lxy, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

Mark C, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 07:57 (eighteen years ago)

even though i am blushing furiously and feeling very uncomfortable i intend to graciously accept these accolades and not succumb to the urge to denigrate my achievement so, difficult though this is for me, i thank you, one and all.

estela, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

all hearts and flowers and kudos? YES!

lxy, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

BOVRIL

John Justen, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

IT IS HERE

John Justen, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

so i dissolve this in something, yes?

(no urgency, i'm at work so experiments will have to wait their turn)

John Justen, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

HOT BOVRILLED RUM

John Justen, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

oh god

jergïns, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

John, there are 2 ways to consume Bovril:

1) make a tasty hot drink by dissolving however much of the it it suggests in boiling water

2) (and this is the good one) toast some fresh white bread, butter (or margarine) generously, and while still as hot as possible, spread bovril very thinly - most of the bread should be visible through the bovril. If the bovril is completely opaque at any point it's too thick. I reckon you'd need less than half a teaspoonful per slice.

Mark C, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

2) should be the method for all three on toast when the judgment day arrives, as it will: the mills of itr grind slowly but they grind exceedingly small.

estela, Thursday, 1 May 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

Gah, estela, you have ruined my plan: that m- and v-mite would suffer through over-application, and subtle, sexy bovril would be the only sensible alternative for new, tastier America.

Mark C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously people, eat the spreads already. I need feedback!

Mark C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

I've started eating kangaroo since my try-hard gourmand friend convinced me it's better for teh environment, leaner, reasonably priced etc.

Estela, you in on the kangaroo steak action at all??

wilter, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

I remember eating 'kanga bangas' and they were fucking awful, but I can hack the steakz.

wilter, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

(i thought this an appropriate place to start roo meat discussion)

wilter, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:51 (eighteen years ago)

why not?

eat the spreads already.

i was thinking i needed to try all at the same time in order not to be prejudiced. is that wrong?

jergïns, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

is it quite gamey-tasting? i've never had it.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

bovril tastes like ox not rabbit!!

jergïns, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, It is a bit gamey tasting but it is very much a red meat. You can't overcook it, it dries out really easily. I find it to be like super-lean lamb.

wilter, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

please do

jergïns, Friday, 2 May 2008 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

net images/postcards don't really do his work justice. i saw his exhibition last year and it was AMAZING. he really captures that latent 'settler nightmare' or colonial gothic image of nz, and avoids the stereotypical tacky icons.

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

soooooo serious
Is there an age before which children shouldn't have Marmite?

jergïns, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:39 (eighteen years ago)
