HI DERE, Friday, 22 February 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

wtf. the state offices shut down, and the news is saying if you're at work you should go home now. WHY IS BU STILL OPEN??? WHY AM I STILL HERE??????

jessie monster, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, is it snowing there or are you under attack by Aqua Teen Hunger Force again?

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:21 (eighteen years ago)

it is snowing. we definitely wouldn't get to go home for a terrorist attack.

jessie monster, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

What was I thinking? THAT WOULD MEAN THE TERRORISTS WIN

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

I hope you don't have to go too far in too much snow, jessie. Can you just stay in a friend's dorm room if you get stuck?

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

(This is one of my fears about going to school an hour from my house... being stuck in the Cities overnight without a toothbrush.)

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not that far, I just know the T is going to be a total bitch at 5.

jessie monster, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:32 (eighteen years ago)

Well, that doesn't sound fun. Are you working or do you have to stay for a class? (Not that I'm advocating cutting class here...)

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I think my copy of MS Word is traumatized by all the stuff I've been downloading and printing. I opened up a new document and went to save it as "FINAL GIFTS PAPER" - and the application just quit on me. I didn't even have any text in it yet!

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

On the brighter side, it's not snowing here and I don't have anywhere I really have to be until tomorrow morning.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

...and I'm just bumping bumping bumping because I don't want to read my homework; I'd rather try to persuade jessie to cut class, leave work early, or possibly buy an emergency toothbrush.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'm worrrking. :/

jessie monster, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

Ugh. That is the worst. Inconvenience due to Making More Money/Keeping Boss Happy...

At least you don't have to drive yourself in it...?

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

going home at 4!

jessie monster, Friday, 22 February 2008 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

YAY!

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

i wroted some good stuff today, chipped a big scene out of the novel. i am increasingly relying on the i ching for advice about my book-writing habits.

case in point: i have been feeling increasingly writers' blocked by a specific insecurity about the pacing of the story (we don't meet the protag. until the third chapter; the first two chapters are the saga of his parents' meeting and dissolving marriage, and i'm worried they're boring, incidental -- writing on them is super-slow and frustrating) and so i threw the yarrow sticks and asked the oracle (hah) if i should continue with the first two sections or give up, move on to the main serious story and come back later.

i got the ninth hexagram, Hsiao Chu, Minor Domestication, which offered interpetations like:

The kettle sits on the stove, but the water will not boil. Clouds come from the west, but the land remains like a desert; we must drink the tea lukewarm. We will find success in accomplishing smaller and lesser things; as for serious matter, it is advised to wait until another day to move forward.

and

Move ahead, but as difficulties come, slow down, be less forceful and more thoughtful. By using moderation you avoid the constant stress Which can wear you down and lessen your effectiveness. Rushing blindly ahead for a quick victory causes continual friction which saps energy.

and

A small farm can be successful. Thick clouds, no rain.

Off the highway, off the road
A trail is blazed through the woods
Useless the wheel with no spokes
The blood of a gelding flows
Rich by association
Downpour someday sure to come

Wind over heaven.

Clouds that bring no rain. Fretful anticipation and discord. Perhaps the smallness of the farm makes drought less catastrophic.

The prognosis is uncertain. But don't sell out.

remy bean, Friday, 22 February 2008 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

philip k. dick used to use the i ching to write his books, especially man in the high castle

max, Friday, 22 February 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

I had no clue people used the I Ching for writing purposes. Probably because I know nothing about the I Ching.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure APA formatting is going to drive me to run away from school and become a trucker by the end of this semester.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

WE GOT A GREAT BIG CONVOY ALL ACROSS THE LAND WE GOT A GREAT BIG CONVOY SARA MAIL DAN POOP

John Justen, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

Well, if I was really a trucker I could just drop packages off easily wherever I was going, couldn't I.

You'd still have to do your own poop deliveries, though, John. I always try to humor you, but I do have to draw the line somewhere.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

hey guys we remixed jaymc's band. I came in second to last place ;_;

John Justen, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

The reason I won't go to trucking school with John is that I fear what he will fill his trucks with.

Sara R-C, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

dumps like a truck truck truck

John Justen, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

^^^^ still my favorite poster

El Tomboto, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

(it is secretly even cooler when you find out that I did not use any synths or drums or anything that wasn't from the original source material. everything is just canasta samples + fx)

El Tomboto, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

I just listened to it and I thought it was very good. I have no idea what the source material sounded like, so no sense of the change, but still. Would listen again!

(I have now bumped the thread with a recent photo of my insane daughter. Yes, the fringe on her hat is coming apart, but she seems to like it that way.)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 23 February 2008 01:04 (eighteen years ago)

who doesn't love a shiny pink coat? NO ONE!

lxy, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

She abuses that coat, but I think she secretly loves it.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

remy bean, Saturday, 23 February 2008 05:13 (eighteen years ago)

I don't even know who that is!

NOW WHO'S MILDLY RETARDED

Sara R-C, Saturday, 23 February 2008 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

Oh wait, it's me. ;_;

Sara R-C, Saturday, 23 February 2008 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

Last bump before sleep; I have school from 9 until 4 tomorrow so I have to get up early... good night all

Sara R-C, Saturday, 23 February 2008 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

Ick.

I just watched

'Evil'
'1001 Nights'
'Ravenous'

in under an hour with my tivo on ff, skipping to the decent parts

remy bean, Saturday, 23 February 2008 07:15 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, it's going to be fun. We spend a decent amount of time examining mannequins that have blood pressures and pulses, and it's kind of hilarious. (By 4 I'll be good and ready to go home, don't get me wrong.)

lol at "decent parts" of those... movies? Shows? My Netflix queue is nearly 500 movies long and I have yet to hear of any of your entertainment, remy!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 23 February 2008 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

riduculous animal observation 1:

i watched a squirrel sleeping on a branch in the sun in a tree across the alley.

this is weird because normally squirrels are very busy all the time.

it was probably the same squirrel that jumped on my arm last summer. crazy fucking squirrel.

lxy, Saturday, 23 February 2008 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

riduculous (apparently that is a word) animal observation 2:

i watched a lady taking a leisurely stroll with her enormous orange cat.

people walking cats is riduculous.

it seems to be a very well-behaved cat. probably this is because it is too enormous to run away.

lxy, Saturday, 23 February 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

(lintberg is a fan of animals. he is also a fan of riduculous observations. i hope he finds these observations mollifying.)
