Yes, I am still up, but about to go up to bed. I meant to go a while ago, but I got hypnotized by the internets. LAME

I'm going to go sleep now, knowing that we have tragically been defeated by the thread title yet again. ;_;

Sara R-C, Sunday, 20 January 2008 08:08 (eighteen years ago)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 20 January 2008 08:09 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Sunday, 20 January 2008 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 20 January 2008 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Sunday, 20 January 2008 11:00 (eighteen years ago)

jessie monster, Sunday, 20 January 2008 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

I have to go to a birthday party at my sister's in-law's house this afternoon. I totally dread these events (i.e. socialize with a large extended family in HSTNGS!). I'm going to hide behind a book or possibly a knitting project.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 20 January 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

painful pizza-mouth bump

remy bean, Sunday, 20 January 2008 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

and all the geniuses.

estela, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

John, give it a few more days; A. was sick for 5 before he felt even halfway decent and then his head was still stuffed up for another 4 or 5. (FUN! Minnesota viruses are so serious).

Dan, sounds like fun!

Everyone else - HI!

Sara R-C, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

The kids have no school until Wednesday, but I think I may have found a way to go out on Tues. night by myself and see Cloverfield. Assuming that the kids don't kill me before then.

Sara R-C, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

i jsut woke up from a dream where i was in hawaii, with gr8080, el tomboto and john justen. my laptop is on on my bed and open, but i got get back to sleep. mroe details tomorrow. it waS AN extremely werid dream!!!!!!!!

Rubyredd, Monday, 21 January 2008 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

but ashit i'm gonna forget this stuff. ok john justen was trying to get us all drunk. gr8080 had an ENFORMOUS great dane that was ADHD and wouldn't leave me alone. OH MY GOD i just remembeered ned was there too! and curtis! we were talking about the smasking pumpkins and how veveryone bags them out but billy corgan is an awesome guitarist. gr8080 i remembered was being mean to me about sometihng but i can't remember what but i was mad at him. sara you were there too! i just remembered! we were in an elvator at one point and we could see fireworkds coming out of this crater, and grady was like yeah it is for mlk day, which weirded me sinc3 i 'm in new zealand. and then the lift broke so john climbed up through the top to fix it, he was playing with th cables which worried me because he didnt seem like the sor tof person who actually knew how to fix an elevator.

ok going to sleep for realz fthis time.

Rubyredd, Monday, 21 January 2008 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

hahahahaha.

I'm all for Hawaii with you guys, but I draw the line at letting John fix the elevator.

Sara R-C, Monday, 21 January 2008 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that seems like a total recipe for disaster.

Breaking into a sauna, OTOH...

HI DERE, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

You have to let John go where his talents are.

Sara R-C, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

JESUS. i was half asleep when i wrote that. glad i did though, because otherwise i would have forgotten it. i think trayce and roxy were in it too -it was the ilx MEGA DREAM!!

i need to spend less time on the internet.

Rubyredd, Monday, 21 January 2008 19:00 (eighteen years ago)

ILX dreams are always the weirdest. I blame the fact that I have them so often on the fact that ILX is one of my "I don't want to go to sleep yet" procrastinating mechanisms.

I had a ridiculous dream last night about Cloverfield. Yes, a nightmare and I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN IT YET. I kept waking up and then falling back asleep... back to the nightmare. THIS MADE ME WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE MORE.

Sara R-C, Monday, 21 January 2008 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

I still feel compelled to mollify lingbert

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

good faith who cares about the broek title bump

John Justen, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 06:12 (eighteen years ago)

LOL i am reading an article about 'virtual communities and network society' for class tomorrow... it argues against those who say the diffusion of the internet has crippled face-to-face, irl, socialising. it is wrong - why leave the house when you can sit at home, in bed, drinking tea/whiskey, smoking tobacco (i r classy) and talking on the webs???

i actually went and hung out with an actual friend in the actual real world today. it was charming, in a quaint, squeeee kinda way. he lent me the matrix trilogy.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

oh the reason i had the mad ilx dream was because i consumed about 200gm of milk choc right before i went to sleep. ppl say it's bullshit that dairy gives you crazy dreams, but it does it to me every time.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmmmm, last night I dreamt that Caledonia (John's gf, occasional ILXor) was my roommate and that we had a small fuschia cat that looked like a stuffed animal, but wasn't. I would blame this on something I ate or drank, but I think I'll just blame it on talking to John before bed. (John appeared as a minor character in the dream, with questionable taste in clothing.)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I would totally leave the house if I could, but much of the time I have to stay home with the kids. I don't mind staying home and chatting on the internets, but omg do I want to get out. (I may be a distorted data point, though, since I've been a SAHM for the past 10 years and it seems like I'm becoming more extroverted over time.)

My classes start next week, so thank goodness for upcoming FOR REALZ interactions.

(But of course I love you all, too, and will still hang around ITR and complain that I have too much homework or whatever.)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Last night I dreamt somebody loved me.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

gross

John Justen, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

John loves you; he just doesn't want to admit it. He is very stubborn.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

John is wrong; it was not Mary Gross.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

If we have to narrow it down by guessing, it's going to take a long time. There are 3 billion women on the planet!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

I just remembered that J031 was in my dream, too. She was insistent that I not drink strawberry milk. I don't know why, because it wasn't like I was drinking anything!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

She probably didn't want to see you make a horrible, horrible decision.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

did she give you that look??

lxy, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

She might have given me that look, but it is a little weird since I would never consider drinking strawberry milk in the first place. But I appreciated her concern.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

how to write a personal statement bump

remy bean, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

I hate doing those. What are you applying for?

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Writing a personal statement is all about the fine art of bullshitting. Your main objectives are:

1. Telling the people reading it how awesome they are.
2. Telling the people reading it how awesome you are.
3. Telling the people reading it that they and they alone are capable of taking your already-awesome self and transforming it into the most awesomest awesomo that ever awesomed.

Pretty much any fact from your life pertinent to the position you're applying for can be plugged into this framework as long as you are able to shamelessly big-up both the reader and yourself; lying about stuff isn't a good idea because you don't want to get called out on anything. Basically, just look at everything that makes you suitable for the job and ask yourself, "How can I describe this so that the reader thinks they are the smartest, most amazing person in the world for noticing this about me?" Then, describe it that way. Wham, bam, you got yrself an interview.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

Dan should hire himself out to help people write them.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

thanks dan

i am applying for a boarding school (middle school) humanities position, and trying to explain why i have taught at three different schools over three different years, with large gaps in between.

remy bean, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realize folks made personal statements for employment purposes.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't, either. The last personal statement I had to write was an application to the nursing program I'm in. It was optional, which made it more puzzling, not less.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

in those cases, optional = not really optional.

my boyfriend just made me swallow a tablespoon of sugar to get rid of my hiccups and it was awful BUT IT WORKED.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

eww, you kno what's worse tho? Chewing mylanta tablets :( Chalky badness. :(

W4LTER, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, my whole attitude, was, "optional?!" Uh... what? They claimed that the main criteria was GPA, but then why ask for a personal statement at all. So I did it. Blah.

A bartender showed me a cool trick to get rid of hiccups: put angostora bitters on a lemon slice and then suck on that. It works!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

(I imagine it would work without the bitters, too, actually)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

ughhh recently I had heartburn (lol hi I am a 21-year-old 80-year-old) and I was forced to eat TWO orange-flavored mylantas. ultimate sadface.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

angostora-whatsuh?
