WE WILL HAVE A GODDAMN PORCH PARTY AND EVERYONE IS INVITED.

lxy, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:35 (eighteen years ago)

xpost well... actually, I do smoke those...

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:35 (eighteen years ago)

lxy, you rock.

dump your kids off with JJ at his new house for a weekend

I'm trying to imagine what my kids would make of this. "Kids, this is my friend John. I'm sure you will enjoy the weekend with him. Well, I'm off to Seattle!!!"

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:36 (eighteen years ago)

It would also be entertaining to have the film of John Takes Care Of Two Kids for the weekend. Educational for everyone.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:37 (eighteen years ago)

ned, are you coming up for the pop conference this year?

Give a guess.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

maybe next year then

jergïns, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

HOLY FUCK LXY YOU HAS A PORCH FOR REALZ

that is A-fucking-+ but i don't drink bourbon: my brother got me way too drunk on home brewed bourbon when i was 17 and the hangover traumatised me. i like fancypants frangelico with lime. or cheap sauvignon blanc.

Rubyredd, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

frangelico is pushing it on the fancy fornt j

I know, right?, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:40 (eighteen years ago)

we have a bottle of white that we won't touch between now and then not because we're polite but because it's crap

jergïns, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:41 (eighteen years ago)

maybe next year then

You punk!

Tickets for this year long since booked etc.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:42 (eighteen years ago)

anyone who wants to drop their kids off and understands that the first order of business is teaching them how to drink like men is welcome to do so

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

as long as it's not chardonnay then cool

Rubyredd, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

that was an xpost to jergz but could easily apply to john justen, since chardonnay is for losers

Rubyredd, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

yo

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

J would probably be all for teh drinking. 4lex, maybe not so much.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

men btw not gender specific, more an evocation of the self-destructive mechanical bull riding mindset we all should aim for when boozing

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:51 (eighteen years ago)

J has that going for her without a drop of alcohol. She scares the piss out of me, tbh

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

john justen teaching sarah r-c's kids NOT to drink chardonnay is lolling me.

re. bourbon: i hated it but i found a good one that i love. home-brewed bourbon sounds terrifying so no wonder you're skittish about it.

lxy, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:55 (eighteen years ago)

where estela go ;_;_;

lxy, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:55 (eighteen years ago)

I have only had bourbon in soup. It was kinda too sweet or something.

I have a hard time imagining John recommending for or against wines, but I can see him saying that there's no point in this wine business when there's beer and liquor to be drunk. I could be wrong.

estela, COME HOME

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:58 (eighteen years ago)

is this a recap

I know, right?, Monday, 17 March 2008 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

?

I know, right?, Monday, 17 March 2008 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

i would pick JJ as a box wine drinker

Rubyredd, Monday, 17 March 2008 05:01 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think wine is John's first choice, but I feel sure that, in his view, boxed wine is acceptable since it gets the job done.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

Of course, this is a grey area and I'm just not sure.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

no point in this wine business when there's beer and liquor to be drunk.

make this man a mod of my life

jergïns, Monday, 17 March 2008 05:08 (eighteen years ago)

John does know his priorities.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 06:05 (eighteen years ago)

My current priority = sleep.

Good night all.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 06:06 (eighteen years ago)

i am effing pissed about getting kicked out of the orange trailer

max, Monday, 17 March 2008 06:06 (eighteen years ago)

WE ALL SHARE ENOUGH OF THIS PETTY SQUABBLING

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 06:40 (eighteen years ago)

like a big drunk irish fammerly

remy bean, Monday, 17 March 2008 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

LEAVE YOUR STINKING WINE AT (ONE OF) THE DOOR(S)

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

PP's thread about colon cancer is extremely ;_;

Rubyredd, Monday, 17 March 2008 08:45 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I read through that last night. I appreciate his honesty about all aspects of the experience. Total admiration here for both PP and SS.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

It is both ;_; and... whatever the ILX-accepted icon for "completely terrifying" is. And to go through all that at the same time you have a baby in the house...

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, super-heavy but great reading; he should really consider consolidating all of that into an article and shopping it.

HI DERE, Monday, 17 March 2008 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

Cosign and then some.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 March 2008 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

srsly

remy bean, Monday, 17 March 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

It really only sank into me on the third or so installment where I went, "Wait, this isn't only an extremely intense account of a health crisis, this is VERY well written."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 March 2008 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

I keep looking back, hoping to read more, so yeah - it's really, really good.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

I was really profoundly shocked at my reaction to it - I really value PP's contributions here, he is good people and it was such a headfuck to read, especially as it basically launched into the whole "okay it's cancer" thing rather than all the wondering/hoping it's going to be okay that I'm sure everyone does when they have health worries. Beautifully written too, you're right.

Mark C, Monday, 17 March 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

One of the things that I really appreciate about it is that he doesn't hold back on the details of what chemo was like for him, and aspects of disease that people Don't Talk About outside of a medical setting (i.e. diarrhea).

I have known a few people with cancer and most of that gets glossed over, and of course we're socialized not to refer to things like colostomies, etc.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

i am sort of at a loss to respond to him, actually. i hate the idea of being pat or sounding condescending with a 'you are brave' kind of response, but i want to convey that i do think those things, and that i am incredibly grateful for him posting his story, especially the icky bits that don't get discussed. and a private email seems a little invasive ...

remy bean, Monday, 17 March 2008 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think that sounds pat or condescending, but I understand exactly where you are coming from, remy. I'm sure what I wrote was entirely idiotic sounding, but what the hell, it was sincere.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

Sara OTM

Mark C, Monday, 17 March 2008 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

I have long suspected that 99.9999% of the internet would not miss the decidedly mundane results of all the hand-wringing insanity that must go on behind the scenes for the tombot to post something as simple and benign and straightforward as "condolences" or "happy birthday" so I just quit

El Tomboto, Monday, 17 March 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

When they start passing those office cards around, though, oh my fucking god.

El Tomboto, Monday, 17 March 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

Let's all take Tombot to TGIFs for his birthday.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 March 2008 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

Anyplace where the waiters sing to you.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 17:31 (eighteen years ago)
