don't have the paper yet. i didn't have enough points to graduate (360 required, i had 358) and fucked if i was going back to that hell hole. i'd already heard it was possible to get a waiver, but didn't know for sure. yesterday i got my official exemption and placed in graduate status.

paper thingy arrives end of april.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

jesus christ the sense of RELIEF is amazing. like, it's truly and utterly over. i felt relieved before, at the end of class and shit but now it's official... man, i never EVER want to go back to uni for anything.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

i want to go back so bad

also, CONGRATULATIONS!

jergïns, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

CONGRATULATIONS Rubyredd! It's crazy awesome to be done! (I dimly remember that.)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

also lolz about your friend's friend and the kids. Kids are awesome and fun, but they can be super stressful. I'm always torn between telling people YES HAVE THEM NOW and NEVER HAVE THEM ARGH. (I wouldn't trade J and 4lex for anything, but I'm not going to lie about them driving me insane, either.)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

ha. I got my BA in the mail right after I started my first real job out of the military. I remember thinking it was great, I never had to go to school for anything again unless I wanted to. Next September I was in grad school.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

lol the link is still there on IMM but to completely confound ITR laziness I will repost it here:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/sraxgt

nb please do not let gentle ribbing keep you from telling me how awesome my song is

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

And now I have my MS in Engineering Management that I got just last May I'm looking at starting an MPP next spring. These fucking reimbursement programs that come with these govt contractor jobs are just too sweet to pass up. What am I doing? What the fuck am I doing? I HATED school when they MADE me do it

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

dan when do I get to remix YOUR band

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

dude just give me requirements and you can start the instant after I get you src material

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

808 + banjo = dream

jergïns, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

apparently a million ppl are trying to download your song, and i have to wait.

tombot, jesus christ, sometimes you are such a downer. i'm NEVER going back to school! for ANYTHING! i'm going to be a printer/book maker so it's the last thing i'll be doing!

jergz if you want to do it, do it. school is just not for some ppl, like me.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

I think what tombot is trying to say is NEVER SAY NEVER

I am enjoying being in school again and actually fear that I love nursing school but will hate nursing. TIME WILL TELL

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

NEVER

Rubyredd, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

Okaaaaay.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

It's not that I don't believe you; it's that I've had enough crazy unplanned stuff happen to me in only 36 years that I don't say "never."

Well, except about having more kids. And even there I'm willing if I'm the last woman on earth. (It's all about the circumstances.)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

Of course my blathering on about this is all a procrastination device to keep me from having to read my Gerontology textbook. I CONFESS

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

"Sara became legendary for her 'apocolypse parties'."

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

yeah I can't really count the number of times in the last decade that I stopped and tried to imagine what my 5-years-ago-self would say to me. It was pretty much always a variation of "you're fucking crazy, get out"

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Look, the last time I saw you it was at a clambake, so I don't think you should mock my pastimes!

Tom... that's a frustrating feeling to have.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

much less 1998 tombot:

"don't worry about this college thing. it'll be over soon, you're dropping out. worry about basic training. and then learning korean. and then texas, which will be hell on earth. then you're going to finish your degree, finally, and meet a girl and get a hot shit job at the FBI, and get a master's, and quit the job, and get divorced, and get a new job with homeland security - never mind what homeland security is. it's the new hotness. it's going to be a very short decade."

"the fuuuuuck?"

"basically, but you're better off than a lot of other folks you know, and you're still yourself."

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

So, yeah, it's good to have a Firm, Definite Plan, but since people and circumstances are unpredictable... don't totally plan on it.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

Tombot, I feel like you've had an interesting decade.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

Poor 1998 HI DERE:

"Guess what, dude? YOU'RE STILL IN BOSTON."

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

Dear 1998 Sara:

Yeah, you're going to get over this crappy perpetual nausea and vomiting stuff by giving birth early at a hospital you've never seen before. Then you'll go ahead and have another baby only THIS time you'll fall and massively fuck up your left arm. Your son will be great but in 10 years you'll still be trying to figure out if it is ASD or ADD or what the hell. Your daughter will be insane. Your husband will be awesome, but in 2008 he will be totally stressed by his job and unwilling to really do anything about it. Oh yeah, and you'll finally be in nursing school and wondering why the hell you didn't do it when you first thought about it in 1993.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

Dan, I want to know what is so bad about Boston. I have always wanted to go there!!!!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

Giant sea clams roam the street at night

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

'Red Sox Nation' a zombie cult instead of a country

jergïns, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Can you capture them and eat them? Because if so, I'm SO THERE

...but I AM afraid of zombies...

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

"baked beans" from there not actually tasty baked beans, but instead shitty old-people candy

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I don't want either kind of baked beans, so that's kind of neutral.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

- People are rude in a singularly unentertaining and offensive way.

- It's insanely expensive to live here considering the quality of the real estate, and job salaries are not at the same level as they are in cities as or more expensive.

- The airport sucks, making it a total hassle to leave to visit friends and family or for F&F to come here to visit.

- It's much smaller and more provincial than it thinks it is.

- 75% of the awesome people you meet don't stay here because of the above issues.

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

- ABYSMAL TRAFFIC & ABYSMAL PARKING

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

"Someday I Suppose" actually city anthem, and is played at subliminal level at all times throughout the day

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

I am actually most terrified by the airport thing.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

srsly if I drive to work, I'm paying $28 for parking and that is actually a DEAL

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

Yikes on parking costs, jeez.

Okay, so how can we hypnotize Dan and J031 into moving to Minnesota? John, I'm sure you have some suggestions.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

Every month, you are required to tithe 10% of your gross income to Tom Scholz

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

- OH, and FUCKING NO ONE HERE KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE

We will move to MN the instant the climate becomes like TN. I probably shouldn't have married an anemic southerner if I ever had plans to return to the Twin Cities (although she claims she'd move to Chicago, waht).

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

- designed by a rogue's gallery of con men, cattle, and uptight assholes

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

seriously dude, DC.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

It sucks but it's no fucking boston.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I know! The fact that my brother lives there is a HUGE plus.

HI DERE, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Well, what with global warming, that should be, like, 2012 at the latest.

Chicago is cool, but OMG I have never been so freaking cold as standing outside the Aquarium there two days after Xmas. Way too much wind, way too many people in line.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

and no imprimatur of center-of-the-universeness like NYC or SF causing a constant overabundance of labor and undersupply of housing

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

just so everyone knows, due to my business situation, i will live in this city until i die

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

also, i love it here and never want to leave, but it is more fun to just decide there IS NO CHOICE

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

chicago is a windswept freezing shithole, but it does have better public transportation than we do

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

no offense chicagogogoeans

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

John OTM. We don't want to make the kids change schools, so even leaving Northfield is sort of impossible now. And A. will NOT consider a different job no matter how stressed he is by it.

But yeah, it would be nice to be *able* to have a choice about it.
