Wait, what is this layer of tissue paper method? Is this where I pad out to a square shape? Footballs make crap presents.

hyggeligt, Friday, 6 June 2008 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

yo Sara! final (and best?) episode of the Slug of Time is available!

http://freakytrigger.co.uk/slugoftime

It's the one called "Build Up Logically"

Tracer Hand, Friday, 6 June 2008 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

I've nailed this down to the point where I don't even need tape (wrapping paper is expensive and annoying and less recyclable). Alternate your tissue layers colour/white/colour/white or something else that matches well. Roll object up in it, twist ends as if this was yr childhood perception of wrapped hard candy. Secure with the kind of ribbon that can be tension-curled using the blade of a scissors.

I am always corralled into wrapping shitloads of Xmas presents for my mother and this is how I do them in 20 minutes.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

I am REALLY doomed; no scotch tape and no tissue paper or ribbons, either. I am very sad now. But at some point I am going to give that method a try, suzy; thx for the suggestion.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

Why are people wrapping presents? Am I doing that thing where I only talk to a few close friends who are equally flaky and miss some major holiday again?

en i see kay, Friday, 6 June 2008 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Not a major holiday, just my husband's birthday. I don't think he's expecting you to remember, Nick.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

Interestingly, A.'s father's birthday is June 4; A.'s is June 6, and our son 4l3x was born on June 8 (6 weeks early, but apparently he wanted to follow the pattern).

It's like crazy birthday-o-rama at my house right now.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

Oh good.

We've got that cluster thing going in my family around Thanksgiving. Uncle's on the 23rd, brother's on the 24th, Mom's on the 27th, and then my cousin's on Dec. 3rd. Thanksgiving at Grandma's is like the Christmas rehearsal.

en i see kay, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

You must be exhausted by January!

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Tracer, I have marked that page so that I can check it out a.s.a.p. (I was afraid that if I didn't bookmark it, it would disappear into the middle of the thread, never to be found again...)

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

Everyone in my immediate family was born on the 19th of a month, except for my mom (18th).

My friends all seem to be aquarius/gemini/libra.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

...with a smattering of sagittarius.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmmmmm. The 19th is lucky for your family then!?

Am I remembering right that you are born on the cusp of Aquarius/Pisces suzy? (Me: Aquarius who is basically unable to keep track of any other sign other than Pisces for some reason.)

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

my mother and her brother have the same birthday, several years apart, which also happened to be their grandfather's birthday and their parents' wedding anniversary.

tehresa, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

I'm Aquarius. I swear that the #1 reason I did not take to MySpace was because they identified me as a fucking Pisces (no 'fence to the fishies).

BTW 19th births my mom 'counts' currently include Genius Dog.

The weirdest one I've got is my aunt, who died on her birthday (I just checked the numerology on that for extra-creepola none phew) but I have a friend from a Croatian Roma family who overdoes the mumbo-jumbo and this *terrified* her.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

lolz at your Mom counting that dog's birthday! That's awesome.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

I swear that the #1 reason I did not take to MySpace was because they identified me as a fucking Pisces (no 'fence to the fishies).

Yeah, you.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh Ned, just because you don't want to be a Pisces doesn't mean that we don't all worship people who are.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

Friday night cleaning: still boring.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

Upt0eleven, Saturday, 7 June 2008 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

Sometimes we sleep. Now that THE PRIMARIES are over my sleep schedule already seems almost...normal.

suzy, Saturday, 7 June 2008 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

I will miss the primaries thread. i never contributed but i have plagiarised it irl, the result being that i am now regarded, somewhat fraudulently, as the oracle of US politics amongst my friends. living there for a year helped too i spose.

Upt0eleven, Saturday, 7 June 2008 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

I admit it: I went to sleep, too. HORRORS

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I was totally amused by the primaries thread on multiple occasions. I enjoyed picturing suzy's late night phone conversations with her mom in particular.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

my parole officer says im not allowed to talk about the primaries threads anymore

BLACK BEYONCE, Saturday, 7 June 2008 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Well if you follow his orders, it's pretty much just going to be discussion of the weather, though.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

we should have a big adventure! src, you should come here when ruby does.

lxy, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

i had a gross dream last night, my day is all weird and full of guilt

remy bean, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

aw remy. i think it will get better soon. i really do.

lxy, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

sex or violence remy?

deeznuts, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

"gross dream" does leave a lot to the imagination... which might be for the best!

xpost I WISH that I could come, lxy!!!! Cuz, I'm totally up for adventures, plus WEST COAST IS TEH AWESOMENESS

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

My mom waited for the HRC victory/concession speeches so she could mock hillaryclinton DOT COM. That is all. Sara you guys came about THIS close to meeting her at Bunny's. She lives there...

suzy, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

it was actually a church dream: i dreamed i was confessing a bunch of (really horrible) stuff (i haven't done in real life, including rape and murder), to somebody i believed was a priest. through the confession box. turns out, when the confession box was opened, that i was confessing all my sins live on national television to a studio audience who roared with laughter.

remy bean, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

so youre essentially now feeling guilty about having a dream about feeling guilty about things you hadnt done because you were feeling guilty about things you have done

intriguing....

btw objectively speakign that is an awesome dream. mine are never that imaginative

deeznuts, Saturday, 7 June 2008 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

That is clearly begging to be made into some kind of script, remy. Get on it! (Although apologies for my enthusiastic insensitivity to what probably was not a very pleasant dream to have...)

xpost She LIVES there?! So sad we missed her. (also lolz at "hillaryclinton DOT COM - god I'm inappropriate this morning)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

Hullo hullo. I saw me the Mountain Goats last night, I did.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 7 June 2008 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

I always feel weird about praising J0hn on ilx, but fucking spectacular innit?

en i see kay, Saturday, 7 June 2008 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

Indeed! Wait, were you there?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 7 June 2008 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

No no, I saw them a while back in Missouri.

en i see kay, Saturday, 7 June 2008 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

my internet broked last night so i contributed nothing to the itr.

tehresa, Saturday, 7 June 2008 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa - so glad it's working again!

xpost I have to investigate the Mountain Goats further. I did buy "Dilaudid" after taking care of a patient who was taking it. LOVE IT

Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 June 2008 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

I want to help my friend's record label put J0hn on in Brighton when he comes over for festivals in the Autumn. Must see what I can do about that.
