Ned, at some point when I mentioned this on some other thread, you mentioned some ILXOR that I should be talking to about this (unreleased Kottke/Fahey/Howlin' Wolf/other old blues dude stuff).

Do you remember who that was/what the fuck I am talking about?

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

I am supposed to be listening to the Ernani CD but instead I am playing "Machine Gun" on repeat off of Youtube.

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

z = ts
r = flipped between vowels
d and t = dental!

that's all i can think of atm.

oh, also, look @ the score to see which syllables are emphasized in a word!

tehresa, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

I think my favorite thing so far is the ellision of "tuo" and "il" on a 16th note.

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

italian is a lot easier in seattle. we just say pagliacci over and over again.

lxy, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

i love the GLIs

tehresa, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

If the chorus part was all languid balladry, I'd be set. However, since we're bandits and rogues, most of it is peppy drinking song nonsense that goes by at a bazillion words per minute.

Probably Mike McGonigal.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

Get a hold of him via Facebook under Mike Mcgg

Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

peppy drinking song nonsense that goes by at a bazillion words per minute.

That sounds insanely fun.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks. I need other ears to listen to this stuff. we just found another 600 reels of tape we didn't know we had, and I am hitting burnout fast. is ian the resident John Fahey guy, or am I imagining that?

xpost to Ned

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

YEAH SARA TRYING SINGING IT WITHOUT SPRAINING YOUR TONGUE

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

I look forward to hearing about your emergency room visit with a sprained tongue, Dan.

"Sir, can you explain how this happened...?"

They are going to draw their own conclusions, you know.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

Plus you won't be able to talk clearly!

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

bah. i didn't go to the emergency room when I bit through my tongue, so I can't imagine Dan would be sissified enough to go there due to a simple sprain

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

To combat rumor, I will make my wife take me and make sure she staggers around a lot with a big goofy grin.

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

cut to vivid memories of tongue tripping during bohème chorus - scene where mothers yell at kids is like 45 words/minute!

tehresa, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

oh and also it is writtne for sops and i was in alto and they didn't tell us to learn that part but then in staging director is like 'ok let's go!' so we all had to sing it on the spot w/out actually knowing it after a week of chorus rehearsals during which we were supposed to have laerned it LOLS

tehresa, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

okay that's totally LOL; a similar thing happened to our ladies in Lucrezia Borgia.

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

she staggers around a lot with a big goofy grin.

if you are not in too much tongue-distress, please take and post video

lxy, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

VIDEO OF THE STAGGERING NOT THE IMPLICATION

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

sorry public service message and all

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

Backing up to John -- Ian knows Fahey's stuff, certainly. He may well be the expert! But I'd honestly go direct to Mike first simply because he's best placed to suggest what to do with it all, as well as giving you a slew of potential contacts.

Anyway, drop me a private e-mail about this too, to remind me of all the details.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

John to the rescue? xpost

Also, you bit through your tongue, WTF?!

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

will do, ned

Yeah, I was at the edge of a pit at first avenue and one of the little midgety chicken-dancing glue-huffer twins (don't ask) bounced up under my chin while i was saying something and i bit through my tongue hard enough to chip a few of my teeth and split my tongue in two.

good times.

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

Well that was... descriptive.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

(I'm not sure if I should be impressed or offer retroactive sympathy or be appalled that you didn't go to the emergency room or if I should just reconsider any future plans to visit First Avenue ever again)

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

i would like to forget that i ever read about it

lxy, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

lxy, I apologize to you for asking. Unfortunately, as with many things, there is no turning back.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

Also, the nursing student nutcase in me is kind of disappointed that I wasn't there to see Forked Tongue John.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

you'd be suprised.

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ not sure how to parse that, and fearful to ask

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

pubic service masssage

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

The extra "s" in "massage" makes that even more disturbing somehow

God bless youtube.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

FUN FACT: Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje (Mr Eko on LOST) is playing Body Massage Heavy Duty in the upcoming live action GI JOE movie.

nickalicious, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

awesome

jergïns, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

THAT IS AWESOME

John Justen, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

I think that may be the only thing that would drive me to see the GI Joe movie.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

Well, unless they also cast Naveen Andrews in it.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt ... Cobra Commander

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

nickalicious, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

MOST INEXPLICABLE CASTING CHOICE FOR THE LIVE-ACTION G.I. JOE MOVIE

HI DERE, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'm really really tired again! who wants to bet I'm still awake at 4am tomorrow morning anyway?

El Tomboto, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

Sadly, I'd take that bet.

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

I am so hungry bump

Sara R-C, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt ... Cobra Commander

remy bean, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

Looking forward to the talk about that over drinks in a few days, then!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:51 (eighteen years ago)
