three declarative statements about Philadelphia

i've got an hour layover @ philly airport, on my way home to visit family for a somewhat unexpected wedding in RI.

the westbound runway approach over the gleamy-industrial shipyards is really beautiful at sunset, in a charles sheeler sort of way.

i have not been to to this city since i was eleven, and i wish i had longer today -- it looks like somewhere i might enjoy.

and an unrelated question:

how long is it acceptable to avoid opening an email you know is going to bitch at you really badly? (and for something you really don't deserve?) is it acceptable to just delete it without reading it? or will it continue to be an object of obsession, even after it's scorched from my inbox?

remy - I would probably just delete it, at least if you think you can avoid the person bitching at you. On the other hand, you might save yourself some trouble if you just read the email and then go ahead and confront the person who wrote it to you - but in person. It kinda depends on the situation.

boredom killed me long ago, i was fifteen and working in a bakery, a customer requested a 'sesame street' loaf and laughed heartily thinking they were the first to ever do so, it did me in, now i am a typing wraith.

I think I might have died of boredom when I was at home with Alex when he was a baby. Basically you are imagining that I am alive and typing this.

THIS DAY! after the shit week i had, it amazes.

my precinct went 60 for obama, 10 for clinton (which translates into 6 delegates and 1 delegate). initially there were 6 undecideds, but by the end 5 had chosen obama. i checked two other precinct results, and both were overwhelmingly for obama (though not so much as mine). i have never been so happy with my neighborhood as i am today.

also, after signing in at the caucus but before proceedings began, i went to a frock shop which was having an artist salon, signed up for a prize drawing, and won a prize worth $500. (a man will come to my house, digitize photos of my choosing, and turn them into a movie or slideshow set to music of my choice. iwould never pay for such a thing, but it seems like maybe a good gift for parents?)

and then after caucusing, i went to the liquor store where the clerk who first disparaged me for not liking tequila ended by saying, "well, you do have good taste in liquor." this makes me unreasonably happy.

mystery-shopper is someone who comes to the store, pretends to be a customer and then sends a report in about your performance. 84% is pretty shit, since most of the girls average 94-100%. but then again, i don't really give a fuck, since i'm leaving soon! but i seriously wish i could find another job for the next two months. nothing in the paper today, and i kinda feel bad getting a new job and then ditching it so quickly.

and lxy thanks for your luck offerings. what i need to keep reminding myself is that i AM lucky, really, and i should stop taking shit so seriously.

i do have some pretty cool news: i've been invited to participate in an international letterpress printing project with some people i have a great deal of respect for. i'm the least experienced, so it's quite a privilege to have been asked.

xpost I have always wanted to BE a mystery shopper, but yeah, I totally feared them when I worked in retail. But I don't know that I ever had a mystery shopper encounter.

Of course, at Victoria's Secret, the most interesting customers were not ones who would have been mystery shoppers. Strippers, transvestites, and superclueless men were the most memorable.

also, more good news: i am getting a care package of cool stuff from jordan tomorrow. and he also bought me a fucking awesome signed and numbered blaine fontana print. AND a hardcover copy of '25 years' by mary ellen mark. AND i'm getting a surprise graduation present.

Yes, I worked at Victoria's Secret for about a year. I did get tons of cheap underwear, and the bra thing was great. BUT then I decided to have a baby and those bras were never going to fit again. (I'm not complaining, though, since I'll admit having the experience of having a bit more on top was pretty cool). Back when I worked at Victoria's Secret, we were required to wear a SKIRT or DRESS to work!

i don't know what it IS, i just know that i'm getting one. god, i love presents so much.

THAT SEEMED KIND OF CRAZY. (ALSO, IT WAS CRAZY, AND THEY DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE.)
