JJ i have a guitar-related question/s for you:
my guy has a guitar and it is his beloved. but it is old and kinda fucked. a long time ago he told me that one of the best gifts you can get for a guitar player is to take their guitar to a shop and get stuff done to it. but i don't remember what stuff. like tuning and stuff i guess. or something.

so my question is: could i just take his guitar into a guitar shop and say 'do stuff to it' or do i need to specify?

and my 2nd question: i don't suppose you are familiar with good guitar places in oakland? i am scared to take it to someone who is crap and ends up fucking his guitar.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 10 January 2008 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

What you want to do is bring it in and ask for a "setup".

First things first, what kind of guitar is it?

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

ummmmm... a black and green one???

:( i can't remember

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

this is a picture of it, if that helps??

Your guy has lost his socks ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:35 (eighteen years ago)

he rocked his socks off

El Tomboto, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

i'm so glad he doesn't wear those white sports socks pulled up to his knees with shorts

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

btw: "what kind of guitar is it" - i DID know it was electric as opposed to acoustic (i'm not that stupid) i just have no idea about any other type details

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:45 (eighteen years ago)

xpost yes, that is a look that makes one seriously question a man's judgement.

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

oh fucking shit. The shit car salesman who sold me my new car (and accused me of having red hair o_O)has been fired, and now I can't pick up my piece of shit new car til Tuesday, which is v v inconvenient coz I'll be back at work then. u_u

How's everyone holding up anyway?

W4LTER, Friday, 11 January 2008 01:27 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, what is wrong with having red hair?!

I'm sorry about your car-buying troubles.

My husband just bought a used Jetta (since we really do need two cars and the accident last week killed the Accord). I kind of don't want to think about the money parts of this, but that is partly because I'm freaking out about student loans. I think I just need to not think about it.

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 01:54 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, how will you get to work without the new car? So confused now.

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 01:54 (eighteen years ago)

OK, that is either a modded Gibson or Epiphone SG. What you want to ask for is a restring and setup (if they ask, you want it intonated, the action and string height adjusted, and the pickup height adjusted, and the pots and switch cleaned with tuner cleaner). Shouldn't cost more than $50-$75 + cost of strings, even in CA (I charge $24-$36, but It'll be higher there). If they give you any hoodoo voodoo crap beyond that, email me and I'll tell you if they're full of shit.

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 02:01 (eighteen years ago)

thanks heaps, JJ! it won't be for awhile yet, but i just wanted to make sure i know what the hell i'm doing, because if anything happens to that guitar while in my care there will be tears.

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

estela, Friday, 11 January 2008 07:03 (eighteen years ago)

my cat says hello to all of you, via a complicated system of catnip mouse semaphore and meaningful yawning.

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 07:04 (eighteen years ago)

hello little cat

estela, Friday, 11 January 2008 07:07 (eighteen years ago)

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 07:08 (eighteen years ago)

estela, Friday, 11 January 2008 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

estela, Friday, 11 January 2008 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

estela, Friday, 11 January 2008 11:05 (eighteen years ago)

you are absolutely right. i'm just not cut out for this kind of customer service. i want a bookstore. or i want a small letterpress printing studio. i need to buy a lotto ticket tomorrow.

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, can I get a book on guitars, or perhaps brane transplants?

Kerm, Friday, 11 January 2008 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

WORK IS SO BORING WHY AM I NOT AT HOME PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. :(

jessie monster, Friday, 11 January 2008 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

jessie, what kind of job do you do? Maybe we could switch for a day. I'm at home all the time and it is v. boring. Be warned: my house is not very neat and my two kids WILL interrupt your video games.

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

Anybody want to buy a guitar store?

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

...no?

HI DERE, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

damn

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone want to rewrite VB6 DLLs, C# DLLs and SQLServer 2005 stored procedures for me?

HI DERE, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

I hate to do it, but no to both John and Dan. I don't even understand Dan's question!

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

;_;

HI DERE, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry, deX. I might be able to fake John's job for 15 minutes or so, but I don't think I could fake yours for even 15 seconds.

Sadly, this would likely remain true even if I tried to change my major to computer science. I don't think my brane can do it. ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

John, I actually would consider it if I had any business skills whatsoever.

Sarah, I am a receptionist at a university during intersession. It's like not having a job except you can't do anything fun for eight hours a day.

Dan, stop showing off.

At least we cleaned the entire apartment yesterday and now it looks like humans live there.

jessie monster, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, I could totally do yr job for a day, jessie.

My house does not, however, look like humans live in it, so I feel like I should warn you about that.

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

repeating dreams is boring but i don't care and have been very sick so here goes:

last night i had a dream that i told the dancers at my work about ruby's visa problems and they were very sympathetic because they thought she was a dancer and would be joining our company.

after that i had a dream that i went to a record store and estela wrote the pithy comment cards under the new releases, pointing out what i should and shouldn't buy.

jergïns, Friday, 11 January 2008 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

I love it when random ILXors do weird stuff in my dreams. Especially ones I've never met in my life.

I really like the one about the dancers. And estela should write comment cards like that at record stores (or at least someone trustworthy should).

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

I wrote the comment cards for Red Pets until the owner found the one on the Live album that said "If you buy this you are a dick."

John Justen, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

lolz - but your sentiment and belief is so clear!

RIP Red Pets ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

lololololololololol

HI DERE, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

I had a dream the other night that I discovered that Heave Ho was a sockpuppet and there was a very Sherlock Holmes-style "and THAT is how I deduced that Heave Ho was none other than....!!" "*gasp*" "oh you caught me, you bastard!" "*bang bang* *crash*" but I forget who he supposedly was.

jessie monster, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

The most random one I've had with an ILXor in it involved some kind of end of the world scenario. For some reason, Ned showed up in a van and was going to save everyone by COOKING.

So I vote that you thought that Heave Ho was Ned.

Sara R-C, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

awww jergins!

random ilxors pop up in my dreams too. the most recent one featured jesse and we were swimming down at this park not far from my house. it was a very nice relaxing dream (weird, since i'm scared of the water).

Rubyredd, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

omg I think I DID think Heave Ho was Ned.

jessie monster, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

ITR HIVEMIND OMG
