Yeah, I read through that last night. I appreciate his honesty about all aspects of the experience. Total admiration here for both PP and SS.

It really only sank into me on the third or so installment where I went, "Wait, this isn't only an extremely intense account of a health crisis, this is VERY well written."

I keep looking back, hoping to read more, so yeah - it's really, really good.

I was really profoundly shocked at my reaction to it - I really value PP's contributions here, he is good people and it was such a headfuck to read, especially as it basically launched into the whole "okay it's cancer" thing rather than all the wondering/hoping it's going to be okay that I'm sure everyone does when they have health worries. Beautifully written too, you're right.

One of the things that I really appreciate about it is that he doesn't hold back on the details of what chemo was like for him, and aspects of disease that people Don't Talk About outside of a medical setting (i.e. diarrhea).

I have known a few people with cancer and most of that gets glossed over, and of course we're socialized not to refer to things like colostomies, etc.

i am sort of at a loss to respond to him, actually. i hate the idea of being pat or sounding condescending with a 'you are brave' kind of response, but i want to convey that i do think those things, and that i am incredibly grateful for him posting his story, especially the icky bits that don't get discussed. and a private email seems a little invasive ...

I don't think that sounds pat or condescending, but I understand exactly where you are coming from, remy. I'm sure what I wrote was entirely idiotic sounding, but what the hell, it was sincere.
