I blame myself, as I've been trying to clean my house today.

The sad part is that my housecleaning efforts don't seem to be producing much in the way of results.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, maybe I should blame John instead.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

Bah, housecleaning. It's just going to get dirty again, you know! Best to just wait until you move out and trash everything in one fell swoop. Fire is also advisable.

Of course, I suppose I'd be more about housecleaning if ANYONE EVER CAME TO MY APARTMENT OH I'M SO ALONE etc.

No seriously, folks, good housekeeping is a noble pursuit and good fire prevention, to boot.

en i see kay, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

Well, mostly it is that my in-laws are coming this weekend, and I don't want to alarm them with the vast mess that has sprung up since spring break. The kitchen floor MUST be mopped, for example...

Nick, you don't want people coming to your apartment. Trust me! It's too stressful. Just go to their places instead.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

the hordes of junebugs have arrived and i hate their fat flappy bodies against my sliding glass door ugh ugh

John Justen, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

Those things scare the heck out of me. I know they are harmless, but they are CREEPY and gross.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

I don't even like that noise they make. UGH is right.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

sara i'm technologically incapable of loading this entire thread but how did your end-of-term sh*t go?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 5 June 2008 23:22 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, thanks for asking! It turned out okay. I got an A on my final, and the clinical was great. Then I wrote the huge post-clinical paper (i.e. "care plan"), turned it in and am awaiting that grade. Annnnnd now I'm trying to recover from all that and figure out money and registration stuff for next semester.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

Mostly I have just been wanting to sleep for the past few days, but now I'm waking up and realizing, OH, MUSIC AND FICTION BOOKS AND MOVIES AND FUN ARE OUT HERE!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 5 June 2008 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

SARA SHOULD COME AND SEE MY HOUSE WHICH I DONE BOUGHT ONE OF THESE DAYS

John Justen, Friday, 6 June 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

I *PROMISE* that I am going to come see it soon. REALLY!

This weekend I have to proctor exams and the in-laws will be here. Next weekend is bad, too. After that, I SWEAR I will come up and see it. REALLY

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

I really really REALLY want to see the house, and also now I'm feeling super guilty for not making time to do so yet.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

sorry i missed u jj

--guy you don't know

mookieproof, Friday, 6 June 2008 01:21 (eighteen years ago)

wait are you in NYC, or were you in MPLS/STPL?

i missed a lot of people in NYC because i was much more booked than i thought, and i am the worst planner of all things ever. i didn't even mention that i was meandering around philly for 2 days. also, i fucked up getting out there in time to see TOMBOT and HI DERE.

so pretty much i suck?

John Justen, Friday, 6 June 2008 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, so what John needs is to somehow find a calendar that integrates things he loves, such as booze or music. A combination PDA/hip flask, perhaps?

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 01:45 (eighteen years ago)

i am in nyc but reclusive. i should have bugged tehresa for info. anyway you got here so you are probably better at plans than me?

ps do you guys know jeff taffe?

mookieproof, Friday, 6 June 2008 01:57 (eighteen years ago)

i am in nyc but reclusive.

Not when you're coming out for this you're not. (Assuming the link works, been kinda flaky these last couple of days.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 June 2008 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, who wants to wrap A's birthday gifts for me?

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 05:19 (eighteen years ago)

i'll do it!

mookieproof, Friday, 6 June 2008 05:32 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, it's a deal! They're all regular shapes, so it probably won't even be hard for someone with any ability at all.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 05:44 (eighteen years ago)

So my virtuous plan to wrap these presents tonight has been stymied by the fact that I cannot, for the life of me, find any scotch tape. ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 06:13 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, giving up, going to sleep now...

Good night all!

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 06:24 (eighteen years ago)

Every present I wrap ends up looking like a football. I am teh suck :(

hyggeligt, Friday, 6 June 2008 07:58 (eighteen years ago)

Stop giving people footballs as presents, or learn to use the layers of tissue paper method ;-D.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

OR give nothing BUT footballs as presents and you will be wrapping every item poifectly.

Upt0eleven, Friday, 6 June 2008 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, what is this layer of tissue paper method? Is this where I pad out to a square shape? Footballs make crap presents.

hyggeligt, Friday, 6 June 2008 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

yo Sara! final (and best?) episode of the Slug of Time is available!

http://freakytrigger.co.uk/slugoftime

It's the one called "Build Up Logically"

Tracer Hand, Friday, 6 June 2008 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

I've nailed this down to the point where I don't even need tape (wrapping paper is expensive and annoying and less recyclable). Alternate your tissue layers colour/white/colour/white or something else that matches well. Roll object up in it, twist ends as if this was yr childhood perception of wrapped hard candy. Secure with the kind of ribbon that can be tension-curled using the blade of a scissors.

I am always corralled into wrapping shitloads of Xmas presents for my mother and this is how I do them in 20 minutes.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

I am REALLY doomed; no scotch tape and no tissue paper or ribbons, either. I am very sad now. But at some point I am going to give that method a try, suzy; thx for the suggestion.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

Why are people wrapping presents? Am I doing that thing where I only talk to a few close friends who are equally flaky and miss some major holiday again?

en i see kay, Friday, 6 June 2008 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Not a major holiday, just my husband's birthday. I don't think he's expecting you to remember, Nick.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

Interestingly, A.'s father's birthday is June 4; A.'s is June 6, and our son 4l3x was born on June 8 (6 weeks early, but apparently he wanted to follow the pattern).

It's like crazy birthday-o-rama at my house right now.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

Oh good.

We've got that cluster thing going in my family around Thanksgiving. Uncle's on the 23rd, brother's on the 24th, Mom's on the 27th, and then my cousin's on Dec. 3rd. Thanksgiving at Grandma's is like the Christmas rehearsal.

en i see kay, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

You must be exhausted by January!

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Tracer, I have marked that page so that I can check it out a.s.a.p. (I was afraid that if I didn't bookmark it, it would disappear into the middle of the thread, never to be found again...)

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

Everyone in my immediate family was born on the 19th of a month, except for my mom (18th).

My friends all seem to be aquarius/gemini/libra.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

...with a smattering of sagittarius.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmmmmm. The 19th is lucky for your family then!?

Am I remembering right that you are born on the cusp of Aquarius/Pisces suzy? (Me: Aquarius who is basically unable to keep track of any other sign other than Pisces for some reason.)

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

my mother and her brother have the same birthday, several years apart, which also happened to be their grandfather's birthday and their parents' wedding anniversary.

tehresa, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

I'm Aquarius. I swear that the #1 reason I did not take to MySpace was because they identified me as a fucking Pisces (no 'fence to the fishies).

BTW 19th births my mom 'counts' currently include Genius Dog.

The weirdest one I've got is my aunt, who died on her birthday (I just checked the numerology on that for extra-creepola none phew) but I have a friend from a Croatian Roma family who overdoes the mumbo-jumbo and this *terrified* her.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

lolz at your Mom counting that dog's birthday! That's awesome.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

I swear that the #1 reason I did not take to MySpace was because they identified me as a fucking Pisces (no 'fence to the fishies).

Yeah, you.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh Ned, just because you don't want to be a Pisces doesn't mean that we don't all worship people who are.

Sara R-C, Friday, 6 June 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

Friday night cleaning: still boring.
