do you mean i should pay off any debt i have before i come? at this stage i think the only (LOL@ 'only') debt i'll have will be my student loan (around NZ$35, 000) which has pretty good repayment terms while i'm overseas. if necessary i may have a little credit card debt, but that seems unlikely at this stage. i have my laptop/camera/mp3 player hp'd but i'll be leaving money in a nz account to cover that.

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

yeah because whatever you make while you're here will pay off less and less of any foreign debt as time goes on. because this country is fucked.

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

I am envying people going out and drinking! I am going to stay in and behave.

Rubyredd, thanks for your thoughts about my kitty. And I think you should pay off debts as soon as humanly possible because I am just like that. I don't like borrowing money and I REALLY don't like paying interest.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:31 (eighteen years ago)

yeah but the nz dollar is shit against the us dollar, and probably always will be, so i'm still sitting pretty. i'm gonna be a letterpress printer, so i'm gonna be poor wherever i live.

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:38 (eighteen years ago)

Considering the state of the US dollar, that is not so great for NZ. But hopefully will continue to be good for you!

Being a letterpress printer sounds kinda exotic.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

only exotic if you find ink and sweat a turn on. which i do.

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

post rehearsal bump

HI DERE, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:30 (eighteen years ago)

post risotto bump (and I made a DAMN good risotto from scratch tonight and you're all jealous)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:37 (eighteen years ago)

xxpost exotic/erotic whatever

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:37 (eighteen years ago)

exotic/erotic whatever

This should be on your business card.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

it probably will be

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

attempting to letterpress print porn could be interesting

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

it would be some fucking expensive porn

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

why is sandwiches the only kind of food internet people ever talk about

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

shit is retarded and making me hate the word sandwich. I followed some buzzfeed link from jon or someone today and one of the top things in the sidebar was all "Incredible Bullshit Sandwich!" or some such and I was like "fuck this I am not eating any more sandwiches you goddamn bloggers"

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

no offense Ned

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

because everything tastes better between two pieces of bread

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

i think maybe it's a new hipster thing or somesuch but i'm not entirely sure, since i'm not a hipster.

Rubyredd, Friday, 7 March 2008 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

I will talk about fondue if you want, Tom. Although I think I'm just going to make a Superpretzel in the toaster oven and eat it with some cream cheese.

Rubyredd, maybe you could supply John with letterpress porn for his store. It could have - as suggested Sat. night - music stuff, a side liquor business, and also porn with SPECIALTY porn. I also think part of the music business should be a d.j. service for less traditional weddings and events.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

GAH, I'M STARVING, WHY AM I SITTING HERE COMING UP WITH NEW BUSINESSES FOR JOHN AND RUBYREDD?!

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 05:13 (eighteen years ago)

no offense Ned

Oh no worries.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:10 (eighteen years ago)

it is not only sandwiches people talk about on the internet, it is also cupcakes. i think it is some sort of regressive childhood comfort food thing.

or, most people do not actually know very much about food, but they want to imply they know something grand and impressive, because they have been eating it all their lives, so they pick the most accessible, banal, and non-challenging food and try to imply they're brillat-fucking-savarin.

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:15 (eighteen years ago)

still, i like sandwiches a lot

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:16 (eighteen years ago)

it's another one of those things where I'm like ok you can go to an establishment and have a man with dirty hands make you a sandwich for $8-10 with tip or you can buy a sirloin, take it home, and make yourself a motherfucking steak dinner for the same price if not less, you know? people be not raising their children proper, and in this case really "raising your children proper" means not much more than "buying them a good frying pan and a copy of HTCE when you kick them out of the house"

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:19 (eighteen years ago)

that said tonight I am too lazy to make a steak so it is going to be charcuterie & whatever cheese ain't moldy yet platter

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

mom didnt buy me htce she probably didnt know wtf that was

jergïns, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

i sort of want to open a pizza parlor

max, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

wise words.

tonight the gays got all pissed off at me for making posole and guacamole for dinner, which they called 'fancy fucking restaurant shit that looks like crap' and then they refused to eat it and went to mcdonalds. when i told 'em i thought they were being immature, they said they would only eat that kind of thing if, like, a chef had made it. they didn't want

i tried to explain that i was a chef, and that i had worked in restaurant kitchens for years, but they refused to eat it just the same and told me that nobody at home should be cooking anything with more than three ingredients.

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:27 (eighteen years ago)

what kind of fucked up culinary era are we in when people distrust home-cooked comfort food made by a guy with kitchen training in favor of deep-fried fast food?

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:28 (eighteen years ago)

remy you make all these people up

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:31 (eighteen years ago)

remy, please bring your posole and guacamole to Northfield, MN immediately; I promise it will be appreciated.

max - running a restaurant is teh suck. I'd advise against it based on my father's experience (which admittedly I only experienced as his daughter and a waitress/kitchen slave, but still).

jergins/tom - I'm SURE my mother still doesn't know what HTCE is, but that might be why she's such a bad cook. We just bought HTCE a few weeks ago, actually.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

you would say that about jon too, but he posts here

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

oh wait, steve shasta and jaxon have met a bunch of these crazy gay cuzzins

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:35 (eighteen years ago)

DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUNKKKKKKKKKKKK

John Justen, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:37 (eighteen years ago)

WHOO HOO!

John Justen, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:38 (eighteen years ago)

oh sorry i didn't read the thread hello are we all happy?

John Justen, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:38 (eighteen years ago)

Well obviously YOU are.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

did any of you northfield people ever know a kid with the last name 3nn1s?

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

I have no idea why that sounds familiar. I'm not from here originally; I just kind of wound up here at college and then stayed due to circumstances. Sometimes I feel like I recognize every person in town, though.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

the father chairs the math department at one of the colleges?

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmmm. Okay... I know a couple of math profs, but that name isn't familiar.

My one semester of calc did kind of drive me away from math classes forever, I confess.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:43 (eighteen years ago)

All that being said, if I saw the person I might recognize them, especially if there were at Carleton. My husband works in the same building that houses the math dept. there.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:44 (eighteen years ago)

huh. how long ago? i was a momentary math major at carleton, but i don't recall the name from there

i did also drink a lot, and i am drunk now, so my testimony? QUESTIONABLE

John Justen, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:44 (eighteen years ago)

WHOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!

John Justen, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:45 (eighteen years ago)

i go to bed now. whoooo. oh boy

John Justen, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:45 (eighteen years ago)

my friend gr3g0ry 3nnis is from n-field, but he is only 28. i also went to college with a k4rst3n 1und, from n-field, and he won a writing award i wanted dearly.

remy bean, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:47 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha, I must have missed John's moment of math-major-ing. I remember English and then physics and that's it. And I can definitely vouch for him drinking a lot.

Good night John, btw!

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:47 (eighteen years ago)

I lol'd at 'fancy fucking restaurant shit that looks like crap'.

also: finished workk for the weekk!

But i got to catch up on some fucking study this weekend. I fucking hate it >:(

W4LTER, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

xpost I feel like those names are familiar, but I don't know WHY! Maybe I need to read the Northfield News more closely. Although this last one had a completely irritating article about a close friend's ex-bf, who I don't particularly like that I can only describe as a hagiography.

remy, I'll try to figure out if I have a clue who those people are.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 March 2008 06:49 (eighteen years ago)

i swear i was going to leave rap producer thread alone, but prefuse 73 dude left me with no choice in the matter ok srsly gnight
