now i am going to complain about valentine's day. i don't really like it, it depresses me a little bit. it all seems so unimaginative and desperate and exploitative, people clutching roses that will never open and eating terrible set menu dinners.

estela, I am with you on the flowers, though (THEY WILL DIE!) - and we never go out on the actual day because restaurants are too busy. (Uh, actually, we almost never even manage to go out for dinner on our anniversary, either; Other Stuff always comes up).

I think our mutual loathing of Valentine's Day was one of the things that A. and I first talked about when we met. V-Day was coming up and we were like, ARGH I HATE THAT DAY. I left for an event for the weekend and got back to find that he had left me a card on my door. I think it was a homemade card, made with black glue. ("Dries to a bright neon color!" Neon... black? wtf)

I reciprocated by making a National Grapefruit Day card for him and slipping it under his door.

I'm pretty sure these cards are somewhere in our house now.

Also, we don't really hate Valentine's Day anymore, but I think we just don't care about it much. National Grapefruit Month should get more attention.
