omg just got a SECOND freak out phone call from same person. i am going to stop answering my phone because now i've wasted 30 minutes.

ruby which job is today's?

hookups = awesome! esp in our current job market! yay!

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

i'm at the dumb shoestore right now, then i go to the restaurant afterwards, which will be busy cuz it's mothers' day.

btw HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, SARA!!

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

where do you guys recommend for good quality semi-affordable jeans?

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

I have been reading a zillion pages of nursing textbooks, and I'm nowhere near the halfway mark.

RR - thanks so much for Mother's Day wishes! Um, I better call my Mom tomorrow and pass it on to her, huh.

re: jeans - I have a terrible time buying them because they usually don't fit (I am pretty short, but my legs are longer - so petites are too short, but regulars are too long; my waist is disproportionate to my legs and hips also... APPARENTLY). The last pairs of jeans I have purchased have been at Macy's; a cheap-ish brand called Style & Co. BUT THEY FIT ME! And they wear well. And they are maybe $30 a pair.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 03:14 (eighteen years ago)

i like uniqlo. also, laurel recommends levis!
honestly i haven't been jeans shopping in AGES and need to do this soon. but not yet...

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 03:17 (eighteen years ago)

wow awesome! yeah i haven't bought jeans in ages cuz i have so much trouble finding ones that fit - short legs, big thighs, huge hips, narrow waist (i got 40" hips to try and balance with a 28" waist, it's a goddamn pain), and i hate when lowrider jeans stretch out too much and then i spend all day long pulling them up so i don't flash my underwear to the entire world.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 03:17 (eighteen years ago)

I have never owned a pair of Levis in my entire life, but I have always wanted to. SOMEDAY

Women's sizes, especially for pants, make zero sense and are impossible to work with.

I would love to have a small waist! ;_;

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

a small waist is one thing, but not when it's always competing with relatively huge hips. i like your US sizing: in nz i'm a 12 but in the US i'm a 6!! makes me feel TINY!

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 03:33 (eighteen years ago)

See, I'm the reverse; the only reason I have hips at all is that I had teh babies.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, my study break is over; time to go read a pharmacology chapter about diuretics. ;_;

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

i have been re-doing all this spreadsheets bc i can't go any further with the 'narrative' portion of the project til i do. god, i hate excel.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 04:43 (eighteen years ago)

I made pudding but it's a little too sugary.

I made caramel the other night but I forgot to add a dash of salt and it just wasn't right.

I am a failure at what is essentially applying heat to sugar.

en i see kay, Sunday, 11 May 2008 05:33 (eighteen years ago)

how is it 2 and i am still doing spreadsheets ;_;

they don't even tell you anything good.

mm pudding. i am trying to remember to drink water to counter all the caffeine.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:00 (eighteen years ago)

DIURETICS

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:03 (eighteen years ago)

I just looked at the clock and was like, wtf, why am I still reading these textbooks?!

A. came in and remarked that he had been replaced by "a three ring binder, a pile of paper, and 40 pounds of textbooks." (I guess I should not spread everything out on the bed to study anymore).

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:04 (eighteen years ago)

i will gladly trade you reading for spreadsheets. gladly.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:19 (eighteen years ago)

I am imagining the chaos if we switched places on Monday. I could turn your project in, of course, but only if you had done it.

You could take my test on Monday night, but I have no idea what you'd get for a score. Two days is probably not enough time to read about all of this stuff. I feel like I can't even absorb it in two and a half weeks...

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe you'd be brilliant at it, though!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

i think i am going to have a full breakdown soon. the way this guy wants us to set everything up and the fact that my organization has such low subscription rates means that there is absolutely NO way that numbers can match up properly when based on made up percentages because the percentages have to be so tiny and the computer starts to round things. i hate him so much.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:37 (eighteen years ago)

Will you be finished with him forever as soon as you hand this project in? Because just imagining how awesome that is going to feel could be good motivation.

Well, that and maybe a short 8 hour nap...

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

i will be finished with him after the oral presentation portion a week from tuesday.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

wow, 8 whole hours sounds so incredible

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 06:47 (eighteen years ago)

A week from Tuesday!!!! How awesome is THAT going to be?!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 07:01 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to go get that 8 hours of sleep and you should try to do the same, tehresa. I'm hoping that my brain will be a bit refreshed tomorrow for it. Can't hurt; might help!

So good night tehresa and all ITRers everywhere. Get some sleep, will ya?

