do you mean i should pay off any debt i have before i come? at this stage i think the only (LOL@ 'only') debt i'll have will be my student loan (around NZ$35, 000) which has pretty good repayment terms while i'm overseas. if necessary i may have a little credit card debt, but that seems unlikely at this stage. i have my laptop/camera/mp3 player hp'd but i'll be leaving money in a nz account to cover that.

yeah because whatever you make while you're here will pay off less and less of any foreign debt as time goes on. because this country is fucked.
