Another hour yet... bump

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sitting here trying to write a reflection paper, but mostly distracting myself by online shopping at Amazon.com because I have a gift certificate and some birthday money STILL...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

nice

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, yeah, now I got distracted from shopping for myself by trying to sort what book I should get for Alex about BODY CHANGES and related info.

So I'm reading Amazon.com reviews, and the same books will get both "OMG THIS IS TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR MY DELICATE LITTLE CHILD" and "OMG THIS BOOK WILL SCARE THEM AWAY FROM ANY KIND OF SEX THOUGHT FOREVER" reviews.

Meanwhile, I'm just trying to process the notion that my little guy who was once 4 and a half pounds in the NICU is going to have facial hair someday. WAHT

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

I still can't believe my little cousins are both in COLLEGE and one is GRADUATING this year.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

yeah - it's CRAZY. I have a cousin who has graduated from college who I swear I think of as being in 8th grade.

The HE WAS MY TINY BABY thing is even more disorienting - if you can even imagine that!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

"He was my tiny baby... now he has PUBIC HAIR"

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

I CAN'T EVEN GO THERE, DUDE

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

You're gonna have to someday!

Well okay, maybe not literally "go there", that would be incest. But it's gonna happen!

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

(this is the thread where I gloat about the fact that I don't live within smacking distance of my high school friends)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

YOU'LL BE BACK AGAIN SOMEDAY, MY FRIEND. YOU WILL

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Yeah, I really have to adjust to this Imminent Puberty thing. I'm just SO not ready!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

BUT I am going to get him a book anyway, which is a lot better than the whole hearing about periods at school, basically out of nowhere thing.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Or the fact that my mom decided that the time to address the question of sex and birth control with me was right after I'd had my SECOND baby. (I was THIRTY YEARS OLD, FFS. And there were FOUR years between my kids; obviously I had the birth control thing down by then!!!)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

My sex talk with my daad went like this:

DAD: Son, where did you get this? (pulls out ridiculously dirty sex-ed book complete with ludicrously graphic illustrations that I swiped from the HSTNGS library)
ME: Uh, the library...?
DAD: Son, I want you to know that you can want to talk to girls, and kiss on girls, and even rub up on girls, but when she says, "NO," she means it.
ME: ... Okay, Dad!
DAD: I'm keeping this book.
ME: (awwwwww...) Okay.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

(I think I was 12 at the time.)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

lolz, that is awesome

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

hahahahahha your dad is so awesome xpost

John Justen, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

Mom: You know... breastfeeding isn't adequate birth control.

Me: WHAT?! I AM THIRTY MOM, DO YOU REALLY WANT TO TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS NOW?!!!!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

I was kind of livid, actually. Plus I don't think A.'s vasectomy was a big secret, so what the heck was that even about?!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I was sooooo biting my tongue against saying something like, "don't you think Heather is the one who needs to hear this...?"

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

Mom: You know... breastfeeding isn't adequate birth control.

You know, whenever I think of "breastfeeding" the first phrase that pops into my head is "inadequate birth control".

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

Personally, I always think of "hey, I finally had boobs!" - but I suppose it is an individual thing.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

i think "ian reise-moraine"

max, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

"He'll never notice anything is different!"

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

This is a good idea if you want him to think that all women know how to stripperdance and are secretly men.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

So you're saying those things aren't true then.

LIFE HAS A LOT OF SHOCKS IN STORE FOR YOU, YOUNG MR. PERRY

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

I know the stripperdance part is true.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

Because you were a glutton for Democratic Party self-loathing and melodramatic despair?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 05:30 (eighteen years ago)

today:

woke up next to a clear cold stream, bottle of jack at my feet.
weird memories of dream, including the quote 'fat people are more likely to get stung by bees' also strange reminiscence of a fugue about a boat tossed about on a wild river, and 'brycer' getting away in time.

drove 20 miles to trailhead in big sur, hiked:

http://www.mw-scenicphotos.com/BigSur/JuliaPfeiffer/wBigSur990520.jpg

and startled three deer, a golden eagle (first i've ever seen) as well as three million smaller birds

drove to daly city, got out and talked to the construction foreman at the devil's slide highway project/tunnel/bridge and gave him my trader joe's ginger snap cookies in exchange for a private 'tour' on a bridge over this massive creepy chasm.

arrived at my cousin's house in berkeley, hung out with his newest sugar baby, sweet canadian kid named D., but got told to disappear for two hours while they finished their "video" project.

went to shakespeare and co. bookstore, bought milovarad paviç's 'dictionary of the kazars' and read three chapters

watched american idol in the castro w. cousin, sugar-baby, and a friend at some weirdo gay-bar, got three drinks bought for free, but left before things got too fruity for my taste
