Although you're right: I would not give him an expensive horrible present unless I also had money for expensive awesome presents to make up for my cruel behavior.

oh shit bump

speaking of shoes: i bought my first pair of hiking boots the other day. jordan said it was the most romantic thing anyone's ever done for him {i've NEVER hiked, but he is a big outdoorsy guy, and i've promised to give it a go when i move to US}

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

also: i will miss the 65% i get on eccos when i leave

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

I really need to buy some new running shoes. I walk a LOT of miles on them on my treadmill. Maybe I will be able to walk outdoors again someday, now that it appears the deep freeze has at least paused!

Uh-oh, bosslessness isn't good if you're super busy...

Still up! Still writing! Going to bed soon before lapsing into total incoherence! bump

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 06:02 (eighteen years ago)

Giving up, going to bed; it's way too late at night to start struggling with APA formatting and pretty soon anything I write is not going to make much sense. Joy!

Good night, all.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 06:13 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

i got my other graduation present from jordan today! ok technically it's from his parents, since they paid for this one, but he picked it out. holy crap i almost peed my pants when i saw the photos of it: it's this fucking huge, black silk bound, hardcover book of photography by one of my very favourite photographers, robert parkeharrison. i didn't even know this book existed, which is why it was such an awesome surprise. here is one of the photos:

NIGHT WATCHMAN'S HOME NOW BUMP.
GOOD NIGHT FROM THE NIGHT WATCHMAN.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

oh man, i just watched michael moore's 'sicko'... deeply, deeply upsetting. i guess when you've lived your whole life within that kind of system you're kind of used to it. but living in a country where healthcare is essentially free for all, i can't even begin to comprehend what it's like in the US. i mean, i complain about having to pay $45 for doctor's visit, but if i had an accident a trip to the emergency room is completely free; if i got appendicitis the operation is free.

it really scares to me think about getting sick or being in an accident while i'm living in the states.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

This is why you work for the government if you can. If you're me.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Or sell out and go into a profession that has more cash than sense (hi dere softwarez).

HI DERE, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

your healthcare might be hell expensive, but damn your electricity is cheap. when jordan told me he pays around $15 p/month i couldn't believe it. even now, in summer, our power bill (between four of us) is around $250 p/month, and electricity rates are still climbing on a regular basis.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

rubyredd have you ever swam with moko the dolphin?

jessie monster, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

moko the dolphin?? never heard of him, but there was opo (i think) the dolphin awhile back.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

'moko' is a maori facial tattoo. FYI.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

jessie monster, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

$15 per month for electricity implies that Jordan may light his home using candles

John Justen, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

I was going to say! We keep our house at 68 degrees F during the day and Really Fucking Cold at night; our last heating/electricity bill was $350. Of course it is ridiculously cold here.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

As for the health care thing, you really need to have insurance. It's expensive, it sucks, lots of people want to change it... but lots of people don't.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

When 4lex was born 6 weeks early, for example, we wound up paying about $99.00 total for his birth, the ambulance ride, my 2 day hospital stay (complete with epidural and about a million doctors and nurses) and his 21 day hospital stay. We had great insurance. If we hadn't had any, we would never have recovered financially from that event: we looked at all the bills and it would have been $100,000.00. This is 1998, mind you.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

eh, I don't pay heating on our apartment and our electricity is only $17/person. my friends had a $600 (gas) heating bill for the month of January, tho.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

oh by the way guys I made dean's list. give me cookie.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

$15 per month for electricity implies that Jordan may light his home using candles

Or he could just have an apartment. That's about all I pay per month.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

yeeah living in a closet!

jessie monster, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

John Justen, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

what if my cat gets lonely?

John Justen, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

my mom leaves her tv on so the dog doesn't get lonely.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

huh. so what you are saying is that i shouldn't leave all my lights and appliances on all day?

Not unless you are simultaneously running the heat and the A/C at full blast. That way they can learn peaceful coexistence.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

I actually walk around looking for things to unplug, in a hopeless effort to spend less on that bill.

xpost jessie - congratulations on making the dean's list!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

I am sorry that I do not have a cookie for you, though. ;_;
