it got sent to my parents' place so i asked my mum to take a photo of it. i have a somewhat weird relationship with my mother, who is a little crazy to say the least, but sometimes she completely surprises me, eg. this is the email she sent with the degree photos:
What neat feeling I had when I opened up the envelope and saw your certificate. It brought tears to my eyes. I know that you graduated but it isnt reality until I saw the certificate. I am so really really proud of my girl.

i'm pretty sure that's the first time my mum has ever said she's proud of me.

Re: my test - I did okay. It was a tough test and I'm not sure of my final score yet, but I know I passed. A lot of people felt that they did not. Onward to the wound care test-out (Sunday afternoon, I know ur all jealous!).

I really should not complain about mine right now, as she said she'd babysit for the kids on Saturday night, but somehow she always makes me feel like everything is all my fault even when she's bothering to be helpful.

Also, I am a hopelessly ungrateful daughter, a week out from Mother's Day and I know it.

(I'm kind of exhausted right now, so forgive me for being maudlin).

ANYWAY, yes, someday RR, you and I are going to have teh booze and teh venting about mothers!

i am well familiar with the matriarchal manipulation ;) but like yours, mine has been uncommonly nice of late: totally loved jordan when she met him and has not given me a hard time about the situation; has been signing her emails 'lots of love, mum' (totally weird). i think this may have been stimulated by biological father's attempt at re-entry in my life. or ma is just craaaa-zy.

It really freaks me out that I might wind up doing the Exact Same Thing to J and 4lex.

i'm pretty sure you won't, sara - it just doesn't seem in your nature. no one's perfect, and of course you'll end up with some regrets about the way you raised your kids (doesn't everyone?) but i'm sure your kids will always know you love them, and that's pretty much the most important thing.

I know I love everyone's kids, with a nice red wine. Whoops, there I go thinking I'm Jonathan Swift again.

haha you guys are doing REAL WORK - i just did a bum undergrad degree in english lit. you pretty much have to be retarded to not get a degree in the end, even if it takes more than 6 yrs of study...

don't sell yourself short! you worked and overcame whatever difficulties you encountered and have a fucking degree!

aww thanks tza, but i just feel like i didn't get much out of it, and it took 6 yrs to do what i could have done in 2.5 yrs if i'd really tried. but such is life :/

RR, I feel like I should have done what I'm doing right now when I was in college the FIRST time. (In fact, I am most annoyed with myself about it at moments).

No need to kick yourself for taking 6 years... sure, I have a degree already, but I am still in school and I'm 36 freaking years old! (Seriously, the combination of grey hairs and the beginnings of wrinkles along with stress-caused pimples is NOT PRETTY)

sara, 36 is nothing! my mom went back in her 40s, and my dad started law school when he turned 50.

I used to think I would go back again to graduate school someday, but right now I just want to take a big nap.

haha, A. spent part of tonight giving me a pep talk about how our friend D3an must be feeling, since he started med school this year at age 38.

But thanks, tehresa; I just have to get through a few weeks and then summer vacation will bore me into wanting to be back in school again, I am sure.
