TO MOLLIFY LINGJACKSON OVERDRIVEBERT WHO IS THE SQUEAKY BO, POST ON THIS THREAD AND ONE OF YOUR FRIENDLY ITR MODS WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE WICKED AWESOME, AND POSSIBLY OFFER AN EFFUSIVE STATEMENT OF HOW IT WOULD BE ABSURD TO SAY YOU COULDN'T, I DON'T KNOW, STICK SOMETHING UNDER THE FINGERNAIL, SMACK HIM IN THE FACE

tent. proposal

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

I should really read that thread more carefully, but I'm trying to avoid headaches.

I also endorse John's thread title suggestion, but am saddened that Scalia himself will never see it. ;_;

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

NO NO NO DO NOT READ THAT THREAD

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

It's sweet that you are trying to protect me from myself, but it's probably a wasted effort.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

in a perfect world that thing would have been pipecock.jpged into oblivion by now srsly

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

i mean if you have a few hours to kill and want to watch people alternate between high-fiving each other and rallying around a flag of cranky illogic that cannot be surmounted by rational thought, be my guest

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

I'm srsly trying to decide whether that sounds better or worse than my intended evening plan of laundry, treadmill, study study study.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:36 (eighteen years ago)

one day until i am the only non-married person in my family

remy bean, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

They're getting married on Valentine's Day?! Um... wow.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

oh no that is an awful awful choice

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

admittedly, proposing on valentines day = somehow worse i think

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

so glad i am dating someone who has the same ewwwwwwwww reaction to valentines day that i do

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

try working at a restaurant on v-day. fucking horrendous night ahead of me.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

I don't really hate Valentine's Day; I just think it seems like asking for trouble to get married (or propose on - John's right) that particular day. I don't know if that is cynicism or what.

Yeah, it's a manufactured day to make people buy stuff, but a lot of people get into it and you don't really want to make it worse if, say, you're one of the 50% of marriages that dissolve.

(Am I too cynical?)

Rubyredd - I'm so sorry; that is not going to be fun.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

I used to work at a bookstore, and around Valentine's Day we always sold out of Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. This made me want to smack everyone on earth.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

oh THAT made you want to smack everyone on earth. WELL

El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE!!! That's what I think! Et cetera!

El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

I flipped off the sky twice today because of the weather

El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:27 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Many things make me want to smack everyone on earth, Tombot. That one just stands out for this particular time of year.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:29 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry your weather is sucking.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:30 (eighteen years ago)

they are just having their "visa wedding" in the living room with a justice of the peace: the real wedding will be next summer. but to a brother...

remy bean, Thursday, 14 February 2008 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

hey the scalia thread started to suck less while i was gone

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

just don't load the 300 posts in the middle and it might even be stomachable

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

hello

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

wait i should be letting this lapse in order to get the new title in place

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

of course, by saying that (and this) i am defeating my own goals

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 03:41 (eighteen years ago)

It makes me feel better about myself to see the visual evidence of John monologuing.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

Hello

W4LTER, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

remy bean, Thursday, 14 February 2008 06:44 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Sara + Remy

Choose Leif, Thursday, 14 February 2008 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

Did I tell you guys I shaved my head??

My gf wanted me to do it.

It's pretty short, like no. 1 length.

I kind of hate it.

W4LTER, Thursday, 14 February 2008 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

My head isn't ridiculously mong-shaped so it could be worse :-/

W4LTER, Thursday, 14 February 2008 06:50 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Choose Leif!

W4LTER - sorry you hate it - maybe you'll get used to it?! My husband is constantly shaving his hair off; the first time he did it I thought it was crazy, but now I like it that way.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

hi leif

remy bean, Thursday, 14 February 2008 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

I am going to hang up my line-dry laundry and go to sleeeeep...

Good night, ITR. Sweet dreams. (OF GRAPEFRUIT!)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 07:17 (eighteen years ago)

hi all.

i think lxy should turn up at her work's valentine's shindig with cochineal stained teeth, carrying an empty plate with a few red crumbs scattered on it.

(lxy, i will send you email.)

good night sara!

estela, Thursday, 14 February 2008 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

just watched "King Of Kong" and it is unbelievably good.

John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 07:25 (eighteen years ago)

jesus fucking christ they finally released info tonight about the 12 month work visa to the US. would like to know how ridiculously expensive it is? yes? i thought so:

Costs of Work USA Plus

Program Fee $995
Visa Fee $170.30
Sevis Fee
(Student & Exchange Visitor
Information System) $TBA

Proof of Funds:
• with pre-arranged job US$1,000
• without pre-arranged job US$2,000

Flight to LA Approx $1,899
(incl.taxes)
QBE Comprehensive Insurance for 12 months $1,670

Rubyredd, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

also: that price list does not include the airfare to auckland for the visa interview, or the SECOND airfare to auckland for the compulsory pre-departure orientation (about $200 for each of those flights).

WTF with orientation??? i've watched shitloads of american tv, i don't need a goddamn orientation.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

so my calculations come to about $8,000. at best, i had planned on having about $6000 by the beginning of april.

any rich dudes reading ilx, you can paypal me donations.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 14 February 2008 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

Paging rich dudes: we need to import Rubyredd!!! (bump)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

Dear United States of America,

Please let our Rubyredd in for cheaper, because we really want her to be nearby.

Thank you for considering.

ITR Representative

lxy, Thursday, 14 February 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks John. Dan - Wow, lol. lxy - good idea!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 14 February 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

ruby, i know this doesn't make it any better for you, but some of those costs are in NZdollars, right?

also, have you always been 100% commited to coming over legally or have you ever thought about showing up as a tourist and overstaying your visa? (not recommending, just wondering what your thought process has been)
