manner. otoh my colleague who is actually a civil servant spends most of his time refreshing MLB game feeds so eh.

stet, however, made out like a bandit. this whole thing's running on a refurbed sun box he got off ebay for $130

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

$130 being about 1/20th of what StanM donated alone

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

the "m" stands for "millionaire"

max, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

hahahahaha see, this is why I have a strict "never give ILX any damn money" policy

HI DERE, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

m for munificent

estela, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

wow really????

fuck, there are no ads, no annoying bannerheads - ppl should be pretty happy with this site. and if they're not... well... like we say at my restaurant: YOU'RE WELCOME TO LEAVE WHENEVER YOU FEEL LIKE IT. and am i correct in assuming that the money ponied up by ilxors for the server was all 'donations'? in which case, no one had to give that money.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

me and jordan belong to a secret board called the 'back alley' on another forum we belong to, and it's pretty slow. not boring, as such, since we bitch about all the mentalists in the main boards. but it's good because all our friends are there, so there's no trolling (oh, except for this one old guy me and jordan absolutely hate).

the dude who moderates that forum is pretty much the 48yr old version of tombot.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

and we <3 him!

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

not really!

the money was all donations to buy a new server. I still ended up sinking a stupid chunk of cash into it anyway (thanks customs ppl). We did have google ads running on search once. I think there's $10 in that account, which should be sent to Tombot to invest in the US economy cos it's no use to me.

We got the code (which Keith wrote the majority of) valued once. It came at about $80,000, but Keith reckons it's more at the usual hourly he charges.
xp

stet, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

in fact, then it was just "donations to save ILX" because we didn't have a hosting deal fixed up or anything.

stet, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

What is Keith doing now? He's not around ILX at all is he?

wilter, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

stet, sorry to be a nag but did my sandbox registration application ever go through, i tried several times and got no response.

estela, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

If I'd put in $80,000 worth of my sweat into this I'd try to forget it ever existed too

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 April 2008 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

hahahahaha see, this is why I have a strict "never give ILX any damn money" policy

OMG you hypocrite

Mark C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think anyone sane could seriously believe anyone got rich off ilx donations.

estela, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

i happily gave $ 25 and haven't thought about it again until today

jergïns, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

that should go on the good attitude thread.

estela, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

now i'm afraid that sounded sarcastic, it wasn't.

estela, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

I enjoy ILX but there are things about it that baffle me.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

I probably only really enjoy things that have aspects to them that baffle me, though, tbh

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think anyone sane could seriously believe anyone got rich off ilx donations.

Me, yesterday:

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

estela: no! Something weird must be going on. Tonight I'll just hack over yr account from here, so the same login will work. keith is still about, but doesn't post much. xps

stet, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

thanks stet<3

nice side part, ned.

estela, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:31 (eighteen years ago)

home form work bump!

tehresa, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

to sum up: ppl need to stop whining about something that is
1. free (donations don't count)
2. voluntary

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

I dare you to post that on the thread.

HI DERE, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

Too sensible, wouldn't get noticed.

Mark C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:41 (eighteen years ago)

i couldn't get through the whole thing... bookmarked for later
(note: it did provide enough reading for my entire 1.5 hour train ride home today!)

tehresa, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:41 (eighteen years ago)

i'm too scared

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

i'm STILL reading it. but then again, i also have a job i'm supposed to be doing right now.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

I decided to make brownies instead of read it through so that my family will <3 me.

Maybe later, though, if fluids and electrolytes turn out to be unexciting.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

Tuomas, in principle, is awesomes.

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

you are always baking good stuff. i want to come live with you. xpost

hi nick! what took you so long to get here?

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

tombot should make itr a private board. then we could pretend we're all really elite.

oh wait, we ARE really elite!

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

no-one invited me :(

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

tbh, i don't know how tuomas has lasted here so long. no one ever seems to actually converse with him, just zing him.

xpost i invited you AGES ago

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

the boy has stamina. must a be a scandanavian thing.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

I like to bake stuff, it is true. If you visit, I promise to make these brownies, as they are very good and very easy. (Trust me, it's the recipe, nothing special I'm doing).

Also, if you want to come live with me, that is probably fine, but I'm warning you that the kids wake up early and are LOUD.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

Uh... xpost

You are all too fast for me!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

you did. but most of the itr goings on seem to go on when i am asleep. i am only burning the midnight oil now because my boss is away at the moment so i intend to go into work tomorrow when i damn well feel like it. (grumbling about the tube for the sake of authenticity)

xxxxxxxxx post

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:51 (eighteen years ago)

i love to bake, but i never get around to it.
sara, you sound like the nicest mommy!

tehresa, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

I HAVE FINISHED MY TASK.
I HAVE RE-RIPPED EVERY CD I OWN. ALL OF THEM. EXCEPT THE KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND 2-DISC COLLECTION (lol what) AND THE STROKES (haw 2001) WHICH I THREW OUT.

SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTINGLY THE WHOLE MESS ONLY COMES OUT TO ABOUT 108 GB @ 256+KBPS

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

i found a job listing for a position reporting to one of my adjunct professors. i emailed him to see if we could talk about it (inside track to employment??) and now i am going to be mad nervous until he writes back!!!

congrats, tom!!

tehresa, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

I need to do this. So much 128kbpsness.
xpost

wilter, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

also even though I have the new remaster discs of UF Orb and Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld I'm keeping my old copies because whoa sentimental value I've had those things for like 13 years

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

I am kind of a crabby mommy, tbh. I'm just trying to keep them from tossing me out with the brownies.

Tom - why did you re-rip everything?

Upt0eleven - hello!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

oooh, tehresa, good luck with the prospective job!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

is 256 performance qwality? i've considered doing this but an mp3's still an mp3 innit?

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 6 April 2008 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
