So, in the namedropping stakes, it's not really worth it to boast a connection to Har Mar Superstar, right?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

boast it Dan, boast it!

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

His brother-in-law was one of the leads in the production of "The Rise & Fall of the City of Mahagonny" I did last year and I spent a good amount of time hanging out with him and his wife (Har Mar's sister) during the afterparty, which is where I found out that she and Har Mar grew up in MN a little over an hour away from where I lived. The brother-in-law actually was the person who brought up the connection, which I thought was rad because I think I was probably the only person in the cast who would recognize the name.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

hanging out with him and his wife (Har Mar's sister)

For two seconds I thought you meant Har Mar was married to his own sister and my world was uncongealing.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Har Mar is his own sister? WTFWTFWTF?

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

ooooooooooooh. i get it now.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, your world is...congealed?

Haha everyone from MN is 2 degrees of separation from Har Mar.

suzy, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

Reality is not so much grounded as mushed together. Like multicolored Play-Doh.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

It is probably also deeply weird that I'm now sitting here talking to myself on the ITR board, but somehow it seems completely appropriate right now.

lol i did that all semester!

tehresa, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

ATTN MS TEHRESA -- please respond to my Facebook message re: end of the month parties. kthxbye.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

ok come on ppl, clearly "he" and "him" referred to the brother-in-law, Har Mar didn't even come up until the parenthetical aside

ps bro-in-law was in a PBS Great Performances broadcast of Glimmerglass Opera that was nominated for an Emmy

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

My friend Jim once convinced Har Mar to take pictures in the Turf Club photobooth with FB in order to keep us busy while he failed to pick up some lady at the bar. These pictures still exist, and show a full steam ahead drunken FB bouncing off the walls around a visibly terrified and uncomfortable Har Mar. awesome.

Dan, you know that HMS is also Sean Na Na, and that he played in Calvin Krime, right?

John Justen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Is this the Jim I know that went to college with you?

I knew about Sean Na Na but not Calvin Krime. His sister and bro-in-law are pretty awesome folks (and bro-in-law is a FANTASTIC singer).

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

yes, thats the one. he (like everyone else i know in the world) is a lawyerererer now.

John Justen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Reading this thread sometimes makes me feel like I'm from another planet. ("Har Mar" is more than just a mall?!)

xpost John, what am I going to have to do to get to see these photos? You should really just post them for the enlightenment of all.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

Har Mar Superstar named himself after the mall!

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

Also I am not a lawyer, I just work with them.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not a lawyer, either, come to think of it. But it does seem like I know a slew of them.

The one with the coolest job is a laywer AND a librarian, and he works at William Mitchell.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

So, in the namedropping stakes, it's not really worth it to boast a connection to Har Mar Superstar, right?

I was talking to him once at a show in London and mentioned that my old roommate was from MN and it turned out that he knew both her and another former friend of mine really well. Weird.

Also, hi everyone!

ENBB, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

i used to love a sean na na song, the princess and the pony. it's really a great song people

jergins, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

THIS IS TRUE, AND EVERYONE SHOULD HEAR IT

John Justen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

despite their feelings about the rest of his steez

John Justen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

that is the one with the "shake your ass around my casket" line, right?

John Justen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Haha Sean really does know everyone in MN; I had the remix of that conversation with him in about three different clubs.

suzy, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

Either that or maybe everyone in MN just knows each other!

ENBB, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ My deepest suspicion.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

ya JJ that's the one and i'm so glad someone's here to back me up on its greatness. despite their feelings about the rest of his steez is a key point

jergins, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.scheduletwo.com/video/sean_na_na/princess_and_the_pony

John Justen, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm, I liked that. So you're saying the rest of his stuff sucks, though, then?

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

BTW MY PORTISHEAD CD HAS JUST BEEN OPENED AND WILL SOON BE LISTENED TO. IT CAME ON SATURDAY, BUT I JUST FINALLY FOUND TIME TO OPEN IT!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

So, you're on "Nylon Smile" by now, right?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yep, just passed it... now up to "The Rip" So far I like this c.d., but I think it's going to take a while for *anything* to sink in after the past few weeks.

BUT I have heard "Machine Gun" on The Current several times and like it better every time.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, actually NOW listening to "Nylon Smile," as apparently I am still too out of it to realize that I had my iTunes set to "shuffle."

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha oops, I did that with Pulp's "This Is Hardcore".

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I am basically in a post-nursing school hazing coma, WHAT WAS YOUR EXCUSE

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

It was 1997.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

(btw, as a direct result of that I can't listen to that album anymore because the shuffled track order was so so so so much better than the actual track order)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

The answer "it was 1997" makes total sense to me, but only because I got pregnant that year and was so tired that I used to lie down in the side closet in my office at work. (hahaha, and I thought I was hiding the whole pregnancy thing).

Also laughing at you not being able to listen to the album anymore... clearly you just need to recreate the shuffle on a playlist. Modern technology is crazy helpful. It means I can just delete the songs I hate from albums I love...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

Also, how bad is it that I got the Portishead album for myself instead of giving it to A. for his birthday? I mean, it's not like he won't be able to *share* it... and I did get him some other stuff... okay, I just didn't want to have to wait until Friday to hear it. I CONFESS

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

It's not bad. BE SELFISH.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

I can't remember the exact track order otherwise I would!

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

unnecessary lyrics pages

HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

You know, I believe now that I could easily become a songwriter.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, I'm going to lift weights now. Booooor-ing.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 01:24 (eighteen years ago)

i just did that, and it was boring

remy bean, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

also my arms hurt from superman pushups

remy bean, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

superman that pushup

HI DERE, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

It was boring. What the heck is a superman pushup? (not that it matters; I'm sure I can't do it)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 02:23 (eighteen years ago)

Also, watching Obama speak made it somewhat less boring, but he came out and I went OMG WHY DIDN'T I DRIVE TO ST. PAUL FOR THIS

(answer: pathetic exhaustion)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 02:23 (eighteen years ago)

i am so lame i fell asleep mid law and order which sucks because i didn't get to see any of it this season and they don't stream it online. man. now i am going to try to watch the da vinci code which, remarkably, i have never seen! i will probably fall asleep again 2 min in.
