So I just listened to one of my best friend's new self-produced album. It's a little silly in parts but mostly really fucking good. It's strange being really close to someone so genuinely and demonstrably talented.

i used to get so jealous that i had a few crazily talented friends while i was generally completely uncreative and hopeless, but now in my old age i feel so proud of what they do, and so lucky that they're willing to share it with me first.

Rubyredd, Saturday, 31 May 2008 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

and N.I.C.K., how are doing since the whole break-up thing? everything okay?

Rubyredd, Saturday, 31 May 2008 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I'm fine. I've kind of got other things going on in that regard, actually. It seems my big-time-longest-relationship-never-really-got-over-it ex has some sort of insane internal radar and called me like, 24 hours afterwards. Total "this will probably be really bad for me, but there's a small chance I'll be immensely happy and my dreams will come true" stuff.

Best not to inquire on my lovelife, really. Far too lol college for public consumption.

en i see kay, Saturday, 31 May 2008 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

e-mails from your GF that make you feel kind of awesome even though they have nothing to do with you or your relationship:

Just got a pretty urgent call from our field office re: triple homicide. Need to deal with this but should still be fine for 12:30pm or so....

El Tomboto, Saturday, 31 May 2008 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

Also the official White House calligrapher is named Richard Muffler.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 31 May 2008 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 31 May 2008 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Especially if they commit homicides.

HI DERE all.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 31 May 2008 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

So I'm seeing the Cure tonight and I am content. (Among other reasons.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 31 May 2008 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, I am so jealous!

I had a good day at the hospital today, so my exhaustion may have been worth it after all.

(But still VERY VERY ENVIOUS OF NED)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 31 May 2008 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

Also the official White House calligrapher is named Richard Muffler.

How do I get this job? Is it an elected position?

Abbott, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

Step One: Read Professional Calligraphy for Dummies

Sara R-C, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

Step two: Read Ass-kissery for Political Sycophants

remy bean, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

Step three: It's just you and me

HI DERE, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

does step four have something to do with getting down on the floor?

jergins, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

i certainly hope so.

estela, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

lxy, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

and how you use them? urban dictionary, to the rescue as always:

1. nib jousting 15 up, 2 down

the exciting and pleasurable art of two men jousting with their erect penis's. the loser of this raging battle is then obliged to bend over while the winner runs from distance and jousts up the losers anus.
the naughty knights loved nib jousting before bed with warm breast milk and cookies.

jergins, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

wait, so the penises have warm breast milk and cookies, and that is what is used in nib jousting???????

URBANDICTIONARY.COM, YOU DO NOTHING BUT CONFUSE AND BAFFLE

HI DERE, Saturday, 31 May 2008 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

I want to know what Ned made of The Cure and 65DOS! Although we probably won't find out for another few hours.

Just got offed, Saturday, 31 May 2008 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

omar little, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

xpost

omar little, Sunday, 1 June 2008 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

Arrived too late for 65dos. Cure = fantastic three hour show, everyone in excellent form, still one of the greatest bands ever.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

Mon Dieu! Six hours! Truly a title of magical proportions.

So, I was walking down the street to my favorite local thea-tre, and a woman stopped me to ask if I would model for her Anne Rice-inspired photographs.

Hey, fifty bucks for an hour or two pretending to be a vampire is fifty bucks, right?!?!

en i see kay, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

oh dear.

xpost, then.

en i see kay, Sunday, 1 June 2008 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

Are we talking Anne Rice or ANNE ROQUALAIRE?!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 1 June 2008 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

Dear lord, I loathe morning. And insomnia. And knowing I'm coming home tonight to be faced with writing 30 pages before Tuesday. (Nursing school shouldn't be quiiiiiiite so much like NaNoWriMo for grades...)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 1 June 2008 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

xposts to Ned: As I'd hope!

Just got offed, Sunday, 1 June 2008 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

BTW, Dan, I know you got "Freakshow" (we did too, rah) but if you didn't get "Baby Rag Dog Book" at your show, you were WAY missing out.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 1 June 2008 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

We got "Sleep When I'm Dead", "The Only One" and "Freakshow".

HI DERE, Sunday, 1 June 2008 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

remy bean, Sunday, 1 June 2008 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

lol. i think it is awesome.
also, pls to listen to jergins re: that poll.

tehresa, Sunday, 1 June 2008 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

Yay awesome.

We got "Sleep When I'm Dead", "The Only One" and "Freakshow".

Okay, seriously on "Baby Rag Dog Book," that's the one that will make your jaw drop. How can I put it -- it is to them what "Machine Gun" is to Portishead (not so much in terms of reinvention as in terms of loud aggro rigorous FUCK YOU). We also got "Underneath the Stars" as an opener (very nice) and "The Perfect Boy," plus the three you list.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 1 June 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

thanks tehresa.

also, AWESOME POSTCARD THANKS. you went to Sonar, yeah? o how i wish i could of gone herc+love affair and villalobos and dozens more. man.

jergïns, Sunday, 1 June 2008 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

Sonar's in three weeks time - this was Primavera Sound. Such a great weekend; as late as each night went I could quite happily have kept going for another couple of nights. Musically, far and away the best and most interesting line-up I've ever experienced at a festival with some stunning rock, pop, indie and electro and dance performances. My ears may still be bleeding a little bit from Fuck Buttons.

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 1 June 2008 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

I shall now go and attempt to transform myself from someone who looks and smells like he has spent the last four nights "having it" til dawn and then sleeping for a few hours at a time on the beach (forgot my tent - oops), into one who may perhaps make it to work tomorrow.

HErcules and Love Affair are wicked awesome live btw - playeed their first UK dates t'other week.

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 1 June 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

can't wait to see them

WHOA @ that lineup

jergins, Sunday, 1 June 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 1 June 2008 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

wilter, Sunday, 1 June 2008 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, so, I have taken a nap and I'm still having trouble understanding this thread. Exhaustion is not very funny.

BUT one huge paper and I'm done for the summer.*

Sara R-C, Monday, 2 June 2008 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

*not including meetings with profs, whatever else I might not know about

Sara R-C, Monday, 2 June 2008 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

(yes, I am also still so out of it that it took me 6 minutes to remember my asterisk. This paper is going to be hilarious.)
