the note says:

this morning i smiled at the two dear little jars of international vegemite sitting patiently on my kitchen bench but that is as far as it went, i was too busy to mail them. 'not today,' i told them. 'we don't mind,' they said, 'how long will we be we going for? when can we come home again?' and i turned my face so they would not see my tears.

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:12 (sixteen years ago)

i'm so mad at myself, i had breakfast with lxy last wednesday and i completely forgot to order vegemite and toast and butter so i could fix it for her and be sure she tried it as it is meant to be tried. i probably would have had to tie her to the chair to get her to taste it though and that might have spoiled the rest of our lovely day.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:13 (sixteen years ago)

but still.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:14 (sixteen years ago)

courtesy of this thread and its call to arms, i still have a picture of estelas terrible shameful no good dog on my refrigerator.

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:15 (sixteen years ago)

henry has sunk to new levels of depravity in response.

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:15 (sixteen years ago)

i admire your dedication to truth and science, jjjusten. however please be aware:

i just had a brainwave, i opened the homecoming vegemite to check how much had been used during the testing and i almost fainted when i saw how much was missing, it was about ten loaves of bread worth.

apparently american butter knives are too large to manage the delicacy required for spreading yeast extracts. maybe use a hummingbird feather or barbie cutlery for applying?

lxy, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:18 (sixteen years ago)

xp @ estela: i was shocked and amazed you never tried to foist it on me, the jar was right there! notice i kept my mouth shut on the topic.

lxy, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:19 (sixteen years ago)

use an imaginary knife to spread it

jergins, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:19 (sixteen years ago)

aw<3<3 harry on the refrigerator being a bad influence.

i don't know if i ever explained this to you, jj, but the jar of vegemite in the photo was larger than the one i sent you, so harry is probably bigger than you think, though still a scrap.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:22 (sixteen years ago)

JJ got the smaller one?!

jergins, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:23 (sixteen years ago)

if the foreign lands can not accept our paul bunyan styled butter knives to spread our flapjacks there is no hope for world peace tbh xxpost

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:23 (sixteen years ago)

no jergins, you both got the same size but for the photo i used my personal jar which i buy in the larger size because i eat it every single day of my life except last wednesday.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:25 (sixteen years ago)

ok for the purposes of perspective:

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:33 (sixteen years ago)

someone call the aspca, his poor nose is right next to the marmite.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:35 (sixteen years ago)

i feel a test coming on

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:39 (sixteen years ago)

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:47 (sixteen years ago)

such sad eyes

jergins, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:47 (sixteen years ago)

the bovril has sealed itself into an impenetrable unopenable form

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:48 (sixteen years ago)

after this test was concluded, henry went outside and pooped

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:49 (sixteen years ago)

not saying, just saying

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:49 (sixteen years ago)

we didn't mention this upthread, but since neither of them post anymore i think it's okay: after our tasting remy and lingbert had a footrace to the bathroom

jergins, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:50 (sixteen years ago)

<3 @ all of this.

tehresa, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:51 (sixteen years ago)

in the vegemite photo henry looks wistful and intrigued but in the marmite one he looks offended and a bit strict, i think that is because you crossed the line, jj.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:54 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha uhoh dark horse contender ROUND THREE BOVRIL:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2604/4007904846_1b54746fc0.jpg

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:57 (sixteen years ago)

follow up where henry attempts to take the bovril as his own:

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:59 (sixteen years ago)

why would anyone want to eat anything called bovril?!

tehresa, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 06:59 (sixteen years ago)

i am so close to calling animal cruelty hotline on you, j.

tehresa, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 07:00 (sixteen years ago)

to be fair he also likes the taste of his own junk so i am not sure how that applies to the question at large

FCK R VWLS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 07:00 (sixteen years ago)

we see some sights here also.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 07:01 (sixteen years ago)

note that JJ's dog only looks suspiciously at the marmite AFTER tasting the vegemite.

jabba hands, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 07:39 (sixteen years ago)

what i note is it dawning on henry that jj didn't save the best for last.

estela, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 08:42 (sixteen years ago)

biting the bovril pic owns so completely

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 08:50 (sixteen years ago)

lmao

The most awkward thing when I first started my job here were exchanges like,
"Where's the Marmite?"
"What's Marmite?"

"Where do you have Milo?"
"What's that?"
"You're not kiwi, are you."

That and half the people in Auckland are from other parts of the world and ask me for products that I not only have never heard of but aren't available in NZ and send me on a ridiculous scavenger hunt about the store.
