Also, good morning, etc.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, good morning!

I know, right?, Friday, 4 January 2008 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

I totally want to get con elected.

HI DERE, Friday, 4 January 2008 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

It's FB's vision, his dream, his reason to be. Join him!

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

ahhhhhh... thanks FB, i didn't realise that. i figure i need to start learning all this stuff since i'll be living in the US in the very near future.

w4lter, that is a way cool pic of your bro.

Rubyredd, Friday, 4 January 2008 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

To make it even more entertaining, the rules of how caucuses work are completely different depending on what state you are in, and which party the caucus is for! WHOOHOO WACKY AMERICAN SYSTEM!

John Justen, Friday, 4 January 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

You might not actually want to come here, we're kind of stupid.

John Justen, Friday, 4 January 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

i'm getting more and more scared about living in the US, and more and more appreciative of the lifestyle available to NZers. your healthcare system for example: totally fucking wack. it's gonna cost me and the boy an extra $380 p/month to insure me. and the shit that your politicians get away with, with practically zero accountability - i almost can't fathom it.

but i guess it's a trade off. living day to day is so easy in nz, but it's BORING - there just isn't the same kind of arts/literature scene available as there is in parts of the US.

Rubyredd, Friday, 4 January 2008 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

Make sure you move to a non-boring place and you'll enjoy those aspects of the US anyway.

And yeah, the It's Different In Every State thing is really confusing. Yesterday I had to explain some of how Minnesota does it to another Minnesotan. It's really only the hyper-interested who participate in caucuses and primaries.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 19:32 (eighteen years ago)

In Texas the winner of the caucus is anyone who can beat the Bush daughters in a beer bong race.

John Justen, Friday, 4 January 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

i'm off to oakland, CA. every time i tell an american this, the first reaction i get is 'oh GOD, oakland is AWFUL'. i met this old guy from south carolina a couple of weeks ago, he was here on holiday with his wife (she's a professor giving lectures here in nz on race relations) and told me to BUY A GUN as soon as i move there - 'it's a really dangerous place, and it's a very BLACK city'. is there some statistic that says if you own a gun you're way more likely to be injured or die from a gunshot wound?

Rubyredd, Friday, 4 January 2008 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

Well, have a good trip. That guy sounds like an idiot (wow, his wife gives lectures on race relations and he's that blatantly racist... just WOW). I think Alice Waters was quoted as saying that Oakland is not so great because "there's no there there," but I could be mistaken. At any rate, even if you don't like Oakland, you should be able to take the BART into San Francisco, which is a fantastic city.

If you get a change, go to the Mission District in SF and eat crepes at Ti Couz. You can get ones that are a meal, but the dessert crepes are to DIE for. SO YUM.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

Dammit, if you get a CHANCE, go to the Mission... etc.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

In Oklahoma, canidates are chosen by their ability to throw live snakes through a hoop 20 feet away.

John Justen, Friday, 4 January 2008 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

John's from the south, Rubyredd. He has won elections in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and I think one in southern Florida once, but Jeb Bush invalidated that last one somehow.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

It was Gertrude Stein who said of Oakland that "there's no there there." I don't know what I was thinking!

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

GODDAMNIT SARA YOU BASTARD OMG WTF!!!

John Justen, Friday, 4 January 2008 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

John really hates crepes.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

I have no fucking idea what the previous exchange is about but I approve of it regardless.

HI DERE, Friday, 4 January 2008 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

Dan is so easy to please.

Sara R-C, Friday, 4 January 2008 22:40 (eighteen years ago)

i was thinking that sounded like a stein quote!

Rubyredd, Friday, 4 January 2008 23:34 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know how I managed to confuse a Stein quote with an Alice Waters quote. Come to think of it, I can't imagine why I'd even think I KNEW an Alice Waters quote in the first place.

I THINK I'M SUFFERING SEVERE MINNESOTA BRANE FREEZE

Sara R-C, Saturday, 5 January 2008 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

Who the hell is Alice Waters? Unless you mean the Chef? Which would make no sense at all.

John Justen, Saturday, 5 January 2008 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, the chef. Which, YES, makes no sense, which was kind of my point about the brain freeze.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 5 January 2008 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

I want to go to San Francisco and get very fat and die in an earthquake.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 5 January 2008 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, that is only a third true, but I am bored so anything sounds better than sitting here freezing.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 5 January 2008 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

Finally warm due to exciting evening of weight lifting and laundry.

Of course as soon as I finish these tasks I will go back to being an ice cube. ;_;

Sara R-C, Saturday, 5 January 2008 03:20 (eighteen years ago)

Approximately 13 hours ago, Sara went insane.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Saturday, 5 January 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

It was probably more like 13 years, but it's nice that you noticed.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 5 January 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

WHY AM I SO WOOZY???

is it because I didn't drink last night????

jessie monster, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

John Justen, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

NEVER MAKE THIS MISTAKE AGAIN

John Justen, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

second order of business: why the fuck did I buy real cheese instead of easy cheese from the convenience store? I am not up to this right now.

jessie monster, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

hey I drank every night last semester and got straight A's so clearly alcohol is magic. xp.

jessie monster, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

jessie, it's good to get perspective now and again: "this is how i feel when i don't drink. and that's why i drink."

there are people hollering in the street. why?

lxy, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

'cause there's something out there to get hollerin' about!

jessie monster, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

January 5th is National Hollerin' Day (Observed)

John Justen, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

are y'all hollerin'?

lxy, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

Are you questioning my patriotism?

John Justen, Saturday, 5 January 2008 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

oh heavens no. seeking advice. i was going to go on to ask WHAT are y'all hollerin'? cuz i am unfamiliar with the ritual, you see, and i want to do it right.

lxy, Saturday, 5 January 2008 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

I generally holler the names of things I see.
