Family stuff is complicated enough without completely estranged, apparently clueless family members randomly appearing at your work. The guy obviously doesn't know how to approach you, or understand that it's possible that you don't want him to do so.

yeah, basically he's incredibly narcissistic and thoughtless, which is one of the reasons i haven't seen him in so long. he wants everything on his own terms, and when i refused to go along with that, that was the end of it. i told my boss to make sure that everyone knows not to give out any of my details - contact info or work schedule - if he comes back.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that, Rubyredd. Just showing up like that out of the blue, without warning you in advance, was pretty thoughtless, I think.
