New Zealand women are being encouraged to act like ladies and not "blokettes" on International Women's Day today.

The National Council of Women said New Zealand women were blazing across political and economic barriers, but socially seemed to be confusing empowerment with what had been historically classed as the domain of stereotypical male behaviour.

Women needed to realise that empowerment does not disenfranchise them from being a woman, she said.

Ms Low saod women needed to know it was perfectly acceptable to act and behave like a woman and not a "blokette" with something to prove to their male counterparts.

post-work bump. nice thing happened to me tonight: this lesbian couple, who have been regulars of mine at the restaurant ever since i first started there, come in for dinner tonight and gave me hardcover journal that one of the ladies had made for me herself, as a farewell present. it's totally beautiful and really new zealandy-looking. i almost cried. so then i decided to pay for their dinner, and then they almost cried. it was an emotional night.

it is things like this which waitressing not such a bad gig.

xpost Yes, max - I listened. I got my husband to come into my office and listen, too - although he was mostly busy tearing apart a paper I wrote. But I enjoyed it. (Even though my Sound Sticks are STILL not functioning with my computer for some reason, dammit)

also we watched an episode of SBTB where screech fucks up buying some tickets to a U2 concert and an infomercial for some colon cleanser where the words "impacted fecal matter" scrolled across the bottom of the screen about a dozen times not to mention however many times they actually said it out loud
