Okay, I'm off to go eat and then take a test and then start all over with new information, even though my brain is full.

Good evenings, all!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

it got sent to my parents' place so i asked my mum to take a photo of it. i have a somewhat weird relationship with my mother, who is a little crazy to say the least, but sometimes she completely surprises me, eg. this is the email she sent with the degree photos:
What neat feeling I had when I opened up the envelope and saw your certificate. It brought tears to my eyes. I know that you graduated but it isnt reality until I saw the certificate. I am so really really proud of my girl.

i'm pretty sure that's the first time my mum has ever said she's proud of me.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 1 May 2008 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

aww. that's so nice. and you are totally deserving of certificates and kind words. and maybe a back that is not broek.

i hope sara's test is going ok :/

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

anyone who is still mad at me for not making it to your fine cities can lol at the fact that i booked my trip leaving on tuesday in order to maximize my time in the east coast vs. the time i could justify missing for work while forgetting that MONDAY IS FUCKING MEMORIAL DAY AND WE ARE CLOSED SUNDAY SO I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN SATURDAY EVENING WITH NO EFFECT AND SPENT THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY ;_; i am an idiot

John Justen, Friday, 2 May 2008 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

so so angry at myself right now

John Justen, Friday, 2 May 2008 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's time to revive rolling ;_; thread

wilter, Friday, 2 May 2008 01:21 (eighteen years ago)

RR - CONGRATULATIONS! SO AWESOME!!!! As for the mother thing - someday let's get together and have some drinks and talk about that.

John, I am buying you a calendar for Christmas. Honestly. But I'm sorry anyway. Can you re-book...?

Re: my test - I did okay. It was a tough test and I'm not sure of my final score yet, but I know I passed. A lot of people felt that they did not. Onward to the wound care test-out (Sunday afternoon, I know ur all jealous!).

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:01 (eighteen years ago)

yay sara! i totally knew you'd pass :)

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

it is good to know that sara is one educational step closer to saving my life when inevitably one of my vital organs fails

John Justen, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

also this would probably be a good time to step away from the nationalism poll thread

John Justen, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

No worries, John, I've got your back. Or your kidney or whatever.

THX RR!!!

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

ps. yes, i think we would have great chatz about our respective mothers :)

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:27 (eighteen years ago)

I really should not complain about mine right now, as she said she'd babysit for the kids on Saturday night, but somehow she always makes me feel like everything is all my fault even when she's bothering to be helpful.

Also, I am a hopelessly ungrateful daughter, a week out from Mother's Day and I know it.

(I'm kind of exhausted right now, so forgive me for being maudlin).

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

ANYWAY, yes, someday RR, you and I are going to have teh booze and teh venting about mothers!

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

i am well familiar with the matriarchal manipulation ;) but like yours, mine has been uncommonly nice of late: totally loved jordan when she met him and has not given me a hard time about the situation; has been signing her emails 'lots of love, mum' (totally weird). i think this may have been stimulated by biological father's attempt at re-entry in my life. or ma is just craaaa-zy.

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:37 (eighteen years ago)

It really freaks me out that I might wind up doing the Exact Same Thing to J and 4lex.

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

i'm pretty sure you won't, sara - it just doesn't seem in your nature. no one's perfect, and of course you'll end up with some regrets about the way you raised your kids (doesn't everyone?) but i'm sure your kids will always know you love them, and that's pretty much the most important thing.

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

I know I love everyone's kids, with a nice red wine. Whoops, there I go thinking I'm Jonathan Swift again.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

Ned = A Modest Proposal meets Hannibal Lecter.

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

Quid pro quo
Yes or no...

Anyway I'm sure you're fine on the mom front Sara so no worries. You can selflessly blame any problems with them that arise on A instead. (Wait that isn't helpful.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

Ned has caught on to my little plan all to quickly.

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:10 (eighteen years ago)

sara, good job w/ the test!

tehresa, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:19 (eighteen years ago)

also supercongrats to RR!

tehresa, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:19 (eighteen years ago)

thx tehresa!

SO EXCITED for RR! And ENVIOUS, too, right now. Seriously!

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

me too. i am worried about making it through the next three weeks, much less the next year before i get my mfa.

tehresa, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:28 (eighteen years ago)

haha you guys are doing REAL WORK - i just did a bum undergrad degree in english lit. you pretty much have to be retarded to not get a degree in the end, even if it takes more than 6 yrs of study...

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:30 (eighteen years ago)

don't sell yourself short! you worked and overcame whatever difficulties you encountered and have a fucking degree!

tehresa, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:34 (eighteen years ago)

aww thanks tza, but i just feel like i didn't get much out of it, and it took 6 yrs to do what i could have done in 2.5 yrs if i'd really tried. but such is life :/

Rubyredd, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:53 (eighteen years ago)

RR, I feel like I should have done what I'm doing right now when I was in college the FIRST time. (In fact, I am most annoyed with myself about it at moments).

No need to kick yourself for taking 6 years... sure, I have a degree already, but I am still in school and I'm 36 freaking years old! (Seriously, the combination of grey hairs and the beginnings of wrinkles along with stress-caused pimples is NOT PRETTY)

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 05:56 (eighteen years ago)

sara, 36 is nothing! my mom went back in her 40s, and my dad started law school when he turned 50.

tehresa, Friday, 2 May 2008 06:00 (eighteen years ago)

I used to think I would go back again to graduate school someday, but right now I just want to take a big nap.

haha, A. spent part of tonight giving me a pep talk about how our friend D3an must be feeling, since he started med school this year at age 38.

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 06:05 (eighteen years ago)

But thanks, tehresa; I just have to get through a few weeks and then summer vacation will bore me into wanting to be back in school again, I am sure.

Sara R-C, Friday, 2 May 2008 06:06 (eighteen years ago)

THE FACE ACCIDENTS ARE AWESOME