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 07:03 (eighteen years ago)

you're very sweet. i think i have had it for the moment so i am going to sleep. maybe... 5 hours? eek!

i am not even waiting for the oral part to celebrate - we have an awards dinner tuesday night (project due at 5) and i have a feeling we're all gonna get a little crazy even though finals aren't til next week.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

poor tehresa and sara ;_; every day i feel gladder and gladder that i decided no post grad studies for me. but i feel so bad for you ladies!

hey i just read the nasty alex in nyc thread on 77 and its related threads on ask chaki, and that shit is just MEAN.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

unnecessary bump

estela, Sunday, 11 May 2008 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd you're on 77 right??

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 11 May 2008 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Curtis maybe have a word with your members about the ethics of posting private board content on a public board.

Mark C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

rubyredd def needs an invite

mark c i think its generally acknowledged that that private board content shouldve been on a public board in the first place so everyone is cool w it tho i cant speak for crut

deeznuts, Sunday, 11 May 2008 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

People just need to stop taking ILX so damn seriously

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 11 May 2008 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

if that thread was gonna get started it should not have been on crutis' board because that is a place of love and happy times (or it was supposed to be). i haven't read it so i don't know what the issue is but from the title it sounds like jon trying to be 'funny' so i can see hwy people are up in arms.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

RR, don't feel bad for me - I just wish I had gone back to school before I had kids. Although god knows I'll probably just do it again someday, so what am I even talking about...

I haven't been following the private board/77/whatever else threads/debate - timewise, I can't. But I feel like it might make my stomach hurt, so it's probably good that I have to spend my time with school stuff.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

5am CANNOT SLEEP

crut1s and deez i have invite and have posted there, i didn't read the alex thread cuz it had a dumb sounding title but then i accidentally came across the c/p bits of it on some other thread so i went over and read it... it's just not cool when ppl start bringing ppl's families and personal lives into shit, esp when its someone who does not deserve it in the least, and then everyone piles on and its just... awful. alex must have felt so completely shit when he came across it.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

(on a lighter note)

livebloggin: i need to pee real bad but its so fucking cold i just can't get out of bed. lucky i have an almighty bladder.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

ANNOUNCEMENT:

I have perfected the art of the vegetarian breakfast burrito. Secrets include: cooking your own beans, using cream when you make the scrambled eggs, Achewood hot sauce.

THAT IS ALL.

en i see kay, Sunday, 11 May 2008 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

What do we have to do for you to get you to post the recipe?

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

Also, RR, I hope you got out of bed to pee; you can always warm back up again!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

These are all just mild variations of recipes found in How To Cook Everything Vegetarian

Black beans:

Put a pound of black beans in a large saucepan, cover with 2-3 inches of water. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes, let sit for two hours, covered. Add healthy pinches of salt and pepper, simmer for 15-30 minutes partially covered, put however much you plan to use in three days, freeze the rest.

Refried beans:

Fry onions in oil over medium heat for about 10 minutes, add beans and mash with a fork. After they're mashed, add a different herb, and simmer until they have the consistency of proper refried beans, then reduce heat to very low.

Eggs:

Start with a cold pan, put in three eggs, a splash of cream, salt, pepper, cilantro if you're not one of those for whom it tastes like soap, another savory herb if you are. Put over medium heat, stirring constantly with a heat-resistant spatula. When parts dry out, remove from heat for a bit while stirring. Put it back on the heat, repeat until it's as done as you want it.

Burritos:

Heat tortillas in a dry pan on very low heat, add beans, eggs, and a melty white cheese. Roll, coat very lightly with butter, and cook in a pan over medium low heat until browned on both sides.

Add hot sauce and eat happily.

en i see kay, Sunday, 11 May 2008 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

Different herb from the eggs, I mean.

en i see kay, Sunday, 11 May 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

Tastes bitchin' with a proper cup of tea with cream and sugar.

en i see kay, Sunday, 11 May 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

OMG en how does the Achewood hot sauce compare to my regular standby Tapatio?

Abbott, Sunday, 11 May 2008 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

It's a little hotter and a little more garlicky, I think. It's been awhile since I've had Tapatio, though.

Regardless of any actual difference, I swear Ray telling me to "...definitely eat some!" makes it tastier.

en i see kay, Sunday, 11 May 2008 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

oooh, thanks for sharing that!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

um yeah so a mutual friend just twittered that jon apparently broke his wrist riding his bike over the wburg bridge?! eeeeek poor dude :(

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

ouch; that isn't the most fun. :(

Sara R-C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

How do you crash crossing a bridge? Wonder if it was at one or other end? Poor Jon.

Mark C, Sunday, 11 May 2008 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

hey i'll pay one of you to break my wrist so i don't have to work between now and when i leave nz

Rubyredd, Sunday, 11 May 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

um if this would get me out of my project i would be soooo into this. except, you know, i don't have health insurance so it would kinda suck.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 May 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

well joy of joys you don't need health insurance in nz so it would be ok and i'd still get paid for all the work i wasn't doing for the next 6.5 weeks
