my little sister just turned up in town to surprise me, but i'm stuck at work so couldn't really hang out. she was with this very creepy gross looking dude... she just broke up with her longterm bf a couple of weeks ago and apparently this is the new guy. i'm pretty worried.

Srsly, this last week or so has brought the news of the death of a friend's father and the death of a different friend's brother. Another friend's husband lost his job AND they have an autistic son whose teachers want to move him from being mainstreamed to a special school. I had to put my cat to sleep. And a week or two ago my very dear cousin got dumped.

Ned, I feel for you about the divorcing friends. Watching people divorce is apt to turn you off romance for life. Circumstances cause me to be the ONE person who doesn't get to take sides. But that leads to huge awkwardness (especially since the ex-husband to be has moved in with his girlfriend... just TRY being friends with the dumped wife AND the new girlfriend!).

I also have a 50 point test-out tomorrow night, in which I will examine a mannequin. It feels incredibly nerve-wracking in the room with the mannequin. Also ridiculous, since, while the mannequins can make noise, they can't answer your questions. So when I ask, "can you tell me which toe I'm touching?" I have to hope the examining prof is going to answer, or I'm just going to feel like an idiot.

Actually, I'm going to feel like an idiot either way, aren't I.

Yeah, explain to me exactly why you drink that? There was an article in our local paper a few weeks ago about kombucha; it sounded kinda unappealing...

there is a noise thread about kombucha somewhere.

basically, i drink it because i have an ulcer and don't do much coffee or tea any more, and i need an energy drink. apparently it is also good for your digestion, metabolism, and is super probiotic and detoxifying. there are a lot of other claims for its efficacy, but they seem somewhat pseudoscientific.

the taste is actually pretty good, and refreshing, but it is definitely different than anything else you might drink, and takes you at least a bottle to adjust to.

the taste isn't that odd? it's the fact that it smells like vinegar that's odd, that and I suppose a lot of folks are used to bubbly drinks having a minimum level of sweetness to them

it's definitely not gross. now if you drink a V-8 without shaking it, that can be kind of overwhleming.
